BARAN _ Alexander born November 20, 1910 on a homestead near Preeceville Saskatchewan,
passed away on February 27 to join his beloved wife Irene, several brothers, sisters and
many close friends. He went in peace with a clear mind and light heart surrounded by his
two sons and family. Alex will be missed by all who were lucky enough to know him.
Service will be held at the Arbor Chapel, Valley View Memorial Gardens, 14660 72nd
Avenue, Surrey, on Tuesday, March 4 at 2 pm.
CROWLEY _ Marianne Dixon passed away unexpectedly February 28, 2003 in Vernon, BC. Born
in New Westminster in 1934, she was the only child of the late James and Mary Ellen
"Nell" (nee Phelan) Crowley. Marianne was a very caring and much loved niece of Jack
Phelan, Marion and George Miller and Mary Phelan, all of New Westminster. She is also
survived by many cousins in BC. Funeral Services to be held Tuesday, March 4 in Vernon,
BC.
DELMO _ Frances Bernadette passed away February 23, 2003 at Langley Memorial Hospital.
She is lovingly remembered and survived by her children: Richard (Liz), Cheryl (Wes),
Tracy (Janice), Paul (Elizabeth), Edith (Lawrence), Laura, and Michelle (Rob);
grandchildren Tanya, Bobby, Tyler, Mary, Shawntel, Sonja, Sharon, Dylan, Bryanna,
Michaela and Sarah; and seven great-grandchildren. A Graveside Memorial will be held
March 4th at 2pm at Victory Memorial Park - 14831 28th Ave, Surrey, BC.
ERTNER-HOFFMANN _ Eva passed away peacefully at home on February 28, 2003. Eva was
predeceased by her first husband Alexander Ertner on May 2, 1995. She will be sadly
missed by her loving husband Alexander Hoffmann; children Otto (Elize), Bruno (Sharon)
and daughter-in-law Lynda Campbell; step-children, Ernie (Frieda), Mike (Violet) and
Anita (Victor); 6 grandchildren, John, James, Karen, Jeffrey, Kimberley and Richard;
great-grandchildren and many other family members. A loving appreciation is extended to
the friends and care providers who so lovingly took care of Eva. In lieu of flowers
donations may be made to the Martin Luther Evangelical Lutheran Church, 505 East 46th
Avenue, Vancouver.

HUT _ Heine was taken to be with his Lord on February 28, 2003 in Abbotsford at the age
of 89 years. He was born in Doezum, the Netherlands, January 12, 1914. He was
predeceased by his loving wife Teresa in March 2000, and his grandson Howard Kingma in
1991. He leaves to mourn his loving children, Anke Kingma (Andy), Henry Hut (Alida), Nel
Croft (Gary), Wilma Faber (Ted), Sylvia Griffioen (Nol), Evelyn Floris (Simon). Also
leaves one sister, Wietske Gjaltema in Pitt Meadows. Opa will be greatly missed by his
18 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service and Celebration of his
life will be held March 4, 2003 at 12:30 pm at the Gateway Community Christian Reform
Church, 1951 McCallum Road, Abbotsford, B.C. The family would like to extend a heart
felt thanks to all the nurses and staff of the Dialysis Unit in Abbotsford for the
wonderful loving care that was given to our Dad. Donations in Heine's memory to the

JACKSON _ Louise (Akin), passed away February 28, 2003, at the age of 86. Born August
25, 1916 in Heavener, Oklahoma, Louise earned her B.Sc. at Oklahoma A & M in Stillwater,
before coming to Canada with her husband Paul. Louise was active in the University
Women's Club, Shaughnessy Heights United Church and the Rhododendron Society. In 1973
she completed a diploma in Adult Education (Art Therapy) at UBC. Her love of painting
and gardening touched the lives of many. Louise was predeceased by her husband Paul in
2000, and is survived by her sister, Irene Powell (Missouri); daughters, Margaret Taylor
and Mary Lou Waite (Mark); son, David; grandchildren, Stephen Taylor, Peter Taylor
(Areli), Catherine Waite and great-grandchildren, Kaelen and Jarvis Taylor. Many thanks
to the staff of Chalmers Lodge, UBC Hospital and Heather Pavilion at VGH. In accordance
with Louise's wish, a private family service will be held at Shaughnessy Heights United

JARVIS _ Richard Stanley (Big Rich) born in Richmond, BC on February 24, 1947 died at
home Thursday, February 27, 2003. Taken from us suddenly at the young age of 56 he
departed much too soon. Richard will always be remembered for his long time commitment
to Marine Garage in Steveston, BC. Along with Ben, his business partner of 32 years,
many a day had been spent working and socializing with good friends and customers. He
generously shared his wisdom and giving spirit with everyone he touched. Richard's love
of cars, especially Italian Sports cars was a large part of his life. He spent his spare
time restoring unique cars, enjoying sports and many fun filled fishing trips with good
friends. Predeceased by his father, Stanley. Richard will be sadly missed by his mother,
Heidy; sisters, Marilyn Wade (George), Jo-Ann MacPhail (Murray), Christine Mills (Tom);
brother Alan (Gitte); aunt Bea, aunt Mary, uncle Mark; nieces, nephews, grand nephew,
cousins, a large extended family, relatives and many friends. Funeral Service will be
held at Gilmore Park United Church, 8060 No.1 Road, Richmond, at 1 pm. For those who
wish to say good-bye, there will be a viewing from 12pm -1pm before service commences.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or BC
Children's Hospital.
LADD _ Edna Mae (nee Izzard) born in Regina, Saskatchewan, August 5, 1923. Passed away
peacefully on February 28, 2003 at the age of 79. Although she will be sadly missed by
her loving family, they take comfort in knowing that she has now joined her devoted
husband, Wendell, who predeceased her in 1996. Edna will be forever remembered and loved
by her children, Marie, Ken (Fay), Evelyn (Steve), Doug (Sherry); nine grandchildren and
one great-grandchild. She is also survived by her loving sisters, Ina and Florence and
predeceased by her brothers, Bob and Al. In addition Edna will be missed by her
brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and many friends. A Memorial will be
held on Saturday, March 8 at 1:30 pm at White Rock Baptist Church, 1657 140th Street,
White Rock. A reception will follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, a donation to a
charity of your choice would be appreciated.
McKENZIE _ Virginia (nee Breffit), born March 11, 1915, in Minneapolis, Minnesota,
resident of 4534 Langara Avenue, Vancouver, passed away peacefully at UBC Hospital, on
February 25, 2003. She was predeceased by husband Alexander McKenzie, in February of
1988. She is survived by daughters Susan Moats and Nancy Maxcy, by grandchildren Sarah
Maxcy, Katherine Maxcy, Rachael Maxcy, Adam Maxcy, Miriam Maxcy, Susannah Maxcy,
Stephanie Maxcy, and Tony Roberts, and granddaughter-in-law Joanne Roberts, all of
Vancouver. She cherished her friends, and was the matriarch of the family. She made the
acquaintance of many while working at the Purdys on Granville (50s), the UBC Golf Club
(50s), the Odeon, Fraser, Dunbar, Varsity, and Park theatres (60s 80s). In her honour,
donations may be made to the Salvation Army.
MONTALBANO _ Salvatore, passed away, Thursday, February, 27, 2003 with family by his
side. He was in his 76th year and is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Francesca;
daughter, Susanna (Bernard) Darnel; son, John; granddaughter, Alannah and grandson
Michael. He is also survived by a brother, Francesco in Milan; and sister, Giuseppa in
Calatafimi. Salvatore spent 20 years working as a miner and 10 years with BC Hydro.
Prayers will be recited at 7:30 p.m., Monday, March 3rd, 2003 at Corpus Christi Church
with the Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 4, 2003. Entombment will follow at
the Abbey Mausoleum, Ocean View Burial Park, 4000 Imperial Street, Burnaby. In lieu of
flowers, donations in Salvatore's memory may be made to the British Columbia Lung
Association. "Salvatore, we will miss you, but you will forever be in our Hearts."
ORLIKOWSKI _ Hedwig, "Orli", passed away on February 29, 2003, in her 98 year.
Predeceased by husband Johan. Lovingly remembered by her son Gerhard (Helga) and
granddaughter Connie (Carson) and many friends. Funeral Service will be held in First
Memorial Funeral Chapel, 602 Kingsway, (1 block west of Fraser) Vancouver, on Wednesday,
March 5, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. Interment to follow the service at Ocean View Burial Park in
Burnaby. A special thank you to the staff at the German Canadian Care Home. In lieu of
flowers, donations may be made in Orli's memory to the German Canadian Care Home.
OTSUKI _ Tamotsu Otsuki of Surrey, B.C., passed away peacefully on February 26, 2003 at
the age of 88 years. He is survived by his loving family: son Harry (Chiyoko); daughter,
Margaret (John). He was predeceased by his wife Teruye in September 2002. A funeral
service will be held on Thursday, March 6 at 2:30 p.m. from the chapel of THE ARBOR
CENTER at Valley View Memorial Gardens (14660 - 72nd Avenue, Surrey). Interment and
reception to follow.
SCOTT _ Devinn. On Wednesday, February 26, 2003, Devinn aged 26 passed away peacefully
surrounded by family. He will be sadly missed by his mother, Sharon Poitras; his
brother, Dorian; Carmen, Ken, Danica and Chad; his grandmother, Deana; aunts, Marie,
Betty, Edna; his uncles, Wil, Vic and Gil and numerous cousins and friends. Much thanks
to the staff of St. Paul's Hospital. A private ceremony for Devinn will be held for
family and friends. Donations to Dr. Peter Centre Foundation would be appreciated.
TAYLOR _ Janet (Netta, nee ROBERTSON): Feb 27, 2003 in her 88th year; predeceased by
husband George & brother Bob; survived by son Drew, brother Bill & sister Mollie (Bob).
Born in Coupar Angus, Scotland, Netta spent her early years in Anyox & on 'The Heights'
in Burnaby, followed by RCAF-WD service at Rockcliffe and Lethbridge and 50 active years
at Ryerson United Church. She taught preschool at Alex House and Pendrell and spent
happy summers at Pt Roberts. Loved by many, her infectious smile will be missed by all.
Thanks to the special people on 3-North and at Minoru. Memorial service at Ryerson, W.
45th & Yew, on Wednesday, March 5 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to

WALSH _ A. Gerard, P.Eng., formerly of St. John's Nfld., passed away peacefully on
February 28, 2003 at St. Paul's Hospital, Vancouver, B.C. Predeceased by his loving wife
of 44 years, G. Maureen (nee Moore), his parents Sir Albert J. and Lady Winifred Walsh.
Leaving to mourn his son Albert J., daughter Anne F. and her son Albert Cho of
Vancouver, son Gerard K. and his wife Jacqueline and their children Connor and Janae of
Plano, Tx., and son Brian G. also of Vancouver. Brothers Dr. Michael J. Walsh (wife
Bernadette) of Barrie, Ont., and Dr. Kevin F. Walsh (wife Louise) of St. John's, Nfld.
Sisters-in-law Mary Costello, and Vivian Squires (husband Frank ) both of St. John's,
and brother-in-law Joseph Moore (wife Peggy) of Mount Pearl, Nfld. Special thanks to the
excellent teams at St Paul's Palliative Care Unit for their professionalism and caring.

WEE _ Liang Aow, passed away February 27, 2003, 61 years of age. Survived by family and
