Hi Listers,
I am again going to post my brick wall in hopes that someone will have some answers to several questions.
My line of Campbell's is with JAMES CAMPBELL BORN ABT. 1680-?x He is first thought to be in the LUNENBERG, VA area abt. 1740-50's. Previous records indicate that a James Campbell who came from Scotland in the 1720-22, a minister, also had a son that was named James. I haven't found the exact connection, as yet.
My JAMES married SUSANNA LEAKE/LEEK/LEAK.. S he was the daughter of RICHARD LEAKE. Richards ancestor of fame was Sir Walter Leak of England.
It is thought that this couple married in or around the Lunenberg area of Va around the time of the 1750's. Shortly thereafter they removed to N.C.
There they had sons,
RICHARD CAMPBELL
WILLIAM CAMPBELL
JAMES CAMPBELL JR.
The sons all were born in the mid 1700's.
Richard married RACHEL SMITH, daughter of JOHN SMITH SR. William married Rachel's sister, SAMANTHA AKA SMITHIE/SMITHY SMITH.
RACHEL AND RICHARDS HISTORY IS WELL RECORDED DUE TO RICHARDS MILITARY RECORDS.
They married in the 1780 in ROCKINGHAM, N.C/Va? It is believe that the Smith's had lived in that area during that time.
The Smith-Campbell lines removed to TN by about the 1810-20's. The Campbell's lived in Robertson, Perry and several other locations. The Smith line lived in Williamson Co.
Many of their children and other related families later removed to Ar living in the FRANKLIN-JOHNSON COUNTY AREAS.
It is my strong belief that some extended family of the early Campbell line may of lived in Pa. An Ancestor would of been a JOHN CAMPBELL, see pic on ancientfaces.com This is the only good lead that I know of in that area and my entire family favors this man who we know nothing about, nor, do we have any knowledge of a PA connection to our Va Campbell's.
Other family names were the Hill's, Hughey's, Warren's, Phillip's, Kelly, Hicks and Dickerson.
If anyone has any info on this line please get in contact with me.
Thanks in Advance!
Karen
