LAWRENCE, WILFRED Arnold (Bus) passed away suddenly at Nanaimo Regional
General Hospital on August 16, 2003 at the age of 84 years. Bus is survived
by his loving wife Bertha (B.J.); daughters Linda and Debbie (Dave) Walker;
son Dan; grandson Daniel; step-children Brenda, Darryl, Jeff and Greg
(Monika); step-grandchildren Corey, Cole, Jake and numerous nieces and
nephews. Bus served in the Royal Canadian Navy during WWII. Bus was an avid
golfer and a member of Vancouver Golf Club for50 years. Bus and Bertha moved
to Qualicum Beach in 2000 and both joined Eaglecrest Golf Course. Loved and
respected by all who knew him, Bus will be sorely missed. A Memorial Service
will be held Saturday, August 23, 2003 at First Memorial Funeral Services,
1720 Bowen Road, Nanaimo, BC at 12:00 noon. In lieu of flowers, donations
may be made in Buss memory to the Cascadia Society, 165 East 1st Street,

Obituaries (08/21/03)
PHELAN, MARY born in Dublin, Ireland on July 3, 1921, passed away peacefully
on August 19, 2003 in Nanaimo, BC. She is predeceased by her husband Pat in
1991. Mary leaves behind her brother Pat Burchael in Dublin Ireland, her two
sons John (Brenda) of Nanaimo, and Joseph of Nanaimo, her three daughters
Mary Turner of Dawson Creek, Irene, (David) Fyfe of Campbell River, and
Joan, (Rick) Lachapelle of Terrace, 18 grandchildren, and 6 great
grandchildren. A funeral service will be heldfor Mary at Our lady of Good
Counsel Catholic Church on Jinglepot Rd., on Friday, August 22 at 7:00pm.
Father Greuter officiating. Interment will take place in Terrace City
Cemetery on Tuesday, August 26, 2003 at 1:00pm. A special thanks to Dr.
Dorsey and the caring staff at Malaspina Lodge. Sands ~ Nanaimo

TAJE, PHYLLIS Lorraine, born on February 13, 1951 in Pincher Creek, Alberta,
passed away quietly with her family on August 16, 2003 in Cowichan District
Hospital, Duncan, BC. Predeceased by her father George Edward Wilbern in
1998, father-in-law Melvin Taje in 1987 and mother-in-law Freda (nee
Sygutek) in 1989. She is survived by her loving husband Edward Albert Taje,
Cobble Hill, BC, children; David (Shauna), Whitehorse, Yukon, Paulette
(Ivan), Vancouver, BC, mother Ida Wilbern (John), Camrose, Alberta,
brothers; Kenneth, Whitehorse, Yukon, Robert (Helen), Fort McMurray, sister
Patricia (Jim), Camrose, Alberta, grandchildren; Arlen, Alex, Sarah,
brothers-in-law; Kenneth (Marsha), Campbell River, BC, Gary (Paddy), and
Michael (Lee) Blairmore, Alberta, Robby (Shelley), Langford, BC,
sister-in-law Frances (Larry), Coleman, Alberta as well as her many nieces,
nephews and friends. Phyllis was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother,
daughter, partner and friend. Her sense of humor was only surpassed by her
kindness to animals. She took great pleasure and enjoyment in Sasha and
Chica, devoted pets. She also took exceptional pleasure in supporting many
animal related charities. She was a dedicated friend, supporter and comfort
to those in physical difficulties, especially those with cancer. At the
request of Phyllis there will be no service. Flowers are respectfully
declined. Donations in her memory may be made to a local SPCA or the Nanaimo
Mason Lodge #110 for the Cancer Car Program, c/o Les Robinson, 2146 Wren
