Subject: [CAMERON-L] BUREAU OF LAND MANAGEMENT/GEOGRAPHIC NAMESAVER
Date: Sat, 01 Aug 1998 16:19:42 -0700
Hi, Cameron Cuzzins:
For those of you who haven't already checked out this site, the actual
documents for surnames, can be viewed at:
The Bureau of Land Management -
http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/
Just enter your own zip code (explains this is for area
counting/interest purpose) & click on the state you wish to check out.
Data can be printed out - downloaded - instructions for downloading are
included.
Unfortunately, they only cover 11 states: PA & MD are not there.
Ohio, Indiana, Missouri are - and, I know many CAMRONs/CAMERONs did move
into the other listed states, as well. South Carolina seems to have
been/still is, I think, a haven for CAMRONs/CAMERONs, but unfortunately,
SC is not included in the Land Management Index. Just a clue I'm
tossing in the pot - I don't have data on SC cuzzins.
One other good site I found, and consider a great genealogy tool, is:
Geographic Namesaver at -
http://www.mit.edu:8001/geo
self-explanatory, really, but just plug in the town and state - data
pops up - or just the town and you get a whole bunch of same town name
in different states.
Good hunting - good luck! Shirley:
