LEY _ Thomas Omri Ley was born in South Wales, in the small mining village of
Birchgrove. He embodied the spirit of Wales in his love of language, music, and rugby.
He spoke mostly Welsh until going, in his teens, to Whitney, England, to apprentice with
a bookkeeping firm. Though he had a love for and facility with numbers, he returned to
Wales after several years to join the Swansea Borough Police. He remained there, through
the Second World War bombing of Swansea port, until joining the RAF later in the war.
His RAF training took him to Calgary, where he met his future wife, Evelyn (nee Noble)in
Calgary. After the war, he returned to the Swansea Police, emigrating in 1947 to
Calgary, where he married. He worked for Imperial Oil in Calgary until 1952 when he was
transferred to Ioco. He and Evelyn, and their only child Gareth, moved to New
Westminster, where he remained for the rest of his life. In 1954, Tom left Imperial Oil
to work as an agent for the Prudential Assurance Company, where he remained, as a CLU,
until closing his agency over 40 years later. He enjoyed his work, building a clientele
that often extended to the children and even grandchildren of his clients, and often
helped them with issues beyond their insurance needs. He was involved with the local CLU
Chapter, as well as with the Kinsmen and United Way. As a young man, Tom played rugby
both in Wales and in Vancouver. He was witty and had a whimsical sense of humor. In his
final years, Tom suffered the effects of Alzheimer's, but kept his innate courtesy to
the end. A very warm thank you to the first floor staff at Royal City Manor for making
his life so comfortable and pleasant for four and a half years. Predeceased by his wife
Evelyn in 1998. He is survived by his brother Eifion, sisters Ray and Betty (Dave), and
their families in Wales; and son Gareth Llewellyn in Vancouver. A Memorial Service will
be held in the Chapel of Royal City Manor, 77 Jamieson Court, New Westminster, on
Tuesday, October 28, 2003, at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the
Alzheimer's Society.

ROOTE _ Trevor Frederick, passed away peacefully October 11, 2003, at Lions Gate
Hospital. Born on November 22, 1929, in Vancouver, he lived a rich and fulfilling life.
His early summers in Howe Sound fostered a love of boating and the out of doors. His
passion for boating led to a successful career in building and importing many of the
boats now cruising in BC's coastal waters. During his life, he explored most of BC's
coast with his wife Susie, and passed on his love of the ocean to his children (thanks
dad). His travels also took him through BC, Canada and the world. Trev balanced his
personal life with several successful businesses in the marine and automobile industry.
His vision and efforts also enriched his communities; in particular working towards
better trails and parks in Whistler, the North Shore and Keats Island. Diagnosed with
leukemia over 20 years ago, he continued to live a full and rich life. His
determination, creativity, love of life and support will be sadly missed by everyone who
shared his life. He leaves behind his loving wife, Susie; children, Sheila, Ian and
Lisa; brother, Robert; and grandchildren Sarah, Travis, Paul, Taryn and Kenzie. We will
be celebrating his life at 10:30 AM on Thursday, October 16th, at West Vancouver Yacht
Club, 5854 Marine Drive, West Vancouver. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in
Trev's memory, to the Lions Gate Hospital Foundation, in support of the new Chemotherapy
Clinic. Our sincere thanks to the staff at Lions Gate Hospital, especially the nurses in
the Chemotherapy Clinic. We are very grateful for the care and wisdom of Dr. Paul Klimo
and Dr. Garry Jenkins.
