Charles Winfield Stone and Mariah Camp were married on September 17, 1885 in
Warrick County, Indiana. Their first two children, Pearl and Myrtle were
born in Indiana. The other five children were born in Breckenridge County,
Kentucky.
In the spring of 1923 the family moved to Williamsville, Illinois and 6
years later moved to Taylorville, Illinois.
On September 17, 1925, Charles and Mariah celebrated their 50th wedding
anniversary by having the first Stone/Camp reunion in Manners Park in
Taylorville. According to Charles when he wrote his mee-mores (memoirs),
all of his children were present, as well as 15 grandchildren and one
great-grandson.
Plans were made at that time to have the reunion the 1st Sunday in September
1936, in Manners Park. After a few years the reunion was held in Lincoln
Park in Springfield, Illinois. Later, after Charles' and Mariah's daughter,
Pearl, died, a grandson, Lawrence Leslie, and his wife, Helen, requested the
reunion be moved to Palmer, Illinois where it still is today.
Charles' and Mariah's children are Pearl Leslie, Myrtle Haupt, Marie
Beauchamp, Ruby Hannaford, Ira Stone, Jasper Stone and Bill Stone. Mariah
is a descendant of John Steel Camp.
The Stone/Camp reunion has been held every year since 1925, though scant in
family members during war years. It has been held the FOURTH SUNDAY in
AUGUST for several years, and will be again this year. Palmer is about 8
miles south of Taylorville, Illinois.
M. Carter, Granddaughter of Marie Beauchamp
