They may have been talking about Stone Mountain, GA.
It's in the suburbs East of Atlanta.
It's a solid granite "bubble". There's a park built
around it. There's a Confederate engraving on the
front also. If you ever get nearby, I highly
recommend seeing it.
Hope this helps.

Subject: [CAMPBELL] New Info on Campbells of Buladean NC
I just got around to listening to some old cassette tapes I had made of
my Grandparents- George and Jane Campbell and Great Great Uncles Tom and
Lace Campbell. I had taped these in the spring of 1974 when I first started
teaching. They are all dead now. I wish I had worked on these years ago. I
just got them to talking about the old timesand they had many stories. In
these I found several new names and locations that may help break down some
of our research road blocks.
They talked of my g g grand father TB (Thomas Bady) Campbell, His
brother EJ (Elijah Jackson) and also another brother Billy (William). Also
there was a sister- unknown name- that was the grandmother to Sam, Jason and
Walt Odom of Buladean. They all came to the Greasy Creek section of Mitchell
Co. some time pre 1850.
Billy didn't stay here long. They said he went over to Stone Mountain. I
am assuming from their talk it was in Tennessee, maybe around the Limestone
Cove area in Unicoi Co. His Wife was Mary Grindstaff and some of his kids
were Dave, John, Jeff and Lish?. He had a girl named Jackie? And maybe
another boy called Little Jackson. One of the girls married a Sneed /
Snead.
I hope these new names on Billy's side lead to some help in identifying
their parents. I do know they(TB, EJ) were born in NC. The 1850 Census
gives this information.
Also on these tapes I learned that TB was the second person to be
burried in the Campbell Cemetary on Greasy Creek- September 1886 from the
flux. His sister was the first. She is buried beside him with an unmarked
rock headstone.
I also learned Jackson Campbell and son Neeley are also buried on Greasy
Creek in a different cemetary closer to the mouth of Greasy. Neeley has a
stone but Jackson's grave has an unmarked rock.
I have a total of 5 tapes and I am in the process of transcribing
(Slowly). My, I wish I had worked on these years ago. All the information
and history of this area- Civil War stories, Magnetic City stories, first
settlers and a lot of family history are included.
I am excited about all this information and getting to hear the voices
of my relatives who have been dead several years. I will post more when I
get a chance.
