Nan,
My Camp family moved from Dale Co., Alabama sometime after the 1850 census
to Anderson Co. TX. They moved with his wife's family by the name of Rogers.
There were about 7 or 8 families that moved to Texas. The Rogers and Camp
families only stayed in Anderson County for a few years because they were
listed on the Johnson Co. Tax roll by 1859.
My ggg-grandfather was an only son of Sextus Camp & Jane Crawford Camp.
My ancestor was James Elbert Camp b.5-2-1819 in Georgia or possibly
Campbellton, FL. About 1839/40, he married Mary Pauline (Polly) Rogers in
Dale Co. AL. They both died of influenza in 1862 in Johnson Co., TX.
Their children were:
Nancy b. 1841 in Dale Co. AL
Martha b. 1844 in Dale Co. AL
James Sextus b. 1845 in Dale Co.,AL
William Gabriel b. 1847 in Dale Co., AL
Susan Jane b. 1848 in Dale Co., AL
I believe that there were other children born in Texas besides the one that
is documented Thomas Irvin Camp b. 1860 in Johnson Co., TX.
Nancy m. George Harris 1878 in Johnson Co., TX
Martha m. John Wood St.Clair 1865 in Johnson Co. TX
William Gabriel m. Samantha Phillips abt. 1866 in Johnson Co., TX
