You can order a copy of a person's original social security application...they are very good for research. It is $27. You can also order a person's death certificate from the State or County...those run about $15. Get them both and you are way ahead of the game.

I live in a very cold and snowy Saskatchewan, Canada.
Since I'm not very familiar with California records, I could use a little
help.
If someone on the list has experience with ordering a death record using the
SSDI vs. ordering a death record from the California Death Index, could you
please tell me which one gives the most information? Where is the best
place to order either of them from?
Is there much more information than what is found listed in the index?
If the mother's maiden name isn't listed on the index, can I expect it to be
absent from the full record as well?
Any advice, or assistance would really be appreciated.
Thank you
Kathy
