Buck, does Tyron still exist? I have heard the name somewhere, but I can't
remember who was telling me about it. Some of my (actually my wife's) Camp
family lived in the County just to the west of Charlotte, near Shelby and
Gastonia (I think). Several Camp ancestors are buried in a cemetery in
Charlotte, but I don't know the name. My wife's last ancestor was an uncle,
Merwin Camp, who just died a couple of years ago in Atlanta, GA. He was
telling me some family stories while I was trying to write them down while he
talked. Supposedly, there was four Camp brothers that settled in Old 96
district (so he called it). Two (Peter Quinn and John Clayton) lived in what
is now Cherokee County, and the other two (Frank and James) lived in North
Carolina (Rutherford County, I believe). Sons of one of them (maybe both)
moved closer to what is now Charlotte. Why, I don't know. All that I know
about the two in North Carolina is their names. I have more info on Peter
Quinn and John Clayton since Peter Quinn is my wife's direct ancestor, and
she was very close to one of her cousins (a grand daughter of John
Clayton's). Some of John Clayton's children moved to California, and my wife
went to California in the 50s to visit her Uncle Saul Camp (a son of John
Clayton).

Well, enough of this rambling. I have a lot of research work to do on her
side of the family. In addition to Camp, she has Pettit, Lemmon, Whechel,
Lavender, Hicks, Baber, Marsh, Altman, Mabry, and Poole, among others. So
you can see I have a monumental task before me. I certainly need all the
help I can get.

Thank you,

Harold in Florida
