BEDFORD _ Leon passed away peacefully in Burnaby Hospital on March 26th, 2004. Sadly missed by family and friends. Special thanks to Dr. D. Wong, Christina and doctors and staff at Burnaby Hospital. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, April 4th, 2004 at First United Spiritualist Church, 5584 Kincaid Street, Burnaby (near Douglas Road and Canada Way). BLATTENBERGER _ Christina passed away on March 27, 2004 at the age of 28 years. She is survived by her mother, sister and father, the Blattenberger family, the D'Andrea family and Rosemary Sandovell. Funeral Prayers will be held Friday, April 2, at 5:30 PM in Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 315 Walker Street, Coquitlam, followed by a Funeral Mass Saturday, April 3 at 12:30 PM. Rev. P. DUCA _ Concetta. Born in Caserta, Italy passed away on March 31st, 2004 at the age of 92 years. She is survived by her loving family, husband Santo; children Maria (Giuseppe Virginillo), Nino; grandchildren Tony, Giovanna (Marc D'Andrea), Marco and relatives in Italy. HEWSON _ Dorothy Jessie, born May 15, 1903 in Barry, South Wales, passed away peacefully March 26, 2004 in West Vancouver at 100 years of age. Survived by her only son H.A. (Burt) Taylor of Somerset, England. She was much loved "Aunt Dorothy" to the Pinkerton family, Sandy, Maisie, Colin, Douglas, and Airlie. No service at Dorothy's request. Cremation. Many thanks to Gloria, and her caregiver colleagues at Inglewood Care Centre.


JEFFERSON _ Barbara Lorraine, age 49, died at home on Monday, March 29, 2004 with her family by her side. Barbara is lovingly remembered by her parents Dick and Sophie Jefferson of Winnipeg, her long time friend, companion and partner, Eva-Marie (Brandy) Buchner, her brother Eric, aunts and uncles: Bryan and Chris, Judy and Terry Miller, Tom and Lexx and her cousins whom she numbered in the half-dozen. She is loved and will be missed by Brandy's family - Margaret, Theresa (Ted) and Cyndi (Stephen) and by her much loved kittens - Louis and Didi. Barbara was born and raised in Winnipeg. She graduated from the University of Winnipeg in English and Anthropology and from BCIT in Computer Technology. She was a life-long learner and actively encouraged the same in others. Barbara was a woman of many talents and skills honed by her travels and experiences. She enjoyed life and the adventures it brought - whether it was haggling with merchants in Morocco or riding her motorcycle in T!
ofino, BC or Gimli, MB. Barbara climbed mountains in Nepal and glaciers in Patagonia. She travelled Canada from Dawson City to Pagnirtung to Halifax to Tofino for both work and fun. She worked on a kibbutz in Israel, a mushroom farm in Greece and in the City in London. Barbara was an accomplished photographer whose pictures of people and places around the world won recognition. Barbara always found and drew out the best of her subjects. She loved her home and neighbourhood of Commercial Drive. She loved movies, lattes, newspapers and most of all, discussions - any topic was game. Her wide-ranging experiences and knowledge gave her an amazing amount of expertise and information at her fingertips! Stories and experiences came alive for everyone listening when Barbara talked. Barbara loved her work as Manager, Information & Technology, Western Canada Service Center. She was especially happy working with the people at Parks & Heritage Canada who shared her interest in anthropolo!
gy and in keeping the Parks available to the public. She had a great respect for the service center management team and her informatics colleagues. She was proud to be part of the public service. Barbara and Brandy would like to thank everyone who sent flowers, cards, notes, food and called over the last month for your support and caring. We send many thanks to our friends and families. KARIYA _ Sonoye. Born September 19th, 1917 and passed away peacefully in Minoru Residence, Richmond, March 31st, 2004. Predeceased by her husband Yoshio and son George. Survived by her loving family, sons Victor (Suzanna) and Allan; daughters Betty (Yoshio), Gloria, Florence and Eleanor; grandsons Bradley and Daryl; granddaughter Phoebe; sisters Toshiko Sakauye and Chiyoko Kariya; sisters-in-law Ayako, Tsuneko and Kimiko; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. A heartfelt thanks to Dr. Bernadette Yuan and all the staff of Minoru Residence who gave special loving care. KLIM _ Alois, "Al", late of Aldergrove, B.C., passed away at New Westminster, B.C. on Wednesday, March 31, 2004. age of 69 years. Al, or "Louie, as he was known by some, is survived by Betty, his loving wife of 29 years. He leaves also his children, Wes and his wife Pat, Debbie and her husband Dennis and Gary and his wife Diane; his grandchildren, Brandi, David, Tracy, Darin, Shanon, Danille and Alexander. Al was predeceased by his twin brother Rudy. He leaves his remaining brothers, Richard and Karl and his sister Mitzi, as well as several nieces, nephews and many dear friends. An informal gathering of family and friends, in celebration of Al's life, will be held at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, April 7, at the Royal Canadian Legion, Br. 265, in Aldergrove. For those desiring, donations made in Al's memory to the B.C. Kidney Foundation would be most appreciated.

LAXA _ Anita D. Born in the Philippines on November 28, 1954, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2004, after a courageous battle with cancer. Anita is survived by her husband Wifredo and her son Wil. Her generosity and her caring nature will be lovingly remembered by her family and many friends. A viewing will take place on Saturday, April 3, 2004, 7:00 - 9:00PM and a Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, April 4, 2004, at Delta Funeral Home, 5329 Ladner Trunk Road, Delta, BC.


LENIHAN _ Janet Brown (nee Gardner) "Jenny", born May 09, 1930 passed away in her Port Coquitlam home on March 30, 2004 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Jenny was an elementary school teacher for many years in Cranbrook, Port Coquitlam and Coquitlam before retiring in 1972 to care for her family. She has spent the last ten years living on Sulphurous Lake in 100 Mile House with her husband of 33 years. Her warm heart and home cooking will be missed by all. She is survived by her husband Patrick, son Dwayne (Debbie) and granddaughter Madison, grandchildren Jonathan and Jessica, stepdaughter Cathy, many nieces and nephews, and close friends. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Crossroads Hospice Society. A Memorial service will be held at Trinity United Church in Port Coquitlam, 2211 Prairie Avenue on Tuesday, April 6, 2004 at 1:00 p.m.


LUM _ Victor (Gee Sow), aged 83 years. Born January 20, 1921, passed away March 29, 2004, in Vancouver. Beloved father of Glen (Pam), Al, Vicki, Gloria (Paul), Gina, Vincent (Cindy). Loving Grandfather of Bob, Doug, Brian, Matthew, Rachel, Amanda and Jennifer. He is also survived by brother Vernon (Ellen), sister Dixie, and his many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his sisters, Violet and Eva. Owned the Hong Kong Cafe with his brother Vernon, 1935 - 1992. Our father had an infectious smile, and a gentle, kind quiet spirit... we will forever cherish our memories of him. MacKENZIE _ Alexander Karr died peacefully in Lions Gate Hospital Sunday, March 21 2004, succumbing at last to the ravages of diabetes. Karr was pre-deceased on March 12, 2004 by his wife of over 56 years, Margaret Harrison MacKenzie (nee Allport) and in earlier years by his sister Jean (Davidson) and brothers Donald, Arthur, Glenn, Leslie, Russell and Lloyd MacKenzie. He is survived by daughter Norine McCaffrey (David); son Glenn (Marilou); son Douglas; daughter Heather Christie (Charles); grandson Scott McCaffrey (Beth), great-granddaughter Caitlin and great-grandson Brendan McCaffrey; granddaughter Jennifer McCaffrey, great-grandson Nikkie and great-granddaughter Allie Playle; grandsons Bradley and Kyle Christie; nieces Joan Todd (Ian), Jane Stent (Peter) and Sharman Edgett (Rob); nephews Colin MacKenzie and Kenneth MacKenzie (Lynda); MacKenzie sisters-in-law Shirley, Hilda and Vera; on Margaret's side of the family, sister-in-law Betty Webster (Steve); nephews Barry (Phy!
llis) and Peter (Sandra) Webster; and niece Sylvia Fockler (Ed); a large extended family and many friends world wide. Karr was born March 6, 1921 in Vancouver, the youngest member of eight children born to Alexander and Eunice MacKenzie. He attended Normal School where he received his teaching certificate, and after a year of teaching joined the RCAF. He took pilot training and served briefly overseas in twin-engine Anson bombers before being returned to Abbotsford where he spent the balance of his wartime service training pilots. He returned to teaching following the war, and retired as principal of Kerrisdale Elementary School. He was well known and highly respected as an educator. He fought and overcame both smoking and alcohol addictions in the space of one year, and became a staunch supporter of AA for the remainder of his active life. He married Margaret in 1948 and the two of them spent full lives raising their four children, enjoying their grandchildren and great-gra!
ndchildren, reveling in their Kihei Kai Nani condominium on Maui, the MacKenzie Cove family property at Centre Bay on Gambier Island, tennis and socializing at the Arbutus Club and their worldwide travels. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Thursday, April 8, 2004 at the Boal Chapel of First Memorial, 1505 Lillooet Rd., North Vancouver. McCRACKEN _ Mary of Surrey, B.C. passed away peacefully on April 1st, 2004 at the age of 95. Predeceased by her loving husband Thomas, son Allan. Survived by her loving family, grandchildren Trevor (Lisa) Jacques, Tom and Tracey Jacques and 5 great-grandchildren. No service by request.


McPHEE _ Rev. Edward Ian (Ted) died in Vancouver March 27th, 2004, aged 86. He is survived by his wife Margaret and son Gordon of Lachute, PQ; daughter-in-law Sue and grandchildren Heather and David (Janna) of Sexsmith, AB. Ted is predeceased by his son Ian on September 3rd, 1999. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, April 7th at 1:00 p.m. in St. John's (Shaughnessy) Anglican Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ratanak Foundation or the Union Gospel Mission.


NORTHARD _ Richard (Dick) passed away on March 31st, 2004 at the age of 84. Predeceased by his wife Helena Muriel. Survived by his 6 children Joanne (Bev), Richard (Judy), Brian (Cathy), Virginia (Bob), Rosemary (Jim) and Dorothy (George). PANNOZZO _ Giuseppe passed away peacefully on March 29th, 2004 at the age of 95 years. He is survived by his loving family, wife Crocefissa; children Emilia (Gerardo), Paolo (Anna Maria), Lucio; 6 grandchildren and their spouses; 9 great-grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren and their families and many relatives, nieces, nephews and friends. SCHAPANSKY January 21, 1981 - March 29, 2004 Chad Jerry Schapansky, age 23, of Clearwater, BC (formerly of 100 Mile House, BC) died while performing his duty as a firefighter on March 29, 2004. He will be lovingly remembered by his parents, Sue and Vic Meyer of 100 Mile House and Dan and Marlene Schapansky of Clearwater, and by longtime girlfriend, Nicole Waite. Also left with treasured memories are grandparents, Jerry and Sharon Schapansky, Elizabeth Morgan and Lois Moore; his sister Brandie-Lynn Schapansky of 100 Mile House; brother Jason Schapansky of Clinton, BC (formerly of 100 Mile House); step siblings, Belinda Rempel of Delta, BC, Kim Ma of Coquitlam, BC, Heather Luxton of Abbotsford, BC and Brandon Luxton of North Vancouver, BC, John and Jayne Stokes; aunts, Debbie, Kim and Kelly; many, many cousins; nephews, James, Alex and Marcus Rempel and Spencer Ma. Predeceased by his grandfather Gary Morgan. Chad enjoyed his childhood years growing up on the family ranch at 10!
0 Mile House, BC. His kind-heartedness led him to fire fighting, which became his passion. Chad enjoyed everything the outdoors had to offer. He was always willing to lend a helping hand when needed. Chad was a very outgoing, fun-loving soul who lived his short life to the fullest. He lived his recent years in Clearwater working with his Dad at the family building supply, and belonged to the Clearwater Volunteer Fire Department. In the short six years that Chad and his girlfriend, Nicole, lived in Clearwater, they made many friends and Chad endeared himself to everyone he met. We will all miss him greatly. The family extends special thanks to the Clearwater Volunteer Fire Department for all their help, and family and friends. SWANSON _ Carl Valfrid died March 20th, 2004, aged 95, in the Vancouver General Hospital. Born in Kalmar, Sweden, the second of six children to Sven and Hilda Svensson, Carl immigrated to Canada as a young man, working first in the lumber camps of Northern Manitoba before moving to British Columbia, where he worked as a tree faller for MacMillian Bloedel in Franklin River for 26 years. Carl was married for 55 years to Ethel (Hendrickson), who predeceased him in 1994. Carl loved all sports, particularly golf which he played everyday in retirement. He made several holes in one. He will be deeply missed by his niece, Helen Cook (Harold) and her family (Andrew, Caroline) Halifax and by his cousin, Thelma (Jay) Estle, Seattle and family (Lynn, Tim and families), and nephew, Bertil (Gun) Svensson, Kalmar, Sweden and many friends at Chalmers Lodge, where he lived for 30 years. Memorial service will be held today, April 2nd at Chalmers Lodge at 3:00 p.m.


WIGHTMAN _ Samuel Lorne "Sam" July 29, 1942 - March 30, 2004. Sam began his career in 1962, working his way up to Senior Project Manager in an engineering firm. He was proud of all he achieved in his life. He had a very strong work ethic and never let anything interfere with this belief. This is what made Sam the unique man he was. Sam put his energy into his career, fishing and travelling. He loved his family life, his wife Chris, his children, Kelly, Doug and Tina, his wife's children, Carla, Dustin and Todd, and his grandchildren, aged 14 months to 22 years. He had a special place in his heart for his sister Pat, and Ruth. Sam got great pleasure from playing hearts and fishing with his buddies. Thanks for the memories.


WILSON _ Ida Catherine, born March 5, 1916, slipped away peacefully, March 30, 2004, at 88 years of age. Predeceased by her husband Jack in 1996, she will be deeply mourned and lovingly remembered by her children, Bob, Harvey and Marie; grandchildren Cathy, Steve, Ken, Tony, Noel; great-grandchildren, Brodie, Keith, Felicia, Tessa, Kevin, Alyssa, Tyra; extended family and many wonderful friends. Ida was a loving mother, a devoted friend, and a gentle caring soul. Her family, friends and everyone who knew her will always remember Ida's enthusiasm for life and embracing personality with love and happiness. Her memory will be kept alive in all our hearts. She was an avid gardener and a florist by trade. Ida also loved nature and the outdoors, and was very talented in many facets of the arts.
