Thanks Thom! I have a friend known best as Alasdair CAMERON Wellhouse, his farm is
at Wellhouse by Kilcoy Castle. Every Tom Dick and Harry seems to be Alistair
Cameron. We have three with my own name among the 90 members of Clan Cameron NSW.
Where we lived on a farm near Beauly in 1990 our neighbour was Ishbell Pigs. Her
REAL surname was MACKAY.
In the adjacent area there were many girls called Ishbell Mackay. Typically, Scots
rural villages get by with a very small number of surnames!
The reason for "Pigs" was that she was the only local Ishbell Mackay who farmed
pigs. No one laughed, her name was spoken without derision. Politeness and manners
are a heavy duty for Scots, tourists take care!!
Ishbell Pigs allowed her animals to shelter in a ruined croft house once occupied
by Simon Cameron beside "ours". A sad building, Simon's roof had fallen in long
long ago, and sits skewed upon the low stone walls. In Scotland, a ruin cannot be
demolished without Planning Authority.
Cheers.........
