ARMSTRONG _ Nancy Joy, after a long and courageous battle with cancer, a long-time Maple
Ridge resident, died Sunday, May 19th 2002 at age 60. Nancy was a devoted wife of 39
years to husband Allan, and mother to Kevin, Brian and Christy, daughter-in-law Stacey,
and granddaughter Morgan. She worked at the Maple Ridge Health Unit for 16 years where
she made many good friends who were incredibly supportive. A kind, patient, soft-spoken,
giving, gentle and loving soul, she will be missed by all. We love you unconditionally,
more than words could ever say. We will always love you, Mom. Someday we will be
together again. Special thanks to Ken, sister Myrna, and the wonderful people who stood
by her side! A Memorial Service will be held at the MAPLE RIDGE FUNERAL CHAPEL _ 11969 -
216th Street, on Monday, May 27, 2002 at 1:00 pm. Rev. D. Griffin officiating. Reception

FREEBODY _ Eileen Catherine _ Born September 6th, 1920 in London, England, passed away
peacefully May 25th, 2002 in Surrey. Eileen was predeceased by her husband Jimmy in
1976. She will be lovingly remembered by all who knew her, especially by her children
Reg (Bev), Dale (Roberta) and Rie (Dwayne); grandchildren Nicole, Colin, David, Ricky
and Miranda (Ken) and great-granddaughter Samantha. A memorial service will be held on
Tuesday, May 28, 2002 at 10:00 am at Fraser Heights Funeral Home, 14835 Fraser Highway,
Surrey. Flowers gratefully declined, in memory of Eileen, contributions of the Last Post
Fund, c/o the Royal Canadian Legion or to the BC Cancer Society would be appreciated.

HAZELWOOD _ William Alexander _ late of Surrey. Born February 10, 1928 in West Kildonan,
Manitoba, passed away peacefully May 23, 2002 at Surrey Memorial Hospital with his
daughters by his side. William was predeceased by his father Sidney in 1978; mother
Margaret in 1992; sister Glady in 2001 and his beloved Lydia in 2001. Left to mourn are
his 4 daughters Kathy (Grant) of Edmonton, Gwen, Nadine (Mike) of Surrey, and Heather
(Howard) of California; 4 grandsons Christopher, Joel, Kyle and Tyler; brothers Sid
(Dora), and George (Margaret) of Manitoba, Fred (Blanche) of Alberta, and Michael
(Audrey) of Ontario; sisters Doreen (Jim), Margaret, and Louise of Manitoba; along with
numerous nieces, nephews and a few close friends. In 1969 William moved with his family
to BC where he continued his career in Power Engineering until his retirement. After he
retired, William continued to work part-time with the Commissioners and the Frontiersmen
until his health failed him. He served in both the Army and Navy and was a member of the
Royal Canadian Legion for 49 years. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May
29, 2002 at 2:00 pm at Fraser Heights Funeral Home, 14835 Fraser Highway, Surrey. In
lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice. A second service will be
held in Stony Mountain, Manitoba at a later date to bring Dad together with his beloved

POL _ Emmy of Surrey, BC passed away peacefully on May 24, 2002 at the age of 72 years.
She is survived by her loving husband of 46 years Andy; children Andrea (Dan), Rita
(Tom), Art (Cheryl), Brenda (Alan) and Ingrid (Blaine); 13 grandchildren; brother Jack
Kugel (Gre); brother-in-law Wim Sikken (Jenny); numerous nieces and nephews in Holland
and Canada. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2002 at 1:00pm at
Fleetwood Christian Reformed Church, 9165 - 160th Street, Surrey, BC. Interment to
follow at Valley View Memorial Gardens. The family would like to extend their
appreciation to the nursing staff of the palliative care ward of Surrey Memorial
Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations to the BC Cancer Society would be appreciated by

ROSS _ Nellie M. passed away May 21, 2002. Born in Bournemouth, England, February 6th,
1910. Predeceased by her brother, Donald Ross; sisters, Jessie Corson, Hilda Ross, Eva
Brown and twin Emilie Ross. Survived by nephew, Bill (Muriel) Corson; nieces, Audrey
(Peter) Moore and Dawn Brown. Also many cousins. Auntie Nell was brightly intelligent,
so beautiful, an artist, a writer and warm hearted. Nell earned the rank of Flight
Lieutenant, being one of the first R.C.A.F. women commissioned in Canada. She
specialized in radar, was an excellent marksman, served in Canada and Overseas during
WWII, rejoining in peacetime. Nell was raised in Vancouver and worked for National
Employment Service until retirement. Thanks to Dr. J. Lea, Dr. J. Imrie and staff at
Cedarview Lodge. Special thanks to Cedarview Nurses for their compassion in Nell's last
days. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the S.P.C.A. A gathering is to be held

STEWART _ Georgina Ifeania, passed away March 26, 2002 at age 75. She has a son, Daniel
William Stewart and a daughter, Bonnie Belle Stewart. Funeral Service on Tuesday, 9:00
a.m., May 28, 2002 at Glenhaven on Hastings.
SOTHAM _ Agnes DeSales passed away peacefully May 23, 2002 in her 94th year. Mom will be
deeply missed and forever lovingly remembered by her family: sons, Robert (Ann) and
Barry (Alison Jill); daughters Karen and Gaynor; grandchildren Joseph (Nancy), Robert
(Diana), John, Lisa, Barry , Anna, David (Cindy), Theresa (Peter), Lorena (Michael) and
Julie (Matthew); great-grandchildren Molly, Paige, William, Aleah, Peter, Jessie, Tyler,
Kyle, Devon, Brandie, Marcus, Chantelle, Amy, Daniel, and Tony; her dear sisters Dorothy
in Regina, and Catherine in Edmonton, along with many loving nieces, nephews and
cousins, their families and a number of good friends. Agnes was predeceased by her
husband Charles Bertram; parents Robert and Regina; brothers Robert, John, and George;
and sisters Helen, Margaret and Olive. Our sincere gratitude to the NSHS staff and the
many care workers who provided devoted home care for our mother over the past 3 years.
Many thanks too, to the doctors and nursing staff at Lions Gate Hospital, for their care
and for the concern shown to the family. Mom touched us all by her loving, gentle,
caring presence and we give grateful thanks for her 93 years in our midst. Prayers will
be offered on Wednesday, May 29 at 6:30 pm from Holy Cross Church, 1450 Delta Ave.,
Burnaby where the Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 11:00 am, Rev. Andrew
Maruszczak, S.D.S. celebrant. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your

LANGTON-ADAMS _ John Edward "Ted". January 25, 1928-May 23, 2002. Ted passed peacefully
at the Royal Alexandria Hospital, Edmonton, following a brief illness. He joins his old
friends, relatives and longtime companion "Chester" in the beautiful hereafter. A
service of Remembrance will be held on Wednesday, May 29 at 3:00pm from Parkland Funeral
Chapel, 3502-44 Avenue, Stony Plain with Pastor Lorne Trudgian officiating. Parkland

KLUCKNER _ Ruby Evelyn, passed away peacefully May 23, 2002 in her 89th year at Crofton
Manor in Vancouver. Ruby was predeceased by her sister Mildred and brother Ralph, and is
survived by her sister Lillian Taylor of Salem, Oregon, and her extensive extended
family: nieces and nephews Barbara Stoddart, Qualicum; Margaret Sutherland, Kamloops;
Bob Stewart, Alan Stewart, Paul Kluckner, and Michael Kluckner, Vancouver; Craig Hayes,
Oregon, and Laurence Hayes, Kentucky; 10 great-nieces and great-nephews including
Marilyn Wilson, Coquitlam; Margaret Cavin, Prince Rupert; and Sandra Odgers, Nanaimo; 7
great-great-nieces and great-great nephews. Born in Belleville, Ontario, Ruby grew up in
Winnipeg and moved to Vancouver in the 1930s. She worked for many years for the Health
Centre for Children in Vancouver, then enjoyed a long retirement filled with travel and
friends. Family and friends will gather to celebrate her life at the University Golf
Club, Vancouver, on Tuesday June 4 from 2-4 p.m. We miss her deeply and will always
remember her. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to BC Children's
Hospital or the Canadian Cancer Society.
CARR _ Colin A _ Passed away peacefully on May 21, 2002 in his 93rd year. He was
predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Charlotte, in 1986. Survived by three sons, Paul
(Sharon), Donald (Helen) and David (Marion); one daughter Jean; six grandchildren; three
great-grandchildren; and sister Alison. Colin worked for many years as a cutter in the
garment industry, was an active member of the ILGWU and a founding member of the Needle
Trades Saving Credit Union. A memorial service, conducted by Pastor Roy Page of the
World Wide Church of God, will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2002 at 2:00 pm at the
Surrey Free Methodist Church, 12371 - 96 Ave., Surrey, BC. No flowers please. Special
thanks to the staff at Brock Farne Pavilion and Dr. Etches for the care they
ENGSTROM _ Kathleen Jean, passed away April 6, 2002 at age 86. Survived by 2 daughters
and friends. Funeral Service at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 28, 2002. Glenhaven Memorial
Chapel, 1835 East Hastings.
DILL _ Charlotte Elva, died in Vancouver on May 23, 2002. Charlotte was born in
Vancouver July 13th 1914. She was predeceased by her parents John and Evangeline, her
sister Viola and brothers Credric and Arnott. She is survived by her three nephews Fred,
John and Peter and their families. Charlotte was a graduate of the University of B.C.
where she obtained a BSc. and a MSc. She went to U. of Toronto to become a Librarian and
worked at the National Research Library in Ottawa for over 35 years, retiring to
Vancouver in 1984. Charlotte in her youth was an avid sailor, who raced Snipes out of
Kitsilano Yacht Club. Her life passion though was photography, a hobby she began as a
child and struggled to continue after suffering a disabling stroke in 1996. She will be
warmly remembered by her family. Private family arrangements.
GUNG _ Connie Lew Seid, passed away suddenly and peacefully in her 80th year on May 13,
2002. Connie was born in Kwongtung Province, China, graduated from Galileo High School
in San Francisco and married Pvt James Seid Gung of the U.S. Army in 1943. After the war
Connie and her husband moved to Richmond, B.C. where they owned and operated James Gung
Men's Wear. A long time resident and active member of the community, especially the
Richmond Ladies Lions Club, she became a friend to all who knew her. A devoted spouse,
mother and grandmother, Connie is survived by Jim, her husband of 58 years; her
daughters Donna, Linda (Mark), Gloria (Chuck); her grandsons Josh, Jeremy, and Benjamin;
her sisters Dottie, Judy, Esther and brother Raymond. Auntie Connie will be remembered
with love and fondness by her many nephews and nieces. She is sadly missed by her
faithful and devoted companion Honey Dog. Family and friends are invited to a memorial
celebration of Connie's life on Saturday, June 1st at 1:00 p.m. at her home, 8171
Bowcock Road, Richmond, B.C. Friends so wishing may make a memorial contribution to
Connie's favorite charity, Easter Seal House, B.C. Lions Society for Children with
Disabilities.
GILDEMEISTER _ Erika passed away May 23, 2002 at the age of 60 years after a short
courageous battle with pneumonia. She was predeceased by her mother, father and two
brothers. Erika is survived by her husband Martin; daughter Helen, and son-in-law David;
son Paul, and daughter-in-law Nicola; and her grandchildren George, Bethany, Matthew,
Cody, Tessa, and Ethan. Erika is also survived by her brothers Erich and Edwin; sisters
Margrete, Melitta and Edith; and many other relatives and loved ones, too numerous to
mention. A visitation will be held Wednesday, May 29 between the hours of 7:00 - 9:00 pm
in the Chapel of Delta Funeral Home, 5329 Ladner Trunk Rd., Delta. A graveside service
will take place on Thursday May 30 at 11:00 am in Boundary Bay Cemetery, Tsawwassen. A
memorial service to follow at 2:00 pm in the Broadway Church, 2700 E. Broadway,
Vancouver. A celebration of Erika's life will follow immediately after the service. The
family would like to thank the Dr's and nurses of Surrey Memorial ICU for their special
care and concern given to the family. In lieu of flowers donations may be given to
Broadway Church for the work of homes for needy children and outreach ministry in

GREB _ Ottilie "Ottie", passed away at her residence in Ridgewood Lodge in Princeton, on
Wednesday, May 22, 2002 at the age of 71 years. Ottie was born in Constantinovka,
Poland, on March 21, 1931, daughter of Joseph and Maria Dorn. After losing her father in
1944, she came to Canada from Germany in 1950, and married her husband Gerhard in 1954.
Ottie spent several years working in a textile mill at the coast, until retiring in 1957
to dedicate herself fully to raising her family with Gerhard. The Grebs relocated to
Princeton 8 years ago. Ottie was known for her love of family, her great cooking, and
for always being a Lady! She will be deeply missed by her husband Gerhard of Princeton,
daughter Karen Dawson and her husband Alan and their children Matthew and Trevor, of
Burnaby, 1 son Ron and his wife Ginny Greb of Powell River, and daughter Linda and her
husband Chris Dumont, also of Burnaby, 1 brother Allen Dorn and his wife Diane of Surrey
and their son Jeff, and 1 sister Elwine Karcher of Victoria. A private family visitation
was held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 24, 2002 at Hansons' Penticton Crematorium, with a
Graveside Service and Interment following at the Princeton Cemetery on Monday, May 27th,

20th, 2002, Jim was 78 years young. Jim is survived by his loving wife Kay, of Langley,
2 daughters Sandra Lynn (Ron Brunet) Vilna Alta; Jane Catherine (Brian Brown Brookswood,
BC. 3 granddaughters; Ashley, Sydney and Michelle Brown. 2 grandsons, Jason Olson
(Sandra) Brookswood, BC. Earl Olson of Cranbrook BC. 2 great grandsons, Devon and Jordan
Olson of Brookswood, BC as well as many nieces and nephews from N.W.T. to Halifax, N.S.
