Mrs. C. C. SMITH, one of the early residents of this county, died at
Merced on Monday. In 1859 she lived at Hornitos and afterwards at
Snelling. Her husband, who died in 1900, was an extensive rancher and
sheepherder. She was 71 years of age.

The little son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank V. SMITH died last Friday morning.
The child had been sickly all his life. He was five months odd. The
community sympathizes with the bereaved parents.
