ARSENS _ Paul Gus passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on September 7th, 2003
at the age of 67 years. Paul is survived by his loving wife Nancy; his children Dino
(Elaine), Gina (Cameron) and Jimmy; his sisters Georgia (Nick), Zmaro (Nick) and Litsa
(Chris) and many other family and friends. Prayers will be held at St. George's Greek
Orthodox Cathedral, 4500 Arbutus Street, Vancouver on Wednesday, September 10th at 7:00
p.m. where the Funeral Service will take place on Thursday, September 11th at 1:00 p.m.
Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family would like to thank all
the staff at St. Paul's Hospital for their loving care and compassion. In lieu of
flowers, donations can be made to the St. Paul's Hospital Foundation.

BARNES _ Robert James Born March 20, 1922. Passed away quietly at Lions Gate Hospital
early in the morning Thursday, August 28th, 2003, after a long struggle with failing
health. Husband, father, grandfather, brother, neighbour and friend to many. Predeceased
by his wife of fifty years, Mildred Barnes (nee Somerville). Survived by his brother
William (Bill); sister Betty (Welch); and his two children Bev (Bicknell) and Greg.
Fondly remembered by his sister-in-law Doris Landrey (Portland, Oregon). Memories of
"Little Papa" will be cherished by his four grandchildren, Laura, Christopher, Andrew
and Emalia. Bob was a graduate of Point Grey Secondary School and a proud Veteran of
World War II. He worked as a long time employee of Ocean Construction Supplies Ltd., and
was also an active member of the Kervans Men's Club. Bob truly enjoyed a great party and
was known to sip a cold beer on the odd occasion (but only after the grass was cut).
Greg, Aileen, Bev and Lawrence would like to thank friends and extended family members
for their ongoing support, care and concern as Bob's health failed over the past four
years. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, September 13, 2003, in the
Boal Chapel of First Memorial Funeral Services, 1505 Lillooet Road, North Vancouver,
B.C. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of
B.C.

BARREGAR _ William Robert Reid, October 30, 1945 to September 6, 2003. Bob passed away
at Lions Gate Hospital after a courageously fought battle with cancer. His family and
his oldest friend, Alan Bryant were by his side. He was a devoted husband to his wife
Ann, a loving and proud father to his son Adam (fiancee Angie), and daughter Jennifer
(Adam) and his adored granddaughter Sean. He is also survived by his mother Gerry, his
sister Joan (Andrew), and his three nephews to whom he was like a second father, Bob
(Deb), Michael (Alison) and David ("The Emri Boys"). His brother, Bill (Denice) and
Bill's four children, Adrienne, Alex (Matt), Colleen, and Will, his Aunt Marti,
brother-in-law John (Elaine) and niece Julie, and his much loved mother-in-law Margaret.
Bob loved all of his nieces and nephews and took great pride in seeing them grow. In the
last year of his life, his great-nephews and nieces were a great source of joy,
Nicholas, Olivia, Grace, Ben and Luke. Bob was loyal, true to himself and his family was
everything to him. He will be missed. A Service will be held on Thursday, September 11,
2003 at 11:00 a.m. at the Capilano United Church, 2260 Philip Ave., North Vancouver,
B.C. and a reception will follow at his home. If friends so desire, memorial donations

BLANCHETTE _ Lieutenant Colonel Michael Allan, as the result of Military Service on
Friday, September 5, 2003, Lt. Col. Michael Allan Blanchette of Trenton at the age of 49
years. Loved son of Maurice Blanchette and the late Joyce Blanchette. Beloved husband of
Shirley Blanchette. Loving father of Michael Andrew Blanchette and his fiancee Ally of
Ottawa and Ann Blanchette of Toronto. Dear brother of Rick (Bonnie), Larry (Bridgette),
Dave (Amber), Nicky (Jeff) and Isabel "Bel" (Reg). Funeral service will be held at the 8
Wing Chapel, CFB Trenton on Friday, September 12 at 2pm. Major Lloyd Clifton
officiating. Cremation to follow. Donations to the Juno Beach Centre (JBC) in memory of
Lt. Col. Mike Blanchette, who jumped into the opening of the JBC, June 6, 2003, would be

BURDETT _ Anika Margaurite Nora ("Annie"). Born 26th December 2001. Passed away suddenly
September 5, 2003. In her short life, she won many hearts with her clapping hands and
constant smile. This radiant little soul was much loved by her family: father Alan,
mother Leontyne, sisters Mahalia and Alina, grandparents on both sides, great
grandmother, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins, as well as many friends. We are so
grateful for the doctors and nurses who saw her through the trials of her short life. We
also want to acknowledge, with deep gratitude, the love of many friends who have helped
us through this difficult time. The funeral will be held at Holy Trinity Church,
Lonsdale, North Vancouver on Wednesday, September 10th at 12:00 noon.

BUSS _ Joseph Craig. Joe passed away peacefully September 3rd, 2003 at Ridge Meadows
Hospital. He was predeceased by his father Joe, his grandfather Craig Lea and his
step-father Harold Vos. Surviving Joe are his grandmother Evelyn Lea, mother Arlene Vos,
brothers Dan and Craig; his beloved children Jessica and Andrew; his extended family,
Harold, Sue, Tina, Joanne and Mona, and many loving relatives and friends. Memorial
Service to be held Saturday, September 27th, 2003 at 2:00 P.M. in the Maple Ridge
Funeral Chapel, 11969-216th St., Maple Ridge, BC. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the
ALS Society would be appreciated.

CHRISTENSEN _ Else R., age 79 years of Burnaby passed away August 23, 2003 at Fellburn
Private Hospital. Else is survived by family and friends. Funeral service will be held
on Thursday, September 11, 2003 at 10:00 am from the chapel of Burnaby Funeral
Directors, 4276 Hastings Street, Burnaby. Interment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial
Park.

CHUNICK _ Peacefully, in the early morning of September 5th, 2003, Alexander Chunick
passed away. His struggle with pain coming to its end. A soldier, businessman, husband,
father and recently a grandfather. He is survived by his companion Adela Niel; sister
Helen Zenzeluk; his daughter Laura Bir;, son Richard Chunick and grand daughter Cheyenne
Richelle Chunick (Who could make him smile even in the worst of times). Alexander
pioneered many ventures in his time after his return from WWII. A real estate venturer,
restaurateur, prospector and promoter, as well as a family man and husband. He longed to
be reunited with his late wife Ann since her passing in 1994. Her love never left his
heart. We will all remember him for his sense of humour and kind heart. In his lone life
he left his memory deep in our souls. We will not forget.
CHURCHER _ Violet (Gerry) February 16th, 1918 - September 6th, 2003 It is with deep
sorrow that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Gerry. Mom was born in Victoria,
B.C. and was predeceased by her beloved husband Reg and beloved brother Angus. Mom
passed away after saying her final farewells to her immediate family. Gerry leaves to
mourn her loss, daughter Cathy (Randy); son Ed (Heather), Chelsey, Amanda; grandson Reg
(Alli), great-grandson Daniel; granddaughter Kathleen; sister Kaye and numerous nieces,
nephews and friends. A very special thank you to all the wonderful staff at the
Hawthorne Care Centre for their excellent care of our dear Mom. No service by request.

COBURN _ Theodore (Ted) Richard Coburn, of Vancouver, B.C. went to be with his Lord on
September 5, 2003, age 88 years. Survived by his brother, Gerald (Mary) Coburn. Funeral

COOK _ Margaret (nee Smith). Predeceased by Robert, her loving husband of 49 years,
passed away peacefully on September 4, 2003 surrounded by her family. Lovingly
remembered by her children, George Cook, Frances Bergsma, Laura Eagen, Lisa Cook and
their partners as well as her sister, Lillian Reid Smith. She will be sadly missed by
her nine grandchildren and great-grandson. Our thanks to the Simon Fraser Home Care
nurses and the nurses of C2B at Eagle Ridge Hospital for their compassion, empathy and
outstanding care. She died as she lived _ her way. Following Margaret's wishes, a
private memorial will be held. If desired, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society
would be appreciated.

ERICKSON _ Eric, age 77 years, of Burnaby, passed away suddenly on September 5, 2003.
Eric was predeceased by his wife Muriel in 2001. He is survived by his loving family:
brother Roy (Linda); niece Joanne (Garry) Spence; great-niece Jennifer; brother-in-law
John Robertson; also many other nieces, nephews and friends. A funeral service will be
held on Thursday, September 11th at 1:00 pm from the chapel of Burnaby Funeral
Directors, 4276 Hastings Street, Burnaby. In lieu of flowers, donations to the BC Heart
and Stroke Foundation or a charity of one's choice would be appreciated.

HAISELL _ Jean Louise Born in Corner Brook, Newfoundland May 30, 1929. Passed away
September 5,2003 in the Richmond Hospital after fighting valiantly with her failing
health. Jean is survived by her loving family: husband Donald and son John; brother
Donald Thistle (Sylvia); sister Elizabeth; and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of
flowers, donations would be greatly appreciated in Jean's memory to the Canadian Cancer
Society or the SPCA. A private memorial will take place at a later date.

JACOBSON _ Arlean Bethal, on September 06, 2003, passed away peacefully at the Normanna
Rest Home, Burnaby. Predeceased by her husband Jake in 1968. Survived by many nieces,
nephews and friends. A viewing will be held on Thursday, September 11 between 12:00
pm -1:00 pm at Mount Pleasant Universal Funeral Home, 306 East 11th, Ave. Vancouver. A

JOHNSTON _ William Greenaway, born August 27, 1922 in Stirling, Scotland, passed away
peacefully at Royal Columbian Hospital on September 6, 2003. Funeral services to be held
at Valley View Funeral Home, Arbor Chapel, 14660-72nd Avenue, Surrey on Wednesday,
September 10th at 2:30 pm.

JOYAL/WELSH _ Donna Lynn passed away suddenly on September 6, 2003 at the age of 55.
Donna (Mom) will be sadly missed by her Loving husband Donald; children Kevin (Beth),
Tamie (Doug), Don (Corina) and James; 8 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; any other
relatives and friends. Cremation. No service by request.

LACEY _ Walter Frank. May 16, 1937 - January 28, 2003. Thank you to all staff, business
associates, friends and customers of Wildwood Recreational Services. Thank you for all
of your support over the years. To my loving wife Val, I will be with you forever.

MacAULAY _ James Malcolm March 28, 1914 September 4, 2003 Jim was born in New Denver,
BC, and raised in St. Peter's Bay, P.E.I. where he graduated from St. Dunstan's College
in 1934. He then returned to BC to begin his career as a teacher. During WWII he served
with the RCAF as a navigator, after which he returned to teaching. He did post graduate
work at the University of Alberta in Edmonton and St. Louis College in the USA obtaining
a degree in psychology. In 1956, he joined the faculty of the University of Notre Dame,
in Nelson, where he remained until his retirement in 1976. Jim sponsored several
children through World Vision over the years. He is survived by his sister Mary
Pederson, nephew Allan Crowe (Marge), and niece Karen Miazga (Barry), and families.
Predeceased by two sisters Christina, (Sr. Clare, 1974) and Irene MacAulay (1999).
Funeral Services at Guardian Angels Catholic Church (Davie and Broughton Streets,
Vancouver, BC). Prayers on Thursday, September 11 at 7:00 p.m. with rite of Christian
burial on Friday, September 12 at 12:00 noon. Interment to follow at Forest Lawn. In
lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choice in his memory.

McTAVISH _ Isabel Grace passed away peacefully on September 5th, 2003 at the age of 98.
Isabel was born on October 22nd, 1904 in Vancouver and is survived by nieces Joan,
Marian, Ann and Janice (Clarence) and nephews Munroe and Rob (Karen) and 6 great-nieces
and nephews. Isabel graduated from UBC in 1929 and later received a degree in Library
Science. She took a leave of absence from the Vancouver Public Library to join the
military and was posted in Ottawa. After the war, Isabel returned to the VPL where she
managed the children's section until her retirement in 1966. Isabel was a world traveler
and enjoyed a wide circle of friends, both professionally and socially. She loved
children and gardening and had a rich and full life. The family wishes to thank the
staff at Louis Brier Home for caring for Isabel in her last years. To honour Isabel's
memory, there will be a gathering at 2 -11100 Railway Avenue, Richmond on Thursday,
September 11 from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m.

MOREY _ Frank James P. Eng. 1922-2003 Born Francis James Archer in Chelsea, England.
Paleontologist, Geologist, Professional Engineer, Desert Rat, Special Air Services
Veteran, and Intellectual. Survived by his wife Lelia, son Ian and stepson Jim Leedham.
Predeceased by his parents and his sister, Dulcie. Burial to take place at North
Vancouver Cemetery. Tributes to charity of your choice.

NEUMANN _ Msgr. Donald Wayne, priest of the Archdiocese of Vancouver, born on May 2nd
1948, fortified by the sacraments and the prayers of the people of God, fell asleep in
the Lord on First Saturday September 6th 2003. Predeceased by his mother, Lorraine and
sister Diana. Survived by his father, Robert and wife Joan; brothers Bob (Judy), and Ron
(Dawn); sister Pam (Roger); nephews, nieces, great nephews and nieces, and many friends.
Prayers will be held on Thursday September 11th at 7:30pm in Holy Rosary Cathedral, 646
Richards Street where Solemn Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday September 12th at

O'DONNELL _ Marguerite Theresa (nee McGowan). Born October 3, 1903, in Perth, Ontario.
Died peacefully September 5th, 2003. Predeceased by her husband William Patrick (1969).
Survived by her sons, John (Sheelagh) and Bill (Jeanette). Seven grandchildren, Stephen
(Wendy), Maureen, Michael, Tim (Rachel), Shawn, Padraic, and Kevin. Three
great-grandchildren, Sarah, Liam, and Anja. Numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She
was the last of eight brothers and sisters, Mary, Ann, Tom, Jim, Harry, Dan, and
Wilfred. A long full life led her from Ontario to the farms of Alberta, and then to
Kitsilano where she resided for many years, sustained by numerous friends and family and
lemon meringue pie. Special thanks to Dr. Reeves and the staff at Youville, where she
happily spent her last years, as well, a thanks to her many visitors. Mass of Christian
burial will be celebrated on Thursday, September 11th, 2003, at 10:00 AM from the Parish

OKE _ Mary Kathleen (nee Rose), born June 2, 1914 in Vancouver passed away peacefully
September 5, 2003 age 89. Predeceased by her husband Harry; her brother Fred Rose and
son-in-law Reid. Survived by her stepdaughter Betty Overland (Allan); daughter Barbara
Hoodspith; son Brian (Judy); 9 beloved grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Also
survived by sisters Joan Milligan (Jack), Barbara Cook (Harvey) and 7 nieces and
nephews. Mom's greatest love was her family. Mary loved to travel. She was always ready
to go anywhere, anytime. The highlight of each year was the time spent in Maui with
family and friends. For many years Harry and Mary spent the summer months at their cabin
at Watch Lake. In her early years, Mary was a championship tennis player and field
hockey goalie. In her teens, she exercised polo ponies in Stanley Park. In her adult
years, Mary was an avid curler at Capilano Winter Club. A celebration of Mary's life
will be held for family and friends later in September. In lieu or flowers, donations
would be appreciated to the Palliative Care Ward, Lions Gate Hospital or the West
Vancouver Animal Shelter. Night night Momma. We will miss your laughter, your fun and
the great love you had for all your family. A new star is shining in the heavens.

PARRY _ Winifred (nee Dixie) December 6, 1906 - August 29, 2003. The youngest of 'the
Dixie girls', Win was born in Derby, England and since 1912 resided most of her life in
New Westminster. She and her beloved husband Ivor (deceased 1981) were successful
co-partners in Parry Agencies there for many years. She remained an interested and
enthusiastic participant in life. Win's saucy sense of humour, smart hats and infectious
laugh made her a favourite of family, friends and acquaintances of all ages. Win is
survived by her sister Blanche Dixie, nephew John Dixie, three later generations of
nieces and nephews, and many devoted friends. She will be missed and lovingly
remembered. No service at her request.

PERRY _ Patricia Daisy (nee Humphreys) passed away peacefully on August 31, 2003 in
Richmond BC. Patricia was born in London England in 1918. She immigrated to Canada in
1927 and lived in Thunder Bay for many years before moving to BC in 1969. She is
survived by her two sons, Victor (Eleanor, Oren and Tamar), David (Margaret, Ryan and
Justin), and daughter Joan Cantwell (Robert, Angela and James). Patricia's joy in life,
her kindness and laughter will be missed by all those she touched. A Memorial Service
will be held Tuesday, September 9, 2003 at 2:30 p.m. in the Minoru Chapel in Richmond.

POGUE _ Patricia Gail (aka Knott). Born in Omemee, Ontario on March 18, 1939, passed
away September 6th, 2003. She fought cancer with bravery and grace. She will be missed
by her loving family, brother Robert Pogue; her sons, Geoff Knott and Robert Pogue
(Kim), and her daughters, Beth Woodbridge (Robin) and Chris Christie (Andy); along with
her grandchildren; Matthew, Stuart, David, Bradley, Victoria, Holly, Adam and Thomas;
and her friends both new and old. The family wishes to thank all the staff at Kootenay
Lake General Hospital, especially Jessie, Tracy, Bill, and Dr. Keith Bridger for care
given. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, September 12th at 2:00 p.m. at St.
Saviour's Anglican Church, Ward Street, in Nelson

POTUZAK _ Benjamin June 16, 1914 - September 4, 2003 Passed away peacefully at 89 years
of age. Predeceased by loving wife Dorothy, his two brothers Charlie and Laddie and
sister Josie. Ben will be lovingly remembered by his two sons James (Verna) and Robert
(Donna), by his nieces Helen Giacomuzzi and Vali Stuart and family, sister-in-law
Patricia Barton and family, by his two grandchildren Michael and John. Ben was born and
raised in Frank Alberta before serving overseas in the Canadian Army. After returning
home to greet his loving wife and first born son, he spent the rest of his life in his
adopted city of Vancouver. He was a kind and gentle man who will be missed by all who
knew him. Services for Ben will be held Thursday, September 11, 2003 at 12:30 p.m. from
the chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 3789 Royal Oak Ave., Burnaby. In lieu of
flowers, donations may be made to the Children's Make a Wish Foundation.

SHATSKY _ Dr. Harold. Born October 5th, 1914 passed away on September 7th, 2003 with his
loving family by his side. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Julie; his 4
daughters Ethlyne, Dee (Jeff), Jane (Jean-Jacques), Lisbeth (Garry) and his 3
grandchildren Ely, Samantha and David. Funeral Services will be held on September 9th at
Beth Israel Cemetery, 1721 Willingdon, Burnaby at 11:00 a.m. Special thanks to Dr. David
Thomson, the entire staff of the Louis Brier Home and Hospital and his companions.

SWEETAPPLE _ Jean Beatrice (nee Pearson). Born May 10th, 1933. It is with great sadness
that we announce that Jean passed away suddenly on Tuesday, September 2nd, 2003 at
Campbell River Hospital. Jean is survived by her loving family, husband Edward;
daughters Penny Hanson (Dan), Lynn Marling (Rob); foster daughter Bernice Truesdale;
grandchildren Austin, Tyler, Sheri, Tina; brothers Bill (Lorna), Don (Joanne); numerous
nieces, nephews and their families. Predeceased by her brother Bob. Jean was a loving
and caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She touched all who met
her with her gentleness and sense of humour. She will be loved and missed by all. A
Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, September 11th, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. at
Henderson's Funeral Home, located at 20786 Fraser Highway, Langley, B.C. with reception

TIMMATH _ Thelma Leeota (Magnusson) passed away after a lengthy illness at Charles
Barham Pavilion, Surrey Memorial Hospital on September 6, 2003. She was born June 11,
1908 in Sanilac, Michigan, USA. She was predeceased by son Lloyd, 1939; daughter Ruth
Mather, 2000; brothers, Earl, Archie and Alfred Day; and husband Bob, 2001. Thelma is
survived by her loving family: daughters, Hilda (Stan) Wolfenden, New Hazelton, BC,
Betty Lou (Emile) Michaud, Kelowna, BC; sons, Don Magnusson, Pender Island, BC, Ken
Magnusson, Medicine Hat, Alberta, Larry (Cherrilyn) Magnusson, Golden, BC, Garry
(Jessie) Magnusson, Langley, BC and Jack (Nancy) Magnusson, Kamloops, BC; sister Ellen
Munday, Vernon, BC; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She
will be remembered as a loving mother, an excellent seamstress, knitter, making diamond
socks and sweaters on the knitting machine, crocheting, and many crafts which her family
and friends received. She sold many of the crafts. Loved housplants, enjoyed playing
cards, noted for her baked bread. Thelma will be forever cherished for her selfless
devotion and compassion for others. The family wish to thank the staff at Charles Barham
Pavilion for their special care and kindness. We love you Mom. A quiet family service
will be held at Valley View Funeral Home, Surrey on September 9th at 2:00 pm.

TROTTO _ Frank Peter, born November 29, 1918 in Bellingham, Washington, and passed away
quietly at home on September 4, 2003 in Coquitlam, BC. Predeceased by his loving wife of
53 years, Maxine, and his brothers John and Tom. Survived by his sister Marian; brother
Sam; daughter Mary; sons Brian and Robert, and their families including six
grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Frank was formerly a General Manager of
Flavelle Cedar Division of Weldwood of Canada, a past-president and long-time member of
the Vancouver Golf Club, a member of the Coquitlam Presbyterian Church, and a former

Coquitlam Presbyterian Church at the corner of Blue Mountain Street and Como Lake Avenue
in Coquitlam.

WILBUR _ Angus, on September 07, 2003 passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness,
aged 82. He will be sadly missed by his loving family: beloved wife of 59 years, Evelyn;
sons David (Linda), Greg (Colleen);, daughter Carol; eight grandchildren; five
great-grandchildren. Angus was an avid bridge player and golfer, he will be missed by
many. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 11th at 10:00 am in the
chapel of Mount Pleasant Universal Funeral Home, 306 East 11th Ave Vancouver, burial to
follow at Mountain View Cemetery, 5455 Fraser Street, Vancouver.

WILSON _ Eileen May. Born in Montreal Quebec, November 23rd, 1927 passed away September
2nd, 2003 at St. Michael's Extended Care Unit. Predeceased by her parents Harold and
Lilly; her sisters Dorothy, Hazel, Muriel. Survived by her siblings Calvin, Herbie,
Melvin, Bobby, Carl, Catherine and Bonnie and nieces and nephews, too numerous to
mention. Many thanks to St. Michael's staff and her doctor, Dr. Kan. No service by
request. We'll see you in heaven "Neen"
