Hi Carole,
I am not a Camp Descendant personally but my 3rd G Grandfather John Pearce
and Margaret Moon Pearce's Daughter, Mary Polly Pierce(actually Pearce)
married Robert Berry Camp, son of James Camp and Mary Berry. They lived in
Gwinnett County, GA after they married in Probably Jackson or Walton County,
Ga. From Gwinnett County, GA they moved to Walker County, GA Their son Avery
who was too old to serve in the Civil War was still captured by the Union
Army and was imprisoned in a Yankee Prison Camp in Chattanooga,TN. When last
seen when leaving home Avery had a bucket of Gold coins. No one in his
family, his wife Martha Abercrombie received any benefit of the money.
I follow the Camp Family list very closely in addition to the Pearce Mailing
List and you are the closest I have ever come to connecting with James Camp,
Mary Berry, and Robert Berry and my GGG Grandfather's daughter ever.
We do have a kinship however many times removed.
I just returned from Chattanooga, Tn and Walker County, Georgia and there
are Camp Family stories in the Walker County Heritage 1833 -1983 Book.
I also visited the Chickamauga, GA Cemetery and there a quite a number of
Camps interred there including Avery Camp's wife, Martha Abercrombie in the
Abercrombie crypt.
All of my Pearce family came from Georgia and the scattered like a shotgun
blast all over the state.
Thank you for your post.
Bill Pearce
