About You and Your Friends
The booster dance at the hall last Tuesday night was largely attended.
John Gould of Lookout, was among the visitors to Alturas last Saturday.
Elmer Vernon and wife, of Lake City, were in Alturas for a few days last week.
The sheriff left last Sunday with Chas. Romero and Chas. Presto for San
Quentin.
A large number of people from different places were here last night to the
Booster Banquet.
Marx Gosch was up from Canby last Tuesday. Says the farmers have about got
their crops in.
Will and Elden Flournoy were here from Likely last Thursday attending to
business matters.
J. C. Morrison , a prominent rancher of Lindale, was doing business at the
county seat last Monday.
Assessor Mulkey, is jumping sidewise these days, but is getting along nicely
with his work of assessing.
Coroner and Public Administrator W. W. Shartell, was transacting legal
business at the County seat last Sunday.
R. A. Laird left here last Friday for San Francisco where he goes as a
delegate to the Grand Parlor of the Native Sons.
The Native Daughter's banquet at the Masonic Hall, last Tuesday evening was a
swell affair and a large number attended.
Mrs. A. Lauer and Mrs. E. C. Bonner will leave here this morning with their
children for a six weeks visit at the Bay Cities.
Mrs. Mary Doten was in from her home on Fitzhugh Creek last Thursday, and
informed us that Miss Mary Shields was improving some, but very slowly.
The county dads have had the big old county safe moved from the treasurers
office to the office of the tax collector. L. H. Sisson did the moving.
Harry Cook, one of Eagleville's prosperous young farmers, was doing business
in Alturas last Friday. Says prospects for good crops in his section are
good.
J. Frankl, the once Lakeview merchant, passed through here last week on his
way to Lakeview from San Francisco. Mr. Frankl now has his home in the city.
Judge Head completed his labors in Superior Court last Friday, and left on
the evening train for his home in Redding. He was a pleasant gentlemen to
meet and made friends here.
Farmers, we will give 25 cents per dozen for all eggs you bring us. Can't
glut the market at E. Lauer and Sons, and we believe in holding up the price
on all farm produce. Bring along your eggs.
N. S. McKenzie, manager of the California and Oregon Telegraph Co., came out
from Susanville last week and remained for several days looking over the
lines and offices in this county. He says everything points to good times in
Lassen county the coming season.
Miss Hammond, who has taught the primary room in out public school the past
winter, left for her home at Oakland last Friday evening. The lady made many
warm friends during her stay here and gave excellent satisfaction in the
school room. We hope to see her return next year.
E. W. Baker, a photographer, has located in Alturas and has fitted up a neat
gallery in the stone building back of the Wiegert residence. Mr. Baker is a
first class photographer as samples of his work plainly shows. For beauty of
finish and truthfulness to life surely none better have ever been seen here.
Give him a sitting if you want work executed by an artist.
Dr. John Stile has moved his office to the residence on Main Street, know as
the Ancil Morse house where he has nice offices fitted up. He has also moved
his family into the residence known as the Warren Adams residence. His
office and residence are connected with all telephone lines, and he can
promptly attend to all country calls.
Quite a crowd of visitors attended the exercises at the public school last
Friday, being the last day. Miss Hammond's little ones gave a very
interesting and well rendered program, also the pupils of Mrs. Mulkey's room.
After the program in Mrs. Mulkey's room, the boys of the room spent the
remainder of the afternoon planting trees.
Miss Hammond who has been teaching the primary department of out school the
past winter, and who left for her home at San Jose last week, for a visit to
friends and relatives, will return in about three weeks and will be governess
on the Dorris ranch the coming summer.
The case of The People vs. Chas. Hughes for selling whiskey to Indians was
tried before justice Baldwin last Monday. The district attorney represented
the people while Traugh and Wylie appeared for Hughes. The case was tried
before a jury.
