The Loveness Logging Co. has the contract for cutting and delivering
logs to the Edgerton mill this season. A crew of timber fallers
commenced work March 31 but the storms of the past week have somewhat
hindered their progress. About two miles of new road will have to be
built before the logs can be trucked out. The mill has undergone
extensive repairs during the winter and is now ready for operation as
soon as logs are available.
J. E. Albaugh was in town Tuesday from his home on Willow Creek.
Elmer Harper arrived in Adin on the bus Tuesday from Martinez where he
has been visiting his mother Mrs. Margaret Harper and his sister
Mrs.Alta Wallace and family. Elmer has nearly recovered from the knee
operation he had in January.
Mr. and Mrs. Ira Knifong drove to Redding Tuesday. They took Ora's
sister Mrs. Myra Johnson that far on her way to Grants Pass. She had
been spending the week at the Knifong home.
Mrs. Alice Davidson of Klamath Falls is here visiting her daughter Mrs.
Nidever and family.
Mrs. Nellie Ward of Redding spent a few days visiting her mother Mrs.
Maude Benefield over the past week end.
Harold Lein who has been employed at the Nelson garage made a trip to
Portland and other Oregon points this week. Mrs. Lein accompanied him.
Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Horr arrived home this week from several weeks visit
to relatives in Missouri.
Will Harvey who has been in the Alturas hospital for more than a week
with a severe attack of flu was sufficiently improved to be returned to
his home Sunday.
Lester Benefield has taken a position as driver on one of Fluhrer's
bread trucks on the Adin-Fall River run.
Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Bickel of South Gate arrived in Adin recently and are
staying at the Art Yokum home until they can find a permanent home.
Bickle is helping with the carpenter work at the Glen Kuykendall
apartments and will later be employed at Edgerton's mill.
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Faxon of Center district were visiting in town
Monday.
Mr. and Mrs. Bert Mulkey arrived in Adin Monday on a short visit to Mr.
and Mrs. Ira Nelson and other friends. They made their home in Honolulu
for several years after leaving Adin but have been back in the United
States for the past year during which time they have traveled
extensively. Their son and his wife Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Mulkey and
family are still in Honolulu. Mrs. Wayne Mulkey is the former Miss
Velma Nelson.
Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Steele were visiting in Bieber Friday at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. George Loomis and at the home of Mrs. Annie Mitchell who
recently returned from Sacramento where she spent the winter with her
daughter and son in law Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Fraser.
Mr. and Mrs. Haskell Parks made a trip to Mt. Shasta City last week to
spend the day with his sister Mrs. Earl Bassett and family and to bring
his mother Mrs. Anna Parks back to her home on Willow Creek. The
Bassetts had recently returned from a trip to Turlock where they had
visited another sister, Mrs. Bertha John and family, and to get Mrs.
Parks who had been spending the winter there with her daughter.
The home of Mrs. Ethel Nash and Mrs. Cornelia Smith was a place of
happiness over the week * ren and grandchildren came home for Easter.
Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Nash and four children and Earl Nash came from their
home in Redding. Mr. and Mrs. Locy Nash and family came from McCloud
and Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Neptune and family came from Mt. Shasta City.
They all attended church and Sunday School on Easter morning.

Donn Dye and Cyrus Pearson of Round Valley were arrested this week for
the illegal possession of deer meat. They plead guilty before justice
of the peace Joseph T. Steele and were fined $50 each. Game Wardens Don
Davison of Alturas and Dell Baxter of Bieber made the arrests.
News came over the air on Tuesday morning of the sudden death during the
night of that well beloved figure and "poor man's friend," Henry Ford.
Deputy Grand Matron Ruth Boyd of Tulelake paid her official visit to
Esther chapter No. 74 at Adin, Tuesday evening. One of the special
events of the evening was the dedication of the new "Star" carpet.
Beside the honored guest Ruth Boyd, were visitors from Tulelake, Alturas
and Fall River lodges. Mrs. Marjory Barmettlor a past matron of this
lodge came from her home in Modesto, especially to be present and take
part in the dedication ceremonies.
Mrs. Eleanor Steele is teaching classes in the grammar school in the
absence of the regular teacher Mrs. Quigley who is ill at her home in
Lookout.
Mrs. Lillian Rice is ill at her home and Mrs. Edith Fox is teaching her
class.
