Deaths (02/19/00) ADAIR _ Sherrill (nee Palmer) died peacefully February
2nd, 2000 at the age of 96 years. She is lovingly remembered by nieces
Geraldine Casadio (London, England), Dorothy Mardson (Paris, France),
cousins Michael Hutcheon (Toronto, Ontario), Vivie and Tommy (Saskatchewan)
and friends in Vancouver and Victoria. Born in Southport, England, she moved
with her family to Saskatchewan and ultimately settled in Vancouver, where
she was principal of the Adair Advertising Agency for many years. Sherrill's
family and friends wish to acknowledge the fine care that she received at
Blenheim Lodge during the last few years when she could no longer be

Deaths (02/19/00) BOHAY _ Paul, peacefully on February 16, 2000 passed
away at the age of 77. Predeceased by his wife Anne in 1996. He is survived

Deaths (02/19/00) BOILEAU _ Stella Mary passed away on February 17th, 2000
at the age of 85. She was predeceased by her husband Tony R. Boileau. Loving
her and missing her are her sisters Helen Balderson, Nell Keller, children
Pat Robinson (Brian), Michael Beggs (Darlene), John Beggs (Kathleen), Sandra
Watts, stepson Darcy (Betty), and grandchildren Darryl, Kevin, Kim, Toni,
Kelly,Jody, Christopher, Joel, Crystal, Stephanie and great-grandchildren
Nichelle, Ashly, Blake, Mitchell, Cole, Alyssa, Alex, Sarah, and many other

Deaths (02/19/00) BRADLEY _ Ayvonne (Vonnie) Margaret, died peacefully in
St. Paul's Hospital on January 29, 2000 with family at her side. Born on a
farm in Davidson, Saskatchewan on November 10, 1922. Vonnie lived in
Vancouver most of her life. As a young woman she was an elevator operator in
the old Sun building, then the tallest building in Vancouver. She worked at
the Bay, UBC, the Planetarium and as a deckhand on a whale watching boat.
Although she had a history of respiratory problems and cancer she remained
vibrant and active up until a month of her death. She had many friends,
attended Seniors Cyber School and was a reporter for the Haro Park News. In
her final days in the Hospital she had so many calls that she had to have
the phone removed, she was too weak to respond. All good wishes were passed
on to her. Our sincerest thanks to all that called. She touched so many
lives and will always remain in the hearts of family and friends. As per her
wishes there will be no service and her remains will be cremated. The ashes
will be spread on the beach directly below Margaret Pigott Park in
Vancouver, where the ashes of her daughter Laurine are located. Vonnie will
finally be reunited with the daughter she missed so much. A celebration of
life will be held at the Billy Bishop Legion, 1407 Laburnum in Vancouver, on
Saturday, April 1st at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made

February 17, 2000 in Burnaby. She is survived by her loving family, husband

Deaths (02/19/00) BROTHERS _ Evelyn Mary, born in Victoria, July 30, 1915,
the only child of Charles and Mary Delahaye, passed away Wednesday, February
16, 2000 at the Kiwannis Care Centre at age 84. Predeceased by her husband
Albert in 1982, Evelyn is survived by her half brother Edward of the Channel
Islands; 3 sons, Gary (Suzanne), Duane (Diane), Kent (Stephanie);
grandchildren Leanne, Lori, Sean, Sara, Colleen, Lynsey, and Keri; as well
as many friends and family from Trail and Vancouver Island. Evelyn left
Victoria to join Albert in Trail where their 3 sons were born and raised. As
retired "empty nesters" they moved to Parksville for golfing and gardening
in the sun. Evelyn moved to the North Shore to join her family in 1997.
Services will be held at St. Martin's Anglican Church, 195 East Windsor,
North Vancouver, 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 21, 2000. In lieu of flowers,
give a friend a hug, pat a dog, go for a walk on the beach, or a stroll

Deaths (02/19/00) FAIRBANK _ Robert Douglas, known to all as Doug, beloved
husband of Carol Fairbank of Melville, passed away Tuesday, February 15,
2000 at the age of 70 years. Besides his wife, Doug is survived by two sons,
Jim (Anita) of Melville and Bob (Barb) of Surrey, B.C.; two brothers, Ed
(Joy) of Victoria, B.C. and Art (Chris) of Coquitlam; a sister Alice (Mike)
of Surrey, B.C. He will be dearly missed by his grandchildren; Matthew,
Christopher, Stephen, Danielle, Carly, and Dougie, as well as nieces,

Deaths (02/19/00) FONS _ Ruth, late of Calgary, formerly of New
Westminster passed away on February 13, 2000 at the age of 91. Ruth was born
on November 6, 1908 in Peachland, BC. She moved to the Vancouver area as a
child and later relocated to Port Alberni, BC where she married Axel in
1938. Following Axel's death in 1961, Ruth moved back to the Vancouver area
with her daughter Cathy. She resided there until Cathy's death in 1994 which
brought her to Calgary to be with her son and daughter-in-law. Ruth had a
strong faith, loved the Lord and fellowship with God's people. Ruth is
survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Ritchie and Gloria Fons of Calgary;
five grandchildren, Nairn, Nathan, Kevin, Carmen and Brenden; five
great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was
predeceased by her husband Axel in 1961, a daughter Cathy in 1994, three
brothers Dwight, Cecil and Allan and two sisters Jean and May. A Memorial

Deaths (02/19/00) GILLMORE _ Margaret Edna, peacefully on February 17,
2000 at the age of 88. Predeceased by her beloved Jack on February 17th,
1991 at age 88. Survived by stepson Barry and wife Ann; sisters Lucille
Harris, and Carmen Anderson; nieces Raydelle Hyde, Marilyn Harrington,
Melanie Smith, and Jeanne Macrae and their families. Margaret was born in
Vancouver on August 29, 1911. She was a proud, honourary member in the
Vancouver Lions Ladies' Club. She was loving and generous to all throughout

Deaths (02/19/00) HADFIELD _ Maude 1906-2000, passed peacefully to the
arms of her Lord, February 10. The loving caring staff of Overlander
Hospital will miss her gentle soul as do her son Bruce and wife Margaret,
and her daughter Clarice with husband Ken Clement. She was predeceased by
her husband Fred in 1955. Her sister Mary and beloved brother John live in
Vancouver. Born in Port Arthur, Ontario, Maude came to Vancouver with her
mother who was in charge of the cookhouse for the railway construction. Mom
was one of the first ladies at American Can Co. to strive for better working
conditions. Married in 1935, she raised her family in a loving home where
the door was never closed _ always a place full of young and older people _
loved by her many friends and neighbours. Mom, you were so very special to
us. Maude was very active in Lady Lions, Curling Leagues, P.T.A., Baptized
Anglican, also a long time member of First United, she spent countless hours
with the Salvation Army. Maude also shared time with her son Bruce in his
Jehovah's Witness faith. As her health failed she moved from Kelowna to be
with her daughter Clarice for her remaining years. Memorial Service will be
held at Overlander Gathering Plaza, 953 Southill, Kamloops, on her birthday,

Deaths (02/19/00) KIRK _ Joseph "Joe" David, born in Invermay,
Saskatchewan in 1912, passed away peacefully at Surrey Memorial Hospital
February 17, 2000. Joe is survived by Hazel, his loving wife and partner of
60 years; 2 sons, Del (Karla) of Pitt Meadows, and Dave of Heffley Creek;
and 3 cherished granddaughters, Shannon, Crista-Lea, and Amber. Joe will be
fondly remembered by his peers as the quintessential horseman. Hazel and Joe
were the leading thoroughbred breeders of the late 50's and early 60's,
culminating in Joe's induction into the BC Thoroughbred Hall of Fame in
1982. His strong work ethic and dry wit brought him many friends during his
rise from very humble beginnings to the much envied and respected position
he has long held, not only in the racing industry, but also in the community
of Langley where he had spent the majority of his lucrative years. Friends
and family will always treasure their memories of Joe, who will continue to
live on in their hearts as the embodiment of Roy Rogers and Gary Cooper all

Deaths (02/19/00) KLIMA _ Imre passed away peacefully in his home on
February 15, 2000. He will be remembered with love by his family, Elizabeth,
his wife of 50 years; his children George, John and Judy, their spouses
Wendy, Brenda and Paul; and his grandchildren Sean, Alastair, Simon, Henry
and Julia. Born in 1924 in Budapest, Hungary, Imre and his family emigrated
to Canada in 1957 with the Sopron University Faculty of Forest Engineering.
He first taught at UBC and then undertook a rewarding engineering career
with the Provincial Forest Service and Parks Branch. Imre loved his family,
his friends and his books. He had a great sense of humour and a passion for
philosophy. He was a wonderful father, husband and friend. special thanks to
the Home Support Services nurses of the Capital Health Region, to Dr. David
Bell, Dr. Bill Nelems and to many others who gave Imre their love and
support during his illness. A memorial service will be held at McCALL BROS.

Deaths (02/19/00) KOSHEVOY _ Himie, died in his 91st year on February 14,
2000, at Lions Gate Hospital after a short illness. Himie worked for 40
years as a broadcaster, sports writer, city editor, managing editor and
columnist for Vancouver and Toronto newspapers. He was greatly beloved by
all who knew him for his charming ways and gentle wit. He will be missed by
his brother Joe Koshevoy; sister and brother-in-law Ancie and Arthur Fouks;
his stepson Rocke Wightman; nieces Sondi Ritter and Janice Blum; and
great-nephew Paul Ritter; and great-niece Romy Ritter. Funeral services took

survived by her Sister, Kirsten in Denmark; daughter, Bridgett (Don); son,

Deaths (02/19/00) MASSEY _ John, November 14, 1925-February 15, 2000. Died
suddenly in Richmond Hospital. He is survived by his wife Layne; son Clive
and wife Heather; sister Joan and husband Ron of Cheadle, England;
granddaughter Sage and dozens of friends. John was born and raised in
England. After a distinguished career in the British Army, and an Officer in
The Rifle Brigade, John came to Canada. He moved to Vancouver in 1958 and
British Columbia immediately became his home and soul place. Beginning his
career in Vancouver as an advertising executive. John's dry wit, immense
charm and love of nature made him one of Vancouver's most memorable
characters. Flyfisherman extraordinaire, bon vivant, avid sailor and
exceptional friend, John will be remembered by thousands of British
Columbians for his courage and determination to save huge tracts of
wilderness from destruction _ the Skagit River Valley from flooding and the
Kemano Project. His legacy is the wilderness which he tried to protect, the
love of flyfishing that he imparted to thousands of avid fishermen, and his
tremendous talents as a writer and storyteller. He will be sadly missed. In

Deaths (02/19/00) McCALLUM _ Archibald McDonald "Archie", born in
Cambuslang, Scotland, August 11, 1906 and was a long time resident of
Burnaby, passed away February 13, 2000 after a long illness. Fondly
remembered by his loving wife Dorothy (Dot) of Burnaby; daughter Heather
(Kim) Stephens; grandchildren Robyn, Dawn, Cameron and Laurel; brothers Hugh
and Alec; sisters Margaret and Flora and also nieces and nephews. Archie was
a much loved husband, father, grandfather and brother. Also an ardent golfer

Deaths (02/19/00) McKENZIE _ Frances E. born in Banff, Alberta, entered
this life on September 24, 1920 and began her journey to the next one on
February 14th, 2000. She passed away peacefully in Lions Gate Hospital with
her children at her side. Fran will be deeply missed by her loving family;
husband, Joseph of 59 years; sons, John (Jeanie), Bob (Patti); daughter,
Joan (Jim); grandchildren, Keri (Cam), Mimi, Kelly, Ryan, Kevin, Trevor,
Megan; brothers, Bill (Bernie), David (Anne); sister, Gladys; as well as
many other extended family and friends. She was predeceased by her father
Jesse and mother Winifred; sister Nellie and her brother Stan. Fran, a kind
soul, was a devoted mother and grandmother who left us with many wonderful
memories of family picnics in the park, Sunday dinners and warm family
Christmas celebrations. Her warmth, love and humanity will live with us
forever. A long time member of the West Vancouver Sketch Club, Fran loved
and appreciated art. Her paintings adorn many of her family's homes and are
revered with great pride and respect. Reading and playing scrabble with Joan
and her grandchildren were also important pastimes in her life. It should be
noted that as a great supporter of her children and grandchildren's athletic
pursuits she also shared with them a passion for the Vancouver Whitecaps
Soccer Club and the Toronto Blue Jays Baseball Team. The family extends
their heartfelt thanks and gratitude to Dr. Maureen Conly, Social Worker Mr.
Jim Cormack and the nursing staff of Lions Gate Palliative Care Unit for all
their kindness during Fran's journey. By request, no service will be held.

Hospital on February 16, 2000 at the age of 71. Marie was predeceased by her
loving husband Allan in 1989. She is survived by her one son Thomas Allan
Munn; 2 daughters, Deborah (David) Dunn-Leaf, Penny (Bill) O'Neill; 5

Deaths (02/19/00) SWAN _ Capt. James Leonard, born 30 March 1937, passed
away suddenly on 13 February 2000 in his 62nd year at Mission, BC with
family and friends at his side. Jim had spent his life working with ships on
the sea. At the age of sixteen he became a deck hand on vessels plying up
and down the West Coast. Years of hard work and study earned him the rank of
Master Mariner Foreign Going and he became the captain of ships sailing the
world over. His current assignment was as the Master of the research vessel
"Ocean Alert". He was home on leave at the time of his passing. Jim was a
strong family man and a good friend to many. He was a long-time Mission
resident and a member of the Fraser Valley Marine Association. He was also
the owner/operator of his own ship the "Waylin Myth" and Southview Marine
Charters. Jim was predeceased by his father Cecil; mother Jenny and sisters
Josephine and Toni. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend Linda
(Anne to her friends), his son Gary (Vicki), daughter Rhonda (Steven), his
brother John (Jocelyn); seven grandchildren, and countless friends and
relatives. Jim's family wish to extend their sincere thanks to the Mission
Sun Run Clinic, the people on Norrish Avenue, the Mission Memorial Hospital
Emergency staff, paramedics and police. A memorial service will be held at

Deaths (02/19/00) WILLIAMSON _ Dorothy Alberta Herzer passed away on
February 18, 2000 at the Ste. Anne's Veterans Hospital, Ste. Anne De
Bellevue, Qc. at the age of 84 years. Predeceased by her husband Robert
Dorland Williamson and her parents Martha Detjen and Traugott Otto Frances
Herzer. Mother of Sandra (Tony Phillips) of Debert N.S., Hugh (Shirley) of
Halifax, N.S., Marthanne of Mader's Cove, N.S.; grandmother of Ruth, Anne,
Robert (Phillips), Alexander, Robin (Pyke), Samantha and Andrew. She is also
survived by her brother Richard William Herzer of Vancouver, B.C. and her
dog Roscoe. Dorothy was a good friend to many two and four legged creatures,
a lover of gardening, music, travel and conversation. She was born in
Calgary, Alberta in 1915, lived on Kingsway in Winnipeg until her marriage
in 1944. She worked as an occupational therapist prior to and during the
War. Served as a Lieutenant in the C.W.A.C. and taught "Home and Industry"
with the Protestant School Board of Greater Montreal. She lived on Linnet
Crescent in Dorval from 1949 to 1991, with six years in Halifax 1966-1972
while her husband was regional manager for Air Canada. Dorothy had been a
resident of Ste. Anne's since 1991, where she charmed staff and residents
with her unique personality. She will be missed by many. A memorial service
will be held at Ste. Anne's Veterans Hospital Chapel on Monday, February 21,
2000 at 2 p.m. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to the Dorothy
