ADDISON _ Grace Lorraine on February 23, 2003 in her 86th year from a renal failure at
Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital in Burlington, Ontario. Dear wife of the late William
Kellock (Bill) Addison. Dearly beloved wife of the late Gilbert Arthur Stratton. Loving
and much loved mother of Douglas Wymark Stratton of Toronto. Cremation has taken place
with burial at St. Jude's Cemetery, Oakville, Ontario. To honour her memory, donations
to the charity of your choice in the name of "Amazing" Grace Addison would be sincerely
appreciated

AMMETER _ Peacefully on March 1, 2003, Mary of Surrey, BC, with her granddaughter
Carolyn by her side, went to be with her Lord. Left to cherish her memory are her
granddaughter Carolyn, her husband John Nichol and great-granddaughters, Alexandra,
Natasha and Ashlyn. Mary is survived by her sisters, Alice, Rose, Mina (Doug) Johnson,
Edith (Don) Besant and one brother, John Ammeter, all of Manitoba. She was predeceased
by her husband Fritz; son Walter; daughter-in-law Kay; sisters, Martha, Hulda, Anna,
Bertha; brothers, Adolph and Ernest; and her parents, John and Emma Ammeter. Mary was
born in Karabulach, Georgia on November 29, 1906. She went to live in Switzerland and
France, then immigrated to Canada in 1930. Upon the passing of her daughter-in-law Kay,
Mary moved from Manitoba to BC to help raise her granddaughter Carolyn. A memorial
service will be held at First Lutheran Church, 5745 Wales Street, Vancouver on Friday,
March 14, 2003 at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mary's memory to
the First Lutheran Memorial Fund. The family would like to thank the staff at Morgan
Place who cared so well for Mary over the last few years.

ARENEDA _ Fredrick Sr. "Freddie" Miguel passed away on February 28, 2003. He was born on
December 14, 1933. Freddie is survived by his children Bob (Sheila), Charlotte (Brian),
Fred Jr. (Adrienne), Peter (Christine), Jerry, Joseph, Frances (Jerry), 19 grandchildren
and 8 great-grandchildren Many loving relatives and dear friends. A Prayer Service will
be held at St. Paul's Indian Catholic Church on March 6, 2003 (Thursday) at 7:30 p.m. A
Funeral Service will be held on March 7, 2003 (Friday) at 10:30 a.m. A luncheon will
follow immediately after the service at the Squamish Nation Rec. Centre, 100 Capilano
Road, North Vancouver, BC.

BAKER _ Walter James On March 3rd, 2003, Walter James Baker of Edson, Alberta, beloved
husband of Joan passed away at the age of 74 years. Besides his loving wife Joan, Walter
is survived by his children: son, Ken and wife Karen Baker of Hinton, Alberta and their
children, Bobbi of Goldbridge, BC and Kelsey and Kirsten, both at home; daughter Brenda
(Ron) Peterson of Edson, Alberta and their children, Angela and husband Stephen Nykyfork
and their daughter Teagan, and Crystal Peterson and Easton Peterson, at home; Bill and
wife Barb Baker, their daughters Veda Baker and her son Brayden, Nicole Baker, all of
Penticton, BC; son Pat Baker of Edson, Alberta, son Cody and wife Stacey Baker of
Hinton, Alberta and daughter Tammy Baker and her son Tyrell of Andrew, Alberta. Walter
is also survived by his brother Robert Baker of Edmonton; numerous nieces, nephews,
other relatives and a host of friends. Walter was predeceased by his parents Henry and
Marie Baker, as well as brothers and sisters Bill Baker, Doris Rimmer, Gladys
deChamplain, Don Baker, June Baker and Patsy Baker. In keeping with Walter's wishes,
there will be no formal funeral service. An open house memorial will be held on
Saturday, March 8, 2003, between the hours of 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. at the home of Pat
Baker. In Edson, take Edson Drive (51 Street and 4th Ave, Highway 16), one block west of
lights, turn north at FasGas, follow Edson Drive to Highway 748 toward Whitecourt and
proceed to East Crossing Road. Turn right on East Crossing Road to 2nd driveway on the

BECK _ Jessie passed away peacefully after a long struggle, on Tuesday, March 4, 2003 at
the age of 89. Jessie will be sadly missed by her children, Marlene (Don), Gary,
grandchildren, Steve, Sherri, Kerry and Krista, 4 great-grandchildren, Alexa, Colin,
Kyle and Nathan, brother Roger and sister Beth, many other family and friends. A special
thanks to Zion Park Manor for their loving care given to Jessie. A celebration of
Jessie's life will be held on Sunday, March 9, 2003 from 2-6pm at the home of Marlene.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Arthritis Association would be greatly appreciated
in Jessie's memory.

BILLY _ Brenda Bertha was born November 16, 1965. She died on March 2, 2003. Brenda will
be sadly missed by her mother Lorna Williams, her children Rosanne (Norm), Leslie (Ben),
Clint and Dereck, her spouse Jerry Phillips, her sisters Caroline (Gordon), Lorraine,
Colleen Joseph (Chester), Charlene (Jim), her brothers Brent (Eva), Brendan and Kirk

Way, Garbaldi Highlands, BC on Saturday March 8, 2003 at 7:00 pm. A funeral service will

BROUGH _ Jean (nee Garnham) passed away peacefully at the Nanaimo Regional General
Hospital on March 2, 2003 at the age of 81. Jean was born in Burlington, Ontario. Jean
was predeceased by her husband Joe of 44 years and brother Stan Garnham. Jean is
survived by her son Robert; daughter Rela; three grandsons, Michael, Matthew, Kiley and
one great-grandson Nicholas; niece Laura Jane and two nephews Chris and Keith. A
Memorial Service will be held at First Memorial Funeral Services, 1720 Bowen Road,
Nanaimo on Friday, March 7, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made

BROWN _ Evelyn Mabel died peacefully in the morning of March 3rd, 2003. She ws
predeceased by her loving husband Jimmy and she will be much missed by her sister-in-law
Diana Brown and her nieces and nephews: Diana, Ted, Jim, Stephanie, Hugh and Linda. The
family wish to express their sincere thanks to the staff of Dogwood Lodge for their

DEAN _ James has joined his mother Helen and his granddaughter Ashley Helen Olson in the
garden. After a gallant five year battle against cancer his exuberant love for life and
outstanding personality will be cherished by all who knew him and loved him. He is
lovingly remembered by his wife, Susan Dean; daughter, Selina Dean; and his grown
children and families; son, Elliot Dean; grandson, Ryan James Dean; granddaughters,

DUKE _ Kaye (Sonia), a longtime Vancouver resident, passed away peacefully on March 2,
2003. Survived by 1 brother, Nick (Jessie) Duk of Vegreville, AB; 1 sister, Anne Tymchuk
of Edmonton, AB; half brothers and sisters, Mike (Nancy) Duke, Julian (Emily) Duke of
Vegreville, AB, Mary Kachmar, Edward (Darlene) Duke of Edmonton, AB, Elizabeth (Adam)

FLATHER _ Dr. Barrie passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 5, 2003 at the age of 70.
Barrie will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 19 years, Lilly, his children, Tammy
(Neil), Graham (Leah), Michael (Lisa), Jeffery, Catherine, Kevin, three grandsons,
Bryce, Riley and Ethan, his Aunt Hazel McQuat and many other family and friends. A
special thanks to the palliative care nurses at Surrey Memorial Hospital and to Dr.
Michael Riesling for all his care and support. A funeral service will be held on
Saturday, March 8, 2003, 1:00 p.m. at Cloverdale United Church, 17575 - 58A Ave.,
Surrey, interment to follow at Valley View Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers,

GOJEVIC _ Eileen Brenda passed away peacefully, at home on March 4, 2003. Eileen, born
in England on April 19, 1953, brought sunshine into the lives of her family, colleagues
and all that came in contact with her. Eileen was pre-deceased by her father Pero
Gojevic. She is survived by her husband Barrie MacFadden and his three daughters, Megan,
Erin and Fiona; her two sons Bryan and Devan Pudney; her mother Kathleen Sandford; 11
sisters and brothers - Helena Campbell, Peter Gojevic, Anita Henderson, Pauline
Johansen, Tony Gojevic, Jon Gojevic, Kathleen Fleming, Michael Gojevic, Mary Anne
Cumming, Bren Gojevic, Tim Gojevic and their spouses; many nieces and nephews including
7 great nieces and nephews. In addition Eileen has Aunts, Uncles and Cousins in England
with who she was in regular contact. She devoted her educational career to students with
special needs and last August completed her Masters in Special Education. Eileen's
adventurous spirit took her from canoeing in the Broken Islands to exploring Mayan ruins
in Mexico, Guatemala and Honduras. She always took the opportunity to learn in
everything she did. Eileen was particularly passionate about the Global Awareness
Through Education (Gate) projects. In lieu of flowers, donations to GATE would be
appreciated. The entire family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to Dr. Peter
Lutsky for his help and support at this very difficult time. A memorial service to
celebrate Eileen's life will be held on Friday, March 7th at 2:00 PM at St. Chad's
Church on the corner of 23rd Avenue and Trafalgar (3874 Trafalgar St.)

HAMILTON _ Don Hamilton passed away peacefully on March 4, 2003 with his family by his
side. Our Husband, Father, Poppa and Best Friend lived his life with enthusiasm and
generosity. He enjoyed a magical 30-year marriage to the love of his life, Dorothy.
Their adventure together was an inspiration and shining example to all who knew him. Don
was the youngest brother to a large family. He grew up in Winnipeg and spent many happy
summers at Grand Beach. Don relocated to Vancouver where he began a life long successful
career in the sawmill industry. Don was a tireless volunteer, community activist and
enjoyed a productive role with the Provincial Liberal Party. He was instrumental in
organizing minor football in Richmond - a project near and dear to his heart. He was our
mentor, hero and best buddy. There is no-one whose life he touched that did not benefit
from his huge and wise heart. Dorothy, his 3 children, Cheryl, Kathie (Tore), and Brian
(Michelle) and his Hannah-Bean will always cherish the memories and the unconditional
love which will guide them throughout their lives. Casey will miss his long walks with
his best friend. A celebration of Don's life will be held at the Marriot Hotel in
Richmond on Saturday, March 8th from 1 to 3 PM. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made

HARDY _ Gwen passed away peacefully on March 2, 2003, with her husband Arthur and family
by her side. Born June 2, 1919 in Victoria B.C., she lived and worked on Vancouver
Island until marrying the love of her life, Arthur, in 1952. They settled in North
Vancouver, raising their three children. Survived by her loving husband Arthur; children
Doug, Bev (Doug) Provost and Bob (Nancy); grandchildren, Trevor, Michelle (Chris),
Derek, Brooke, Kevin and Carolyne. Gwen was devoted to her family, community and church,
giving tirelessly of herself to all those she touched. She never complained, only gave.
She loved and lived life to the fullest everyday and will be missed by all who knew her
and loved her. The family would like to thank the staff of 7 East, Lions Gate Hospital
and Evergreen House, along with Drs. Seger and Kroll, for their compassionate and
wonderful care. A memorial service will be held at St. John's Anglican Church, 220 W.
8th St., North Vancouver (Ph. 604-986-1151) on Saturday, March 8, 2003 at 2:00PM. In

HART _ Harold Rupert. 1918 - 2003. On March 5th, 2003 Harold Hart at the age of 84
passed away peacefully with his family by his side. Harold is survived by his loving
daughters Gloria Beauchamp (Dave Ritchie), Joan Ramsell (Mike); 3 grandsons Bill
Cooksley (Alison), Tony and Adam Ramsell and his brother Bernard. Harold lost his
wonderful wife Lorena in 1994 and missed her dearly. He is also predeceased by his
sister Margaret Kraus. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, March 14th at Buchanan
Lodge, 409 Blair Avenue, New Westminster, B.C. at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers,
donations to Buchanan Lodge and or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.

HOSHOWSKY _ Peter Paul passed away suddenly on Sunday afternoon, March 2, 2003 at the
age of 67, in Vancouver B.C. Born on July 12, 1935 in Arran, Saskatchewan. Predeceased
by his mother Mary, father William and brother Eugene. He is survived by his loving
wife, Celia, daughter Leah Prasad (Krishna); granddaughter Tara; sisters Elsie, Stella,
Anne, Betty (Dale) and will always be "Uncle Pete" to numerous nephews, nieces, great
nephews and nieces. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2003 at 1PM at
Hamilton-Harron Funeral Centre, 5390 Fraser Street, Vancouver, B.C. Interment to follow
at Forest Lawn Cemetery. May he rest in Peace.

HURMUSES _ Paul. It is with great sadness that the family announce the passing of our
father, brother, grandfather, godfather and friend Paul Hurmuses. January 18, 1926 to
March 4, 2003 Paul is survived by his son Jeff Hurmuses (Sharona); daughter Stephanie
Hurmuses Ioannides (Yannis); grandchildren Alicia, Elli, and Manolis; brother John
Hurmuses (Gail); and sister Tania Batten (Gerry); nieces and nephews and many close
friends. Paul had a lifelong interest and career in journalism and he travelled the
world pursuing his passion. He was a very successful journalist and foreign
correspondent for Time/Life Magazines and The Chicago Daily News. Paul was a well
respected individual with his colleagues and members of the Greek Community. Viewing
will be held at St. George's Greek Orthodox Church, 4700 Arbutus St., Vancouver on
Thursday, March 6, 2003 at 6:30 p.m. with funeral service to be held on Friday, March 7,
2003 at 12 pm (noon), also at St. George's Greek Orthodox Church. Burial service will
follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3789 Royal Oak, Burnaby, BC. Service presided by Father
D. Partsafas. Donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation in lieu of flowers.

JANES _ William Cecil. Born May 14th, 1918, passed away in peace and love with family by
his side on March 2, 2003. Predeceased by the love of his life, Ethel P. Janes, "Poppy"
leaves to mourn two children, Robert (Patricia), Barbara (George Harvey); five
grandchildren, Steve Darling, Kim Jones, Tara Darling, Tracey Pynn (Darren), Denise
Broderick (Larry); three grandchildren, Carson and Delayney Jones, and Eathan Broderick.
Funeral Service to be held Friday, March 7 at Carnell Funeral Home in St. John's,
Newfoundland. Memorial Service to be held at Colebrook United Church in Surrey, BC on
Saturday, March 15th at 2:00 p.m. Poppy served Canada valiantly as a member of the Armed
Forces. The loss of his wry wit and questionable vocal talent (Carter's Hill) has left a
void. The loss of his friendship and compassion has left a canyon. The loss of his love
has left a broken heart. Have a safe journey Poppy. Give a kiss to Nanny for us. We love
you both.

LUSK _ Robert Norman, born June 30, 1923, sailed home peacefully February 25, 2003 at
home following a courageous battle with cancer. His tenacity to overcome this disease
was an inspiration to all. He is survived by his best friend and loving wife, Marian and
family; daughter, Denise Pew; brother George (Pearl); brother Trevor; and families.
Robert had many passions over his lifetime and pursued them all with great enthusiasm.
In later years he became an avid lawn bowler and will be sorely missed at the club.
"Polish up those (bowls)". No service by request.

MacDONALD _ John Allan. Jack was born May 21, 1915 in Newgate, BC and passed away
suddenly in North Vancouver on March 3, 2003. Pre-deceased by his wife Joan (1998) and
survived by sons Bill and Tom (Joanne), grandchildren Cameron, Heather, Dustin, Annalise
and Claire. He was a loving and caring father as well as a terrific craftsman and golfer
who will be sadly missed by all, including sisters Irene, Claire and brother Rod and by
many other relatives, friends and neighbours. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Jude's
Shrine, 3078 Renfrew Street, Vancouver on Monday, March 10 at 10:00 AM. In lieu of
flowers, please make a donation to a charity of your choice.

MACKINNON _ In loving memory of Bruce Albert James. Born January 15, 1957 in Brantford,
Ontario passed away March 1, 2003 in Langley, B.C., with his family by his side
following a courageous battle with cancer. Despite this he always had a smile on his
face, a twinkle in his eye and joke or witty comment to share with all. Bruce will be
forever lovingly remembered by his wife, Elsie; daughters, Angela and Heather; Mother,
Norma Bourne (Frank); brother, Ron (Deb); and sisters, Janice (Ed) and Susan (Rory) as
well as numerous nieces and nephews, many relatives, friends, business associates and
employees. Bruce was an extremely devoted, loving and caring husband and father and
found joy in his life playing golf and hockey, fishing, playing the bagpipes, and
spending time around family and friends. Bruce attended Point Grey High School in
Vancouver and began his career with Domtar in 1975, which led to various position in
Kamloops, Kelowna and Victoria. In 1993 he began working for Hub City Supplies (the
Winroc Corp.) in Courtenay and Nanaimo and in 2001 moved to Langley and became General
Manager for the Lower Mainland. He was very dedicated and hardworking and loved new
challenges. Everyone who knew Bruce was touched by his love, kindness and unique sense
of humour. Although Bruce has left us for now, we each have special memories of him that
will keep him alive in our hearts forever. Please join us in a Celebration of Bruce's
Life on Monday, March 10, 2003 at 1:30 p.m. at Henderson's Funeral Home at 20786 Fraser

MATTHEWS _ Barbara J, born in Vancouver on January 12, 1944, passed away peacefully on
March 4, 2003 in Nanaimo Regional General Hospital. Predeceased by her mother and
father, survived by her husband Roy; son Shane (Theresa) Matthews, Danny (Molly); two
grandchildren, Tonalee and Devin; sister Mary of Australia; numerous nieces, nephews and
other family members. A memorial service for Barbara will be held at 3:00 p.m. on
Saturday, March 8, 2003 at Sands Funeral Chapel, One Newcastle Avenue, Nanaimo, BC, with
Reverend Fred Massey officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the

McCALLUM _ William (Bill) born in Scotland, April 6, 1909, passed away peacefully on
February 27th 2003. Predeceased by his wife Dora (1996). Bill will be lovingly missed by
daughter Irene (John) Ross of Campbell River, and son Bill (Marie) McCallum of Delta,
five grandchildren, Rebecca (Peter), Bill (Hope), Rachel (Mike), Nigel (Francoise), and
John, nine great-grandchildren, Brandon, Taylor, Brittany, Sophia, Eliza, James, Chloe,
Liam and Oliver, and many other relatives. He was greatly loved and will be sadly missed
by all. A Memorial Service will be held March 8, 2003 at 1pm in Columbia-Bowell Chapel,
219 - 6th Street, New Westminster. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the

ORLIKOWSKI _ Hedwig, "Orli", passed away on February 13, 2003, in her 98 year.
Predeceased by husband Johan. Lovingly remembered by her son Gerhard (Helga) and
granddaughter Connie (Carson) and many friends. Funeral Service was held in First
Memorial Funeral Chapel, 602 Kingsway, (1 block west of Fraser) Vancouver, on Wednesday,
March 5, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. Interment followed the service at Ocean View Burial Park in
Burnaby. A special thank you to the staff at the German Canadian Care Home. In lieu of
flowers, donations may be made in Orli's memory to the German Canadian Care Home.

RICHARDSON _ George S.H. 1915 - 2003 George passed away peacefully with his wife of 54
years Grace at his side Monday, March 3, 2003. George spent his working life at Canada
Post in Vancouver, retiring in 1978. In 1999 he and Grace moved to Calgary to be closer
to family. George was in a retirement facility for the last 3years. George's remains
will be interred in North Vancouver in accordance with his wishes. He is survived by
wife Grace Richardson, son and daughter-in-law George and Lorna Richardson, his daughter
and son-in-law Gay and Gary Van-Dack and 2 grandchildren Christina and Jennifer
Van-Dack. No funeral services as per his request.

ROCKL _ Wilhemena Maria passed away quietly in her sleep on March 4, 2003 at the age of
94 years. She is survived by her husband Carl and son Raymond; grandchildren, Lori, Gary
and Corey Rockl, and great-grandson Dakota. She is predeceased by son Richard. A
memorial service and reception will be held in the Langley Lodge chapel at 2 p.m.,
Saturday, March 8th. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Langley Lodge Sunshine Fund in
Wilma's name would be appreciated.

ROSS _ Peacefully on March 2, 2003, Ellenore Florence Ross of Pemberton, aged 65 years.
She is lovingly remembered and will be forever cherished by her husband Lex, son Terry
(Cheryl), granddaughters Tiffanie and Deanna, grandson Justin, son Kelly, granddaughter
Alisha, grandsons Lorne and Cody and their mother Kim Ross, daughter Cindy (Albert)

SWEET _ Robert "Bob" P., aged 87 years, passed away peacefully on March 4th 2003 in
Northcrest Care Centre, Delta. He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 64 years, Clara;
3 children, Madeleine (Jack) Kyle, Ron (Patricia) and Al (Miriam West); 2 grandsons,
Stephen (Pam) and Mark (Dianne Bell) Sim and 2 great-grandchildren, Connor and Kaitlyn
Sim. Bob served in the Air Force during WWII and he retired from Crown Zellerbach Paper
Company in 1981. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, March 6th at 10:30 a.m. at St.
