BATTYE _ Joyce S., late of Chilliwack, B.C. passed away April 18, 2002 at the age of 67
years. She was born June 20, 1934 in Calgary, Alberta. Private family cremation service.
She is survived by 5 children, Sandra (Steve) Marshall of Surrey, Tiara (Don) Hillier,
Barbara (Rick) Fisher, Leslie Battyre, Frank (Sherri) all of Chilliwack and 15
grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Frank in 1998. Should family and
friends so desire, donations in her memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

SCHWARTZ _ Brigitte (nee Harpe). Born in Estonia and died peacefully in her sleep at the
age of 89 years on April 15, 2002. She is survived by her six children Margrete, Ulrich
(Violeta), Heinz (Gloria), Peter (Heather), Inge (Klaus), Rudi (Jo-Ann) and her 49 grand
and great-children; and by her last surviving brother Alexander (Pibo). She was known by
all far and wide as Oma and will be remembered for her kindness and understanding. Oma
had an unshakeable trust in God, and prayed daily for all those in need. Memorial
Service will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2002 at 1:00 pm, at St. Mark's Lutheran
Church, 1573 East 18th Ave., Vancouver. It's her wish that in lieu of flowers, donations
to be made to her church.

OLSEN _ Bill (Wilfred) late of Pitt Meadows passed away April 19, 2002. Survived by his
loving family, three daughters Caroline (Ross), Linda (George) and Sharlene (Dennis),
also 1 brother Norman (Thelma), also 5 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and
many nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, April 24, 2002 at

MACDONALD _ Lillian passed away suddenly on March 29, 2002 at the age of 86 years.
Predeceased by Norman (husband). Lil will be lovingly remembered by her son David
(Ruth), grandchildren Ian and Julia, sisters Ethel, Phyllis, and Marion, and
sister-in-law Mary and niece Janet, as well as many other friends and relatives. Lillian
will be remembered at a Memorial Service to be held in the Unitarian Church, 949 W 49th
Ave, Vancouver on Monday, April 22 at 11:00 a.m.

DEMKIER _ Jean, peacefully at home on April 18, 2002 at the age of 71 years. She is
sadly missed by Husband Red, Daughters Ginnie and Marly (Wayne), Son Rusty (Cherie),
Grandsons Heath, Corey, Jeremy, Adam, Josh, Nick, Ryan and Matt. As well as numerous
other family members and friends. Memorial service will be held at 12 noon on Tuesday,

GRAHAME _ Richard Lawrence (Larry) - born December 1, 1921 in Enderby, passed away
peacefully April 19, 2002 in Burnaby. He will be lovingly remembered by his family;
brothers Fergus and Don; sister Helen; stepdaughters Carol Waugh and Ingrid Wirsche and
their families; many nieces, nephews and friends. Larry served in the Army during World
War II and worked on the waterfront for 30 years. A memorial service will be held

SIMPSON _ Bernadette "Bernie" passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 18, 2002, at
the age of 69. Predeceased by her husband Norman, 3 brothers and 1 sister. Loving and
missing her are her 4 children, Debbie (Terry), Shirley (Brian), Laura (Gavan), Ken
(Stacy); 11 grandchildren, Darren, Jana, Brandyn, Keynan, Bryttni, Kyle, Eric, Tazmyn,
Cody, Rylan and Matthew; 1 surviving brother, Leo; and many other relations and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 25, at Burquitlam
Funeral Home, 625 North Road, Coquitlam. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian

BEATTIE _ Phoebe Margaret. Passed away on April 13th, 2002 at her residence at the age
of 80. Phoebe was the beloved younger daughter of Richard and Margaret (nee McDonald).
She is survived by her loving sister Dorothy Gunston (Montreal), her dear niece Margaret
(Maggie) Gunston (Toronto) and her very best friend Zoe. She will also be deeply missed
by Maggie's partner, Charles I and their son, Charles II. A lifetime resident of West
Point Grey, Phoebe was an avid bowler, football fan and knew all the kids, and their
kids, on the block. Both Dorothy and Maggie would like to extend their most heartfelt
thanks to the careworkers who were so helpful to her in these last difficult months. And
a special thank you to the kind, loving 7th Avenue gang of friends: Dr. Deborah Brown,
Kate and Al, Sharon, Amanda, The Coopers. Trust that she valued each of you and cared
deeply for you all. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Perpetual
Help (10th Ave. and Crown St.) 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 23rd, Fr. Edward Kennedy, C.Ss.R.,
Celebrant. At Phoebe's request there will be no visitation. Arrangements by Kearney
Funeral Home (with special thanks to Steven C.). Thank you all for opening your hearts
to my aunt.

ROBERTS _ William Milne. Bill passed away April 17, 2002 in his 88th year. Bill is
survived by his wife Luella; daughters Marlene (Bill) Cherwoniak, Sylvia (Bryan Hoover),
Sheila (Ernie) Alexander, and Audrey; sons Len (Fran), and Don. He is also survived by 9
grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. His family immigrated to Canada from Scotland
in 1921 to Fielding, Saskatchewan. Bill signed with the Infantry Corps in 1940, and was
enlisted with the 16/22 Sask. Horse Regiment. He served in WWII with the Sherbrooke
Fusiliers, returning to Canada in 1945 and continued his army career stationed in
Saskatoon with the P.P.C.L.I. Bill and Lue retired to Cloverdale in 1978. A Memorial
Service will be held 2:30 pm, Tuesday, April 23 at Valley View Memorial Chapel, 14660 72
Ave., Surrey. In lieu of flowers, donations gratefully accepted to either the B.C.
Diabetes Association, 360-1385 West 8th Ave., Vancouver; or the B.C. Cancer Foundation,
601 West 10th Ave., Vancouver.

group WWII; former P.O.W. 1944; Royal Canadian Legion Br. 142; 1st graduating class UBC
Law School; founder, law firm of Brown Benson; life member of Vancouver Gyro Club and
War Amputees of Canada. Fondly remembered by wife Elizabeth; children Charles, Anthea

ROYAN _ Joanna (Joey) Brown, Late of Coquitlam, formerly of New Westminster passed away
peacefully on April 19, 2002 at the age of 97. Predeceased by her husband of 67 years,
Jack. Survived by her loving family, her son Ian (Dorothy), daughters Rose Aitchinson of
Scotland and Christine (Bob) Townsend of Medicine Hat, 6 grandchildren and 3
great-grandchildren. She will be missed by all who knew her. No service by her request.

DABOVIC _ Bessie, passed away peacefully on April 16, 2002 at the age of 89. Bessie was
predeceased by her beloved husband Spiro. Bessie is survived by two sisters, Millie
McKay and Lola Charles, 1 daughter Melana, 3 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. A
Memorial Service was held at Purdy Pavillion where she resided for four years. The
family sends it's heart felt thanks to the caring staff at Purdy Pavillion 3.
Disposition was by cremation.

Janet Mossop; brother Gordon (Ann) Scott; also many nieces, nephews and friends. A
