RAYNER: David John - born August 17, 1980 in Vancouver died suddenly September 21, 2002
in Langley. He is lovingly remembered by his parents Bev and John; brother Simon, 2

from 12:00 to 2:00pm on Friday, September 27 with a funeral service following at

HORNIDGE - MABEL GRACE
(nee Shannon), passed away September 20th, 2002 in Ridge Meadows Hospital. Born in
Vancouver, B.C. April 23rd, 1921 to John and Mabel Shannon. She married W. Leonard
Hornidge in 1939 and as an airforce wife, raised 3 sons. They settled in Maple Ridge in
January 1962. Grace was very active with the Ridge Meadows Hospital Auxiliary, Patient
Care, Fundraising and Visitations. She is lovingly remembered by husband Len, sister
Kay, sons Bob (Deborah), Brian (Sharon) and Bruce (Minnie); 14 grandchildren; and 9
great grandchildren. Grace was a friend to many and a gift from God to all. Memorial
Service Wednesday, September 25th at 2:00 P.M. in the MAPLE RIDGE FUNERAL CHAPEL
(Osborn's), 11969 - 216th Street. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Ridge Meadows

KILIK, Leo John Born in Leduc Alberta, August 27, 1929. Passed away Wednesday September
18, 2002. Leo is survived by three children, daughters: Sherry and Cindy and son Cory,
two grandchildren Kelly and Jesse, two sisters Irene and Deanna. He grew up in Leduc,
Alberta then moved to New Westminster with his family in 1948. Leo operated Star
Cleaners and Dryers for many years. He later started BC Specialities which was a
successful wholesale business. Leo enjoyed fishing, hunting, symhphony music and
ballroom dancing. No service by request. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a
charity of one's choice. A celebration of life for family and friends, will be held at
the Vancouver Golf and Country Club, Coquitlam B.C. from 3 to 5pm. on Wednesday October

SUTHERLAND - Annie (nee Podruchny) Born January 3, 1909, passed away peacefully on
September 21, 2002 at the Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster. Annie was
predeceased by her husband Alexander George Sutherland and grandson Ronald Bruce
Chatwin. Annie is survived by her 2 daughters Lois Jean Chatwin (Jack) and Elspeth Ruth
Lande (Gordon), 10 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 2 great
great-grandchildren. The Service for "Granny" will be held Wednesday, September 25, 2002

CORBETT, Colleen (nee Cassidy) Of Burnaby B.C. passed away on September 16, 2002 after a
brave and courageous battle. Born September 25, 1925 Colleen lived her whole life in
Burnaby. Her husband Gordon passed away in 1997 and she is survived by her daughter
Kathleen and husband KimCarswell, two grandchildren Alana and Graeme, Brother Roy
Cassidy and wife Eileen, 6 nieces and their families. A proud, kind and generous woman
who lived a very unselfish life showed those around her to "take what life gives you".
Her sense of humour, shared especially with her nursing buddies from RCH, gave rise to
many stories always remembered. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any branch

CARTER, James Allan - Born June 19th, 1929 in Yorkton, Saskatchewan. Passed away
unexpectedly on September 17, 2002 at his home in Burnaby. Jim will be lovingly
remembered by his wife Betty; children Sandi (Peter) Luongo, of Surrey, BC, Kent (Amy),
of Beijing, China and Bonnie (Edward) Bach of McLeansville, North Carolina;
grandchildren Mark, Lisa, Paul, Stephanie, Aaron, Brian and Christine; sisters Joyce
Greene and Lois (Glenn) Kolot, nieces and nephews Nelson, Thomas, Andrea and Douglas;
other relatives and close friends. Friends will remembered Jim as an owner/operator of
E.H. Carter and Son in Yorkton, Saskatchewan. He retired to Victoria, and later settled
in Burnaby. A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 23, 2002 at 11:00 a.m.
at Fraser Heights Funeral Home, 14835 Fraser Highway, Surrey. Interment will follow on
Tuesday, September 24, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at Hatley Memorial Gardens in Victoria. If

PROVOST - Noreen, nee Hayton, suddenly but peacefully September 21, 2002, in her home
she loved so much in North Vancouver. Born in Saskatoon 23rd of December 1928, Noreen
moved to Vancouver in her late teens and was employed at Spencer's, Eaton's and B.C.
Tel. On May 2, 1953 she married her soul mate Hector and they enjoyed almost 50 years of
happiness together. Noreen devoted her life to her husband and family and volunteered
her time at St Vincent's Hospital and with Citizens United for Safety and Justice. She
is deeply missed by her loving husband Hector, children Doug (Bev); Sandra (Chris)
Appleby; Shron (Clemens Braun), and Grandchildren: Trevor, Michelle (Chris), Jordon,
Kendra and Alexandra, as well as by other family and close friends. A memorial will be
held at Boal Chapel in North Vancouver, Thursday, September 26, 2002, at 2 pm. Reception

EDWARDS -Margaret Lillian (nee Chamberlain). Born April 1, 1930 in Vancouver, B.C. Died
September 17, 2002 at Lion's Gate Hospital. Predeceased by her husband, Victor and
survived by her five children: Catherine, Elizabeth, Helen, David and Kristine; and her
eight great grandchildren: Rachel and David Huebert; Daniel, William and Matthew
Whitaker; Stephen and Jeffrey Edwards; and Adam Rettinger; and her sister Mary Mann. She
was raised in North Vancouver and graduated from UBC in 1952. She lived in Toronto,
Boston, LA, Montreal and Oakville before returning to the North Shore twenty years ago.
Margaret was an active member of the University Women's Club and the VOC. A reception
will be held for family and friends on Tuesday, September 24, 2002 between 2 and 5 at

NUNN - Gordon Arthur. Late of North Vancouver, passed over on September 19, 2002, at
Lion's Gate Hospital. He was born January 1, 1924 in Vancouver, was a graduate of Magee
Senior Secondary, worked briefly at Boeing Aircraft Company, then enlisted in the
R.C.A.F. for the duration of World War II. He then was employed by Vivian's Machine Shop
for 12 years, after which he worked at the Vancouver Land Titles Office from which he
took early retirement in 1984. He served for several years on the Board of North Shore
Community Credit Union, and latterly on the City Board of Variance. He was predeceased
by his parents and a nephew. Survived by his wife, Olga, of 48 years, brother Harold and
sister-in-law Marie of Nelson, B.C. Many nieces and nephews, and relatives in England
and eastern Canada, and many friends. No funeral by request. Memorial gathering will be
held at a later date. Arrangements for cremation entrusted to the Memorial Society of

WALIA - Valerie Margaret (nee Hagger) of North Vancouver, aged 66, passed away
peacefully September 23, 2002 surrounded by her family. Survived by her husband Rishi,
her daughters Rickilla &Janika, her son-in-laws Karl and Gerald, baby granddaughter Gia,
brothers Richard &Robin and sisters Rosemary and Elizabeth. The family would like to
thank the staff at the BC Cancer Agency of Vancouver, in particular Dr. Karen Gelmon for
their excellent care. A memorial service will be held at First Memorial Funeral Services
at 1505 Lillooet Road in North Vancouver on Thursday September 26, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. In

O'HARA - Mary Ann (ne Boychuk) born August 25, 1929, loving and giving wife, mother,

MCDANIEL, Maurice Roy (Maury)- Born in Regina, Saskatchewan on June 9th, 1931 - Passed
away suddenly in Richmond, British Columbia on September 18th, 2002. Maury McDaniel,
dearly beloved husband of the late Betty. Loving father of Linda and Grant (Mellissa)
and dear grandfather of Nicholas. He will be sadly missed by his brothers, Bernard of
Penticton and Frank of Vancouver, his numerous other relatives and many friends.
Predeceased by his sisters, Mildred and Muriel. Maury was a 35 year employee of Canadian
Pacific Airlines and an active member of the Pionairs Retiree Association. He was an
avid Jazz fan, a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and a member of The Vancouver
Angling and Games Association. Maury had a zest for life and enjoyed it to the fullest.
A Memorial Service will be held in the Chapel of the Richmond Funeral Home, 8420 Cambie
Road, Richmond, B.C. on Saturday September 28th, 2002 at 2:00pm with a reception to
follow. Flowers gratefully declined, rather, a donation in Maury's memory may be made to
the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the B.C. Cancer Agency.
