Subject: Anthony F. Campbell of Boston & Brooklyn

After visiting Scotland, I started by family history with Anthony F.
Campbell as my first inspiration. Years later, I am still stuck.
Anthony Campbell (1822-1914) was born in Boston, MA and moved in 1839 with
his family to NYC / Brooklyn. He became an expert sailmaker; his tools
belong to me. In 1860, he was elected Sheriff of Brooklyn. His courage
and leadership during the 1863 draft riots prompted President Lincoln to
name him the US Marshal for Brooklyn. President Andrew Johnson later
appointed him Deputy Postmaster for the city. He is buried in Green-Wood
Cemetery in Brooklyn. He married Anna Van Pelt. His daughter, Anna,
married my great-grandfather Charles Bartow, who served in the Fourteenth
Brooklyn.
I am seeking to find his parents, their parents and my Scottish roots. Any
assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
