CHAMPION _ Doris (Ruth), born February 13, 1931 in England, longtime resident of PoCo,
passed away September 16, 2002 in Grand Forks. She will be sadly missed by husband Bill;
son Bill Jr; daughter Jane and their families.

GORRIE _ Doreen Mabel of South Surrey, passed away September 23, 2002 at Peace Arch
Hospital with husband Jack at her side. She leaves 3 children, Wendy Douglas, Kim McKay
of Grand Forks and Don Gorrie of Victoria, 2 grandchildren Jake McKay of Delta and
Keegan Douglas, nieces Lorrie and Bev of Seattle and Norma Bertrand of Edmonton, as well
as sister Vi Hague of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Cremation and burial at Victory Memorial
Park Cemetery, no service by request. Thanks to Dr. Bourke and Dr. Gayton and the
hospital staff on 5th floor and 6th floor who took very good care of Doreen. Victory

ULRICH _ Vivian June (nee Small) passed away peacefully on September 24th, 2002 at the
age of 71. Survived by her loving family son Brian (Cynthia); daughter Susan (Tony);

WILKE _ Lee, born Jan. 25th, 1961, passed away Sept. 21, 2002 in Vancouver, B.C.
Predeceased by his grandma and his great grandma. Lee is survived by his wife, Donna
Harrison, and three children Sheldon, Nicole and Melissa, brothers Gerald, Bill and

LAW Brian Edward Travers Born in Montreal on February 21, 1936, moved to Culver City,
California in 1959 then to B.C. in 1965. Lived in Thornhill, Maple Ridge, Hatzic Lake
and Chilliwack Brian succumbed to his bout with cancer on September 25, 2002 and has
finally gone home to his maker. Brian was predeceased by his grandson Brian Little of
Chilliwack in 1996. Brian will be greatly missed by his wife Joan, son Wayne (Sharon) of
Maple Ridge, daughter Cheryl (Chuck) Little of Chilliwack, son Chris of Mission and
daughter Debbie (Bart) Dennis of Nova Scotia. 2 granddaughters Tania Law of Maple Ridge,
Amy Little of Chilliwack and five grandsons Tyler Law of Maple Ridge, Alex and Jake Law
of Mission and Joshua & Cody Dennis of Nova Scotia. Brothers Richard (Sylvia) Law of
Abbotsford, Allen (Ruth) Law of Quebec, Garry (Farrell) Law of Nova Scotia and sisters
Lois of Pierrefonds, Quebec and Vivian (Len) Dawson of Lasalle, Quebec and step-sister
Doreen (Gordie) Parker of Calgary, Alberta and many nieces, nephews and many friends.
Brian was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to all. An
avid golfer and hobby carpenter. A great song leader at the services of the Chilliwack
Church of Christ. Brian worked for Sherwin Williams Paints in Montreal from 1950-1959.
Retired from B.C. Provincial Corrections in 1988 after 22 years of service. Brian was
the President of the Haney Rotary Club 1984-1985. Former member of the Rainbow Men of
Harmony. A member of the B.C. Government Retired Employees Association and an ordinary
member of the Maple Ridge Branch #88 of the Royal Canadian Legion for 38 years. Memorial
Service will be held by members of the Chilliwack Church of Christ at the First Avenue
Christian Assembly building, 46510 First Avenue, Chilliwack, B.C. on Tuesday, October 1,
2002 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers if you so desire, donations to the Palliative Care

WHITLUM, Evelyn Pearl (Sue) Born October 15, 1931, passed away September 20, 2002 at
Vancouver General Hospital. Beloved daughter of Charles and Margretha Nielsen. She
leaves to mourn and cherish her memory, her husband of 49 years Ken, her daughters Lori
and Lynda; grandchildren Jamie and Terin, son in-law James. In lieu of flowers,

TONSAKER Ralph Clifford Passed away at Delta Hospital on Monday, September 23, 2002
after a lengthy illness. Ralph was born June 30, 1909 on a homestead near Chatfield,
Manitoba and resided in Chatfield and Winnipeg for many years until moving to Tsawwassen
15 years ago. Predeceased by his parents Henry and Clara, brother Charlie, sisters Lily
Johnson and Edna Giroux and their spouses. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 61
years, Millie daughter Beryl Prokop (Bill); Granddaughters Cori Singleterry (Cliff),
Michelle Hirst, Catherine Rolheiser (Eric) and special great-grandchildren Claire and
Graeme Hirst and Rylee and Rachel Singleterry. Ralph is also survived by his brother
Norman (Ivy) of Winnipeg and many nieces and nephews. Ralph was a member of King Edward
Lodge in Wpg. and always very proud to have been a founding member of the Chatfield
Old-times Group. Thank you to Dr. H. Hollinger for his special care of Ralph and a
special thanks to all the staff at the Delta Hospital for their extra care, concern and

PENNEY Charles Clement (Clem) Dec 5, 1919 - Sept 13, 2002 Died from complications of
cancer at the TCU Ridge Meadows Hospital, September 13, 2002. Clem leaves his wife Ann
Morgan and his daughters Heather Penney of Ottawa and Sharon Ford of Windermere. He also
leaves his grandchildren Scott, Ryefield, Adam, Tara and Ian. He will be missed by the
Morgan family children Janet of Vancouver, Jeannine of Maple Ridge and John of Toronto
and grandchildren Christopher, Sara., Sara, Sian and Julian. He is fondly remembered by
brother Lloyd, sisters Hazel, Myrtle, Thelma, MaryLou and his nephews Wayne and Bob. He
wil be missed by friends and neighbours at the Ridge Meadows Strata. Special thanks to
the nursing staff at TCU Ridge Meadows Hospital and Dr. Kevin Sommi for thier assistance

MELLS - Mary Ruthven (1922-2002). It is with great sadness that we announce the passing
of Ruth Mells quietly at home on September 25, 2002 after a valiant and dignified
struggle with cancer. Ruth is remembered lovingly by her husband Richard (Dick) Mells,
her sons Barry (Wendy) and Brent (Kaete) Fowlie, her daughter Carol (Dennis) Kirkwood,
her grandchildren Ryan Palethorpe and Ashley Kirkwood, and her sister Isabelle Falkins.
She will be fondly remembered by many other relatives and friends as a gracious hostess
and a loyal and trusted friend. Ruth was an enthusiastic officer of the Eastern Star and
loved to work on their many committees devoted to finding a cure or alleviating the
suffering of cancer. Ruth was a patron and supporter of the performing arts and an
enthusiastic member of Eldercollege at Capilano College. We express our gratitude to the
Palliative Care Team, especially Barbara Boyce and to Dr. Doug McTaggart. Friends are
invited to a memorial service at the Boal Chapel, 1505 Lillooet Road, North Vancouver on

COWLEY - Joan M. (nee Gould) of West Vancouver. Passed away peacefully at Capilano Care
Centre on September 21, 2002 at the age of 85. She was predeceased by her brother Harry
and sisters Kathleen and Stella. She is survived and missed by nieces Wendy Hamblin and
Brenda Offenbacher, nephews Ian Pratt and Allan Gould, and her stepson, Peter Cowley.

REITSMA - Sjoerd passed away suddenly on September 6, 2002, at the age of 36, in West
Vancouver, B.C. Sjoerd is survived by his wife of 11 years, Alexandria age 33; and his
three young children: two daughters, Britannia age 7, Jane Portia Age 4, and his son
Robbie, Age 6, of North Vancouver, B.C. Sjoerd was a loving father and husband. Sjoerd
was born March 17, 1966 in the Hague, Holland. He was married Feb. 17, 1991 in Regina,
Saskatchewan. Sjoerd worked as a Computer Programmer at Clerigo Solutions and a
Coordinator at COHO Management. He received his Masters of the Arts in Latin American
Languages and Cultures from Leiden University in 1990. Sjoerd enjoyed teaching and
playing with his three children and was a wonderful father. His warm smile and sparkling
blue eyes will be greatly missed. Sjoerd spoke six languages. He loved to travel, read,
study maps, play chess, and watching World Cup Soccer, his favorite club team was Ajax.
He loved animals and birds. His favorite desert was apple crumble. Sjoerd ran his first
Vancouver Sun Run in 2002 and regularly hike the Grouse Grind.The last family trip was
to the Cannon Beach, Oregon on Sept 1, 2002. He was honorable, fair, tolerant, an
environmentalist and a gentleman, which in itself is a success. The family will always
remember him smiling and making Britannia, Robbie, and Portia laugh and the children
running to greet him as he came home from work. He took care of us. We all will miss him
greatly. A memorial services was held September 13, 2002 at Bridge Community Church in
North Vancouver with Pastor Jamey McDonald officiating. Sjoerd was a member of the West
Vancouver United Church. A portion of the ashes will be spread at Lynn Cannon
Headwaters, one of the family's favorite hiking trails. The remaining ashes will be
buried at a graveside gathering, TBA, at Gillis Cemetary, Lynden, Washington. In lieu of

YOUNGASH Roland Harvey, White Rock, B.C., passed away September 22, 2002 in Ocean View
Care Home. Born in Vancouver, in 1917, he was the son of the late Reginald and Edith
Youngash. Roland was a veteran of WWII, having served overseas in Holland and England.
He re-enlisted in the RCAF in 1950, retiring in 1967 and then worked for the Solicitor
General of Canada and the BC Attorney General's Department until 1977. Beloved husband
of Phyllis; devoted father of Alan (Vickie Ann), Ronald, Shirley (Hal), Mark (Penny) and
Eric (Shery); loving grandfather of Christopher, Lori, Karly, Gary, Tristin, Gavin,
Shannon and Tyson and great-grandfather of Austin, Avery and Lucas. He is pre-deceased
by his sisters Edna and Marjorie and was a dear uncle to Wayne, Dale, Clifford and
David. The family greatly appreciates the care and attention that was given by the staff
of Harmony Health Care, Christina Place Seniors Residence, the Peace Arch Hospital and
the Ocean View Care Home. He was the essence of the family man! A celebration of
