Friends,

A thought on how better to identify places for those who may help you:

USA folks, please try to remember that when you post to this list you are
outside the United States - in cyberspace.

This is an international list, so it is helpful if you can identify places
clearly. For example, in the 19th century there was much back and forth
between Canada and the USA, and so it may well be that someone in Canada
could help someone in the US and vice versa.

Therefore please try to identify places so that they are understandable to
others - you may even be helping yourselves.

For example not everyone knows that VA is Virginia and in the USA. It
doesn't tale long to write "state of Virginia USA." Forget the commas if
you like. I have lived here twenty years and still can't remember whether
MA is Massachusetts or Maine and have to look it up each time.

I know that this is such a big country that those who have never been
outside it find that hard to imagine, but it is true.

Only trying to help (being born a foreigner).

All best, Diarmid Campbell
