In Memory of a grandson DUSTIN MARK JONES It has now been a month since you left us but
it only feels like yesterday. Remembering when you were born, the joys of a first
grandchild. We remember the two year old with the shocked expression on his face when
Teddy Ruxpin first spoke to him. We remember Dustin getting his face painted for a
birthday party and getting his beautiful face painted by the pollen in the lilies in the
garden when he tried to smell them. We remember Dustin sliding on a plastic water slide
with a big smile from ear to ear. We remember the young boy who loved to go to the beach
with us and the surprised look the first time you flew a kite by your self. We remember
Dustin reading the newspaper to us at the beach, their was no TV or radio and he didn't
miss them. We remember long walks on the beach with Kami on a long rope. We remember
Dustin at the Cancer Clinic talking to the nurses and asking surprisingly intelligent
questions while watching a chemo treatment been given. We remember the young boy who
went to Scott & Carole's to help set up for their Bar-BQ and then asked if he could
bring his sister. We remember Dustin teasing Scott about his over grown grass on his
garden sidewalk. Scott always thinks of Dustin every time he cuts the grass back and he
knows Dusty would approve. We remember the young man who would assist with the removal
of tree trimmings with his truck. We are sorry you were here for such a short time and
wish you were still with us but you did leave us such fond memories. These are but a
few. We love you and miss you so very much. Grandpa and Pat

JOHNSON Dr. Donald George- taken suddenly on July 11, 2002. Beloved husband of Brenda
devoted father of Erika (Walsh), of Halifax, Michael Johnson of Burnaby and Nichole
(Gerllays) of White Rock. Much loved "Papa" of Katie Doran Walsh and Matthew Nicholas
Gerllays. Survived by his brother Dr. Richard Johnson and family of Brantford, Ontario
and his dear mother, Mrs. Vera Johnson also of Brantford, Ontario. Don loved all things
in life, great or small but his passion was Ophthalmology. Born in Brantford, Ontario,
he moved to B.C. shortly after graduating with a degree in medicine from the University
of Western Ontario in 1969. He completed his residency in Opthalmology at UBC in 1972.
He set up private practice in New Westminster where he continued to practice until his
death. His talent as a gifted surgeon is well known and his accomplishments are too
numerous to mention. One of his proudest moments was opening his surgicentre, a first of
its kind, in 1985. Side by side with his life's partner Brenda, they watched his dream
grow to become what is internationally known as a centre of excellence. It is with
fatherly pride he saw his children join the practice one by one to assist him with his
life's goal. His special working relationship with his son Michael was an immense joy to
him, as was his pride in seeing his son-in-law Mark Walsh, set up his own clinic in
Halifax. His later in life experience of loving and nurturing his daughter Nichole was a
source of continued wonderment and his pride in seeing his daughter Erika become a
wonderful mother to his first grandchild Katie is legendary. When Matthew Nicholas
(little bopper) came along last September his joy was complete to find someone who loved
to scan the Saturday newspapers as much as he did. It is with eternal regret that he
will miss the much anticipated birth of his third grandchild, due in 21/2 weeks. Don was
a modest and humble soul who counted many among his friends. They came from all walks of
life. He was a generous man, beyond belief, who never took measure of any person based
on their lifestyle. He had a gentle, tender heart and was truly compassionate, unable to
stop a tear should he be so fortunate as to receive a simple note of thanks from a
grateful patient. He devoted his life to Ophthamology and will surely continue to guide
from above. It is important to note that Don had nothing but the deepest affection for
all his staff, some of whom have been with him for as many as 16 years. In particular he
would want Dick Bryan to know how much he valued his continued support and loyalty. He
will miss "putting-on-the-greens" with Steve and Wayne. He will be intensely missed by
all who knew and loved him. He will never be forgotten but most of all he will be
remembered every time Brenda hears the rush of an ocean, every time she watches the sun
rise or set and every time she walks the beach at Crescent. Time stood still in 1980
until the sand ran out in 2002. A celebration of Don's life will be held at 11:00 a.m.,
Friday July 19, 2002 at Victory Memorial Park Funeral Centre, 14831-28th Avenue, Surrey,
B.C. "Here's to sandy beaches, golden sunsets and never enough time" We love you Dr. J.
