Dear Bruce and Diane,

Hi my name is LeAnn Hugeback. I'm currently researching the
CAMERON/SPEELMAN/BARFOOT or BAREFOOT family
names for my brother-in-law from Iowa. I thought you might be able to
help me. Here's what I have:

Father: John BARFOOT b. abt 1880 - 1820
Mother: ??????

Children:
Mary Margaret; b. abt 1830 - 1840; m. James Robert CAMERON

*Notes: John BARFOOT had a large estate and was named among, the
gentry. John BARFOOT was born in Ireland. He
said he supposed the Barefoot men were Episcopalian. After the war,
they being officers were given what was called Crown
Land. The Barefoot men were tall, 6 foot plus, and light complexion.
Mary Margaret BAREFOOT was light. The men were
all businessmen and had good memories -- That may have come from their
mother's side as she could hear a sermon and
repeat it. Some used Barefoot and others
used Batfoot.

Grandmother CAMERON's name, formerly BAREFOOT, came from North
Ireland.The Descendants of George
SPEELMAN and Annetta CAMERON

Father: James Robert CAMERON (b. abt 1830/1840)
Mother: Mary Margaret (BAREFOOT or BARFOOT) CAMERON (b. abt 1830/1840)

Children:
Annetta CAMERON b. abt 1860; m. 1884/1885 George SPEELMAN

Father: George SPEELMAN b. abt 1860; m. abt 1884/85; *Note: George is
the son of Isaac SPEELMAN (1808 - 1897)
and Mary Margaret (SHULTLZ) SPEELMAN (b. 1823 - d. ?)
Mother: Annetta CAMERON b. abt 1860;

Children:
1. Mary Annetta b. 5 Nov., 1885 in Ohio - d. 14 Oct., 1966; m. Willis
Arthur HAYDEN; 5 daughters
2. Weldon James George b. 9 Oct., 1888, Kimball, Neb. - d. 30 1972; m.
Pearl PRIEST
3. Laura Mildred b. 31 May, 1891, at Kimball, Neb. - d. 30 May, 1955;
m. Carl V. BALL; 2 sons, adopted
4. Margaret Edna b. 8 Aug., 1894 at Kent, IA - d. 24 Jul, 1986; m.
Robert Rundlet; 1 son and 1 daughter
5. *Georgianna b. 2 Mar., 1897 at Prescott, IA - d. 28 Sep., 1992; m. 6
Jul., 1921 Clyde Scott JOHNSTON; 2 daughters
6. Adley Prescott b. 19 Apr., 1900 at Shannon City, IA - d. 2 Nov.,
1976; m. 1st Hazel LINNEGAR; no children; m. 2nd
Ruby TAYLOR
7. Cameron Kerney b. 5 Jul., 1903 at Shannon City, IA - 30 Aug., 1980;
m. Mary E. BOYD; 1 daughter

*Notes: Their address while in Nebraska was Kimball, Barnes County and
were about 35 miles from Harrisburg, Nebraska.
They lived in a sod house and later in a log house. They built both.
It is likely that Weldon was born in the sod house. It was
the fall following their arrival from Millersburg, Ohio in October. The
canyons, they talked about were the Wildcat Mountains.
They left Nebraska on Weldon's 5th birthday and came to Iowa. Laura was
born in Prairie Dog Town. Mary was born in
Millersburg, Ohio. All the rest claim Southern, Iowa for their birth
place. Great Grandpa Speelman was apprenticed by his
father when about 15 years old to learn the tin smith business from an
accomplished tin worker for tubs, wind mills, and wheels,
etc. That way a boy learned a trade without tuition. The Speelmans had
their own band and, learned many songs. George
loved music. Annetta did not have any use for it. George missed it
some, as he would, sit on the porch, keep, time with is foot
and loudly fill our valley with his voice. But he never expressed
disappointment. Annetta's folks lived on a hill farm. Her father
ran a grist mill for near and far. He also made furniture, picture
frames, etc. It'seems that my Isaac was of small stature
according to Ruby Cameron.

Any info you could give me on their ancestors would be appreciated.

Sincerely,

LeAnn Hugeback
