The Province notes the following deaths in today's CUMMINGS ERTNER-HOFFMANN HART
MONTALBANO
CUMMINGS _ Minnie passed away at the Chinook Care Centre, Calgary, Alberta on Wednesday,
February 26, 2003 at the age of 98 years. She will be lovingly remembered by many nieces
and nephews as well as a large circle of relatives and friends. Minnie was a long time
resident of Rebekah Lodge and enjoyed traveling, dancing and bowling. She was
predeceased by her husband Alexander in 1971 and six brothers and six sisters. A special
thank you to Dr. Kelly Young as well as the staff at the Chinook Care Centre. A Funeral
Service will be held at First Memorial Funeral Services, 240 - 17 Avenue S.W., Calgary
on Tuesday, March 04, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. with interment to follow at Queen's Park
Cemetery. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made directly to the charity

ERTNER-HOFFMAN _ Eva passed away peacefully at home on February 28, 2003. Eva was
predeceased by her her first husband Alexander Ertner on May 2, 1995. She will be sadly
missed by her loving husband Alexander Hoffman; children Otto (Elize), Bruno (Sharon)
and daughter-in-law Lynda Campbell; step-children, Ernie (Frieda), Mike (Violet) and
Anita (Victor); 6 grandchildren, John, James, Karen, Jeffrey, Kimberley and Richard;
great-grandchildren and many other family members. A loving appreciation is extended to
the friends and care providers who so lovingly took care of Eva. In lieu of flowers
doantions may be made to the Martin Luther Evangelical Lutheran Church, 505 East 46th
Avenue, Vancouver.

HART _ Jean Anne Hart (nee Raham), beloved mother of Tara and Sha-nonn, died suddenly
the morning of February 16, 2003. Lovingly remembered by her close knit family in
Niagara Falls.

MONTALBANO _ Salvatore, passed away, Thursday, February, 27, 2003 with family by his
side. He was in his 76th year and is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Francesca;
daughter, Susanna (Bernard) Darnel; son, John; granddaughter, Alannah and grandson
Michael. He is also survived by a brother, Franscesco in Milan; sister, Giuseppa in
Calatafimi. Salavatore spent 20 years working as a miner and 10 years with BC Hydro.
Prayers will be recited at 7:30 p.m., Monday, March 3rd, 2003 at Corpus Christi Church
with the Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 4, 2003. Entombment will follow at
the Abbey Mausoleum, Ocean View Burial Park, 4000 Imperial Street, Burnaby. In lieu of
flowers, donations in Salvatore's memory may be made to the British Columbia Lung
Association. "Salvatore, we will miss you but, you will forever be in our Hearts."

JEAL Mei-Lin passed away into the presence of the Lord on February 21st at the age of
85. She is survived by her husband, Frank, and his daughter, Eleanor and many friends in
Abbotsford and Vancouver. She was a godly women; she had a sharp and lively wit, and she
was great fun to be withshe will be missed. A memorial service will be held at Calvin
Presbyterian Church on Friday, February 28th at 2 P.M. In lieu of flowers, donations to
any of her favorite charities, e.g. her church, The Vancouver S.P.C.A., The Vancouver
General, or St. Paul's Hospitals, The Salvation Army, Vancouver, are appreciated.

WILLIAM (BILL) CLARE May 26, 1909-February 23, 2003 William (Bill) Clare was born May
26, 1909 in Wolsly, Saskatchewan. He married Peggy (Constable) on November 4, 1934 and
moved to Vancouver and later to a farm on Annis Road, Chilliwack, B.C. Bill later worked
for the Corporation of Chilliwack where he retired. Predeceased by his wife Peggy in
1988, brother Jim Clare and sister Gladys Turnbull. Survived by his three children;
Doreen (Greg) Merritt of Merritt, B.C., Gladys (George) Milan of Westbank, B.C. and
Wendy (Darlene) Clare of Winnipeg, Manitoba; sisters Margaret Stromaheir of Chilliwack,
B.C. and Doris Needham of England. Nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one
great great-grandchild. Bill will be sadly missed by all his family and friends. In lieu
of flowers donations to the Gillis House Auxiliary would be greatly appreciated. A
Memorial Tea will be held at 9715 Mamit Lake Road, Saturday March 1, 2003 at 2:00p.m.

McCONAGHY - L.J. (CHRIS) June 14, 1932 Feb 21 2003 Taken from us suddenly and much too
soon, while on vacation with the "group of seven" visiting his best friend Peter and
Family. Survived by his Son Arthur/Chuggy (Audrey) and his Daughter Sue (Jack) and his
three biggest fans, his Grandchildren Amber, Ryan and Ethan. He will be deeply missed by
many family and friends all over BC, Canada and abroad. Chris was warm and generous, he
built boats and loved the sea. He sold hardwoods for J. Fyfe Smith Co. and loved to
visit his boat-building customers. He knew the history of many boats up and down the
west coast. He shared his talents for carving, building furniture and renovating with
many friends and family. His beautiful carvings carry our loving memories of him. Chris
was a man Who walked softly on this earth his passing leaves a large void in those that
loved him. Dad, Granddad, Friend, gone from this earth but never our hearts. Service
will be held Monday March 3rd, 1:00pm Benediction Lutheran Church 5575 6th Ave.

HYDE - Claire Louise. Passed away on February 23, 2003 in Delta. Predeceased by husband
Robert Hyde and son Werner Siegmund. Our loving Mother, Grandmother and Great

daughterin-law Shirley Siegmund, sister Mia Cardeli and family in the USA. Grandchildren

KURAN Isabel (Shanks) passed away peacefully after a brief illness in Ridge Meadows
Hospital on February 18, 2003. She was born November 3, 1919 in Belfast, Northern
Ireland. She will be missed by her husband Victor, daughter Linda Western (John), son
David (Virginia) and grandchildren Allen, Jessica, and Matthew as well as family and
friends in Winnipeg and Ontario. A celebration of her life will be held on Monday, March
3, 2003 at 2:00 P.M. at Burnett Fellowship Baptist Church, 20639-123 Avenue, Maple

MCKAY - Edward (known as Teddy or Ed). Passed away February 26, 2003. Born in Toronto on
December 6, 1913. Lived on the North Shore from age 5. Worked at Burrard Dry Dock from
age 15. Predeceased by his wife Jean (March 1988) and most of his brothers and sisters.
Survived by his loving family, sister Mary, and children Edward, Michael, David (Nancy),
Heather (John), Leslie (Roger), and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Special
thanks to everybody at Lynn Valley Care Center, Lions Gate Hospital, and Theresa, Betty,
and Rita for their kind loving care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lynn
Valley Care Center. By request a service will be held for family members only. A
celebration of Ted's life will be held at the Fraternity Order of the Eagles, 170 West
3rd St, North Vancouver, on Friday, March 7, 2003 at 3:30 5:30 p.m.
REID, Ivy May (nee Chapman) passed away peacefully on Saturday evening February 22, 2003
at the age of 82. Lovingly remembered by her husband of 63 years, Ozzie. Cherished and
much loved by her children Terry, Heather Storey (Les) and Roberta Versteeg (Brian) and
by her grandchildren Katherine, Jessica, Patrick, Kimberley, Chris and Nicole. She also
leaves behind some long and dear friends. Predeceased by her brother Bert and her
sisters Lillian, Nellie and Audrey - Ivy was the last of her clan. She was a wonderful
mother, a caring Noni and a good friend. Her passing will leave a hole in all our
hearts. Many thanks to the kind nurses and Physiotherapist Roxanne at Lions Gate
Hospital and to Dr. Nancy Crossen for being there for us everyday. There wlll be no
service as requested. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations may be made to the charity

February 24, 2003 at the age of 89 years. Predeceased by her two sisters, Gertrude and

(Carole), Robert (Lis); seven grandchildren Kassan, Melanie, Katherine, Haley, Dan,
