CALLAGHAN _ Margret (nee Kennedy). Passed away unexpectedly at home on February 27,
2002. Survived by her loving husband Ken and children, Barb (Gary), Joanne (Stan),
Robert (Susan) and stepchildren, Linda (Jack), Brenda and Bob. Will be deeply missed by
her brother Hugh (Marg) as well as 15 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren along with
other family members. A memorial service will be held March 8, 2002 at the Green Lake

BRASSINGTON _ Bob J. R. (VE7 BBB) age 79 years of Burnaby passed away February 28, 2002.
Bob was predeceased by his brother, Bill and is survived by his loving family; wife
Betty; sister Eleanor Tamkin; children Anne-Marie (George), Trish, John J. B. (Eileen),
Barbara (Matteo), June (Brent) and Michael (Teresa); 22 grandchildren; nieces, nephews
and numerous friends. Prayers will be offered on Tuesday, March 5 at 7:00 p.m. at St.
Helen's Church, 3860 Triumph Street, Burnaby, where the Funeral Mass will be celebrated
on Wednesday's at 10:00 a.m. Rev. A. Lovatin, C.S. Celebrant. In lieu of flowers,

CHOW _ Delbert, aged 79 years, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2002. Predeceased
by his loving wife Daisy in 1985. Delbert will be missed: by his daughters Christina,
Lorraine (Michael); grandchildren Stephanie, Matthew; sisters Violet, Evelyn; many
nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and friends. Funeral service to be held at
Forest Lawn Chapel on Monday, March 4, 2002 at 12:00 pm. Burial to follow at Forest Lawn
cemetery. "Dad" will always be remembered for his caring and sharing, by all those lives
he touched. He was proud to be a Chinese Canadian who served in WW II.

2002 at the age of 52. Predeceased by his father Renato in 1981. He is survived by his
loving family, mother Rosa, brothers Joseph and Michael, also by friends. Funeral

GORMAN _ James Charles (Jim), born January 23, 1950, passed away peacefully at his
beloved Westbank, B.C. home after a brief but valiant battle with cancer. In his last
days he was surrounded by many friends, some of whom travelled long distances to be with
him in his final struggle. Jim was predeceased by his father, Albert Edwin; his mother,
Allegra Gertrude; and infant sister, Luella Margaret. He is survived by the joy of his
life, his very special sister, Maureen Fay Gorman and many aunts, uncles, cousins and
friends who will miss him greatly. A memorial celebration of Jim's life will be held
March 9, 2002 at 3:00 p.m. at the Mount Boucherie Recreation Center and Community Hall,

Evergreen House, North Vancouver. Predeceased by her husband William Iverson in 1998.

GUTTERIDGE _ May Cecilia was born May 21st, 1917 in Gosport, England and passed away in
Vancouver, BC on February 26th, 2002. She was predeceased by her daughter Sonia Craddock
and is survived by her husband Arthur Gutteridge, two sons, Michael and Lance, eleven
grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. May Gutteridge was awarded the Order of
Canada in 1981, a Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, from Simon Fraser University in 1987,
the Rotary Foundation's Paul Harris Fellow award, British Columbia Senior Award (1986),
the Silver Eagle Feather award, and many other honours for her work with the less
fortunate in the downtown east side. May Gutteridge founded the St. James Community
Service Society which carries on her pioneering work, including Vancouver's first
free-standing hospice, the May Gutteridge Community Home, (May's Place). Memorial
Service Monday March 4th, 11am, St. James Church, 303 E. Cordova Street. Prayers the
previous evening at 7:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the May Gutteridge Fund to

passing of their mother on February 27, 2002. She leaves behind her daughters, Shelley

CYR _ Philip. On February 23rd, 2002 passed away at the age of 84. Survived by his

HAMPSON _ James Francis (Jim) of White Rock, B.C. passed away February 27, 2002. Born in
Manchester, England in 1908, he moved to Canada in 1921. He was manager of Dominion
Manufacturers, Vancouver Branch for 40 years. He retired in 1976 and spent his
retirement years enjoying life. He was a longtime member of the Bellingham Antique Auto
Restorers Club, and served on the council of Winter Estates where he lived. Predeceased
by son Jonathan, 18 in 1971, and by great-grandson Devin Wynne, 18 months of Bellingham,
WA. Survived by his loving and much loved wife, Fay of 64 happy years; daughters
Charliss (Ken) Malseed of Bellingham, WA and Corliss (Walter) Wynne of Ferndale, WA; 4
grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; 1 cousin Ronald Ralphs and family of Richmond,
B.C. At Jim's request there will be no service. A celebration of his life will be held
at their home in White Rock on Sunday March 10th at 2pm. Personal Alternative Services
in charge of cremation.

COOPER _ Jessie Allison (Alice) of White Rock, B.C. Born in Simpson, Sask. in 1914,
passed away peacefully February 17, 2002. Predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Jack;
once again to be together. Mom was loved and adored by her children, son Gary (Marjorie)
Cooper; daughter Joan (Les) Kynaston; grandchildren, Darren, Jill, Christopher, Nancy
and Katie; great-grandchildren, Clinton, Brett, Brooklyn, Abby, Tatiana, Jordan and
Ford; and her circle of family and friends of many years. Mom loved her weekly clubhouse
crib and attending the singing groups that Alice and Jack looked forward to weekly. Even
in her last days, Mom never lost her sense of humour or smile. We invite family and
friends to attend an open house, in celebration of Mom's life, on March 7, 2002 from 2-5
p.m. at #29-2303 Cranley Drive, White Rock, B.C.

GREENAWAY _ Louisa passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Friday March 1, 2002 at
the age of 89 years. Louisa was born in Dauphin, Manitoba on October 25, 1912. From a
very early age she was actively involved in the United Church where she formed many
lifelong friendships. She trained to be a teacher at Normal School and taught for 10
years in Manitoba until her marriage to George on Christmas Day 1942. Louisa was a
remarkable, vivacious woman who was admired in a variety of roles: Jr. choir leader,
soloist, organizer, archivist, story teller, teddy bear collector and most importantly
loving Wife, Mom and Grandma. George and Louisa had many travelling adventures together.
After George's death in 1996, Louisa continued her active life thanks to many kind
friends who acted as chauffeurs. Her regular visits to George Greenaway Elementary
School where students, staff and parents welcomed her like royalty, meant a lot to her.
She was thrilled to have one last trip to visit relatives in England and Ireland in
March 2001. Louisa is survived by her sister Mildred Thieman; her son David; her
daughter Elizabeth (Glenn) Beer; and her grandson's Adrian and Lee Beer. A Memorial
Service will be held Saturday March 9, 2002 at 6th Avenue United Church in New
Westminster at 1:30 pm. Flowers gratefully declined. If you so wish, donations can be
made to Kwomais United Church Camp or to Geroge Greenaway Elementary School in Surrey.

LAWSON _ Elizabeth Mary. Born December 23, 1927 in Vancouver, passed away peacefully on
February 26, 2002 in Burnaby, B.C. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Judy
and granddaughter Christina, and her family and friends that she touched along the way.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, March 5th at 2:00 p.m at First Memorial

JOHNSTON _ Our hearts are filled with overwhelming sadness as we announce the sudden
death of our son, brother, uncle and friend, Ron Johnston (July 23, 1952 - February 24,
2002). Ron will be remembered as a kind, reliable and generous man. He will be greatly
missed by his parents, Willie and Jean, his siblings, Bob (Moira), Barbara (Dennis),
Beverley, Evelyn (Ian), Maureen (Tom), Sharon (Ernie), and Eddie; his nieces, Allison,
Carley, Rebecca, Amy, Tessa, Hannah, Denise, Deanne, and great niece, Cassandra; as well
as his many friends and BC Hydro co-workers. Ron's passion for sports was evident in his
unshakable support for the Canucks and his nieces' Ringette teams. He also had a great
love for the outdoors and enjoyed many fishing trips and visits to the farm in Alberta.
We will always cherish our memories of Ron and remember the abundant love he had for his
family. Please join us as we gather to honour his contribution to our lives at Ocean

MacPHERSON _ James (Jim) Ian. On March 1, 2002, James (Jim) Ian MacPherson of British
Columbia passed away at the age of 81 years. He is survived by his loving children,

REID _ Gordon. Passed away at his home in Vancouver at age 74 of natural causes on
February 8, 2002. Born in Montrose, Scotland, August 4, 1927. Survived by his sister
Dorothy, brother Ben and niece Dorothy Walker. Predeceased by his mother Dorothy and his
father Benjamin. Gordon arrived in Montreal in 1957, joining the Seafarers International
Union. Landed in Vancouver in 1959 and continued sailing on the BC Coast. During his
seafaring career, he worked in the Deck Department aboard various vessels. The last
seven years before his retirement, he was employed in the Stewards Department with
Kingcome Navigation. He retired from the "Haida Brave" in 1992. A memorial service will
be held on Monday, March 4, 2002 at 3 p.m. at Glenhaven Memorial Chapel, 1835 East
Hastings Street, Vancouver.

71. She left her mark on many with her quiet and gentle spirit. Her love for those

RAY _ Edward Mack. Born August 14, 1946, New Rochelle, N.Y., passed away suddenly on
February 17, 2002 in Vancouver, B.C. Edward was a paramedic with the B.C. Ambulance
Service for 20 years. He loved animals and enjoyed his hobbies of metal detecting and
photography. Survived by his loving family brother Roy (Mildred), sisters Lori Ray and
Christine Williams, all of New York and nieces and nephews in the U.S. Loved and missed
by his companion Jo Ann Shaler, friends and co-workers. No service by request. Donations

STEWART _ John "Jack" of Cloverdale B.C. passed away February 21, 2002 at the age of 75.
Born in Stratford Ontario, July 27, 1926. Jack will be missed deeply by his loving wife
Rosalie Stewart of 54 years. His three children Sharon (Marcus), Steve (Regina), Sheila
(Bryan); grandchildren Robert, Bradley, Emily, Cassia, Mason, Alexander and Marissa.
Also survived by two brothers of Ontario and one sister of B.C. Jack was predeceased by
his mother and father and four brothers and one sister. Jack served in the field
artillery in WWII, was active in boxing and judo. Coming to B.C. in 1966 with his
family, Jack was an active sportsman and a proud volunteer for the boys and girls clubs
as well as a frontiersman for the Royal Canadian Legion. Jack enjoyed many memories with
his friends at Branch #21, Branch #6 of the Royal Canadian Legion. Jack will also be
missed by his friends at the Clydsdale Inn. No service by the families request, any
donations would be greatly appreciated to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

ROSE _ (Wasilieff), Joyce Marion, born June 17, 1943, passed away peacefully after a
very courageous battle with cancer on February 26, 2002. Predeceased by her parents
Molly and Arnie Rose. She is survived by her loving family; son Jerome Wasilieff of
Coquitlam, and daughter Jennifer (Dean) Fleming of Port Coquitlam. She is also survived
by special family members and many dear friends. Special thanks to the doctors and

MEULLER _ Martha (nee Strehl), was released from this life on Tuesday, February 26, 2002
at Moog and Friends Hospice House in Penticton, B.C. Her battle with cancer was
relatively short but very difficult. Martha will be missed by her companion and friend,
Manfred Meier who was her untiring caretaker for the past two years. Predeceased by
husband Gerd in 1967 and rejoining her five brothers and one sister who predeceased her
in Germany. Martha and husband Gerd first moved to Canada from Germany in 1954 and
settled in Vancouver's West End. Martha worked at St. Paul's Hospital for many years and
was well known throughout the German community. Survived by her only child, Ulrike
Marguerite of California; two grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Also survived
by daughter-in-law, Heather of the Lower Mainland, cousin Anton of Penticton, nephew
Erich (Christa) of Germany and the Meuller family members of Germany. Condolences may be

will be no formal services, but in remembrance of Martha, contributions to a church,

ROBERTSON _ Jimmy Robertson, a veteran of W.W. II, served in the regiment of the Queen's
Own Cameron Highlanders. He passed away peacefully, Thursday, February 28, 2002, in his
84th year, just months before his and wife Mary's 60th Wedding Anniversary. Jimmy was
predeceased by his beloved daughter, Gillian. His loving wife, Mary, and devoted
children, Margaret and husband Bruce, Jim and wife Elizabeth, and Graham and wife
Angela, along with grandchildren, Graham, Greg, Jamie, Carolyn, Alyson, Colin, Alan,
David and Julie will miss him dearly and treasure the memories of his wonderful sense of
humour, humility, compassion and intelligence. If, in fact, God had given us that gift
"To see ourselves as others see us" Our Dad would have seen a kind and gentle man adored

PETERS _ Laurens E.W. passed away on February 25, 2002 at 75 years. Laurens was born in
Wehl, Holland and served with Princess Irene Brigade in the Dutch Indies from 1946 to
1950. He came to Canada in 1951 and has always lived on the North Shore. He was a member
of I.L.W.U. for many years until his retirement in 1992. He enjoyed sports and was
involved in coaching boys in Lynn Valley and Mt. Seymour Soccer Association. He is
survived by his loving wife Mary of 43 years; his children Greg (Amanda), Mark; step-son
Tim Kanigan; his grandchildren, Mariah, Liam, Christian and Genevieve and
step-grandsons, Jason and Julian Kanigan; his sister Maria Overes and brothers Ted and
Alfred. Laurens was a loving man of fine integrity. He will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be held at the Boal Chapel on Monday, March 4, from 6-8 p.m. Funeral
service will be held at the Boal Chapel of First Memorial Funeral Services, 1505
Lillooet Rd., North Vancouver on Tuesday, March 5, 2002 at 12 p.m. Interment North

RUSSELL _ Diana Delia Marie (nee Lefaivre) was suddenly taken from us on February 22,
2002. Born in Hoey, SK, September 18, 1940, eldest daughter and the second child of
Hubert Lefaivre and Juliette Rabut. Diana grew up and attended school in Saskatchewan.
She relocated to the lower mainland where she married and raised her three daughters
Michele, Patti, and Valerie. Diana worked as a medical technologist for 40 years, over
30 of them spent at Royal Columbian Hospital. She had many passions but her greatest was
genealogy. Diana will be sadly and deeply missed by her family and many friends. Funeral

YOUNG _ Elizabeth (Betty), passed away peacefully in the early morning of March 1st,
2002 at Weatherby 3, Peace Arch Hospital, with her cherished family at her side. Age 88
years. Betty was predeceased by her beloved husband Mel, July 24, 1993. Our precious
mother is lovingly remembered and survived by her sons David and daughter-in-law Jane,
Ron and daughter-in-law Joanne, granddaughters Bari (Wayne) McMillan, Cara (Mike)
Young-Minichiello, Shelby and her friend Shane. Great granddaughters Taylor and Rianne,
her cousins May Dawe, Helen Lewis, Florence Sully, Gladys Groves, Herb (Bunny) Groves
and Joyce (Bert) Ellis. Betty's childhood friend Nita Matthew and her devoted companion

RANKIN _ Harry, passed away on February 26, 2002, at the age of 81 years. The deep bond
of love between Harry and his wife Connie will sustain Connie endlessly. Harry will live
