ASHCROFT _ Leslie Douglas (Doug) passed away peacefully, at the age of 74, at the Surrey
Memorial Hospital, on May 16, 2004. He will be greatly missed by all. He is survived by
his children, Doug (Elisabeth), John (Sonya), Robert (Deceased). Grandchildren, Brooke,
Kathy and Steve; his brother Jim Ashcroft; loyal companion Spot; friends, and friends in
the Trapshooting Community throughout the Province and the Western United States. The
Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, May 25, 2004 at 1:00AM, Delta Funeral Home,

DORNHECKER _ Friedrich Wilhelm, passed away peacefully in his home on May 17, 2004 after
a valiant battle with cancer. Fred was born in Germany on January 13, 1933, and came to
Canada in 1955. Survived by his wife and schatzi Chris, his brothers Theodor (Wilma) and
Bernd (Gudrun); mother-in-law Thelma Mercier; sisters-in-law Sandy Starr (Bob), Eleanor
Dufresne, Ginger Mitchell, Michelle Armstrong (Bill), Bonita Baranyi (Steve);
brothers-in-law Buster Mercier (Myrna), Chuck Mercier (Paula); many nieces and nephews,
great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. He is predeceased by his brother-in-law
Thomas Mitchell. Fred was passionate about international soccer, NHL hockey, old movies,
Spanish, gardening, oil painting, travel and music. He had an amazing recall for dates
and events, and loved to ponder hours over an atlas or dictionary. A Memorial Service
will be held on Saturday, May 22, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at Burquitlam Funeral Home, 625
North Road, Coquitlam. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Prostrate Centre at

EVANS _ Elizabeth (Elsie) Marie (nee Loftsgard) born in Kyle Saskatchewan, September 1,
1915, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2004 with her family at her side. She is fondly
remembered by her children: Bryan Jacobs, Jeri (Harry), Donna (Ken), Arne (Donna), Lois
(Don), Danny (Louise), Karl (Peggy) and daughter-in-law Donna D. Nana will be greatly
missed by her 18 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; sisters: Astrid, Ann and
brothers: Bjarne and Trygve. Predeceased by husband Peter, son Colin, grandson Ricky,
brothers Karl and Ralph, sisters Luella, Olga and her dear twin Alice. The family would

GOLIGHTLY _ Megan Elizabeth, 89, died peacefully Friday, May 14th, at her home in Port
Coquitlam. Megan was feisty, caring and fun loving, always quick with a witty remark.
For much of her life, she shared an active role with her husband in the United Church of
Canada. She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, the Rev. Frank Golightly.
Many wonderful memories are shared by her 3 daughters and their families: Joanne and
Albert Gaitens, Bronwen and Greg Cripps, Cherith Golightly and Jacques Boisvert, as well
as her grandchildren Tanis, Kathryn, Peter, Jordie, Liam, Kirsten, Julie, Etienne,
Sabine and two great-grandchildren, Michela and Elena. Her sister Marjorie (Keith)
Sedgeman, her brother Jack (Lorna) Griffiths, and brother-in-law Ralph Cairns also
survive her. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, May 22nd at Trinity
United Church in Port Coquitlam. Reception to follow at Amica at Mayfair. Donations, in

HARTLEY _ (Mickelson) (nee Andrews), Ida Florence Isabella, late of Eden Care Home,
Chilliwack, formerly of New Westminster, passed away May 15, 2004 at the age of 86
years. She was born April 30, 1918 in Archive, Saskatchewan. Jane of all tasks for
Marine Electronics, Burnaby, B.C. until medically retired due to a heart attack in 1977.
She loved travelling, enjoyed fishing and golfing. Ida moved from Moose Jaw to New
Westminster in 1939 to escape the cold winters. In retirement she lived in Cultus Lake
and Chilliwack and "snowbirded" in Yuma, Arizona. A Memorial Service will be held
Thursday, May 20, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Henderson's Funeral Home. Rev.
Charles Lenz officiated. Cremation, Valley Crematorium, Chilliwack with interment at
Fraser Cemetery, New Westminster. She is survived by her son Richard (Lee) Mickelson;
daughter, Linda Hartley; brothers, William (Marjory) Andrews; Ray (Dorothy) Andrews;
Gary (Cori) Andrews; sons-in-law, Don Blake and Alec Nemedy; grandchildren, Susan and

HURD _ William Lyle (Lyle 1910-2004) passed away with his spouse and friends at his
bedside on May 18th in Hamilton, Ontario. Predeceased by his wife Bea (nee Beatrice
Maude Mathews) and his younger brother Cecil, but survived by his long-term,
late-in-life love and partner, Naomi Wingfield; his children, Doug, Dianne, David and
Don, and numerous grandchldren. His love was his family and fishing, and he fished from
Egmont, then Pender Harbour, often by himself into his 90th year. Perhaps he's out
fishing now. Private ceremonies are planned, but if you wish, please make a donation to

HUURMAN _ Pieter M.A., born June 2, 1924 in the Hague, passed away May 17, 2004 in New
Westminster. Pieter is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Elisabeth "Lies"; his
son, Rick (Sandi), two grandsons, Greg and James, and a great-grandson, Aiden, as well
as a sister-in-law, Thilly. Pieter was known locally for his scenery and seascape
paintings and was a member of the CGA Association and the Netherlands Association. A
memorial service will be held at 2:30pm on Saturday, May 22, 2004 at Burkeview Family
Funeral Care, 1340 Dominion Avenue, Port Coquitlam. Flowers accepted or donations to the

JONES _ Ian Anthony, born February 10, 1934. A beloved husband, father and unbelievable
grump, went home to Jesus May 18, 2004 with all his family at his side. He leaves to
miss him, his wife of 49 years, Margaret Rose; his three children, Gareth (Jin), Deborah
(Brad), Theresa (Pat); and five grandchildren who lit up his life - Amanda, Morgan,
Rebecca, Jennifer and Denis. He will be missed more than words can say and by more
people than we can imagine. A celebration of his life will take place at Cariboo Hill
Salvation Army, 3195 Cariboo Hill, Burnaby at 2:00 pm Saturday, May 22nd. Donations to

KAMIYA _ Toneko born on March 13, 1913 passed away peacefully at Nikkei Home on May 16,
2004. She was born in Oya, Shizuoka Shi, Japan. Predeceased by her sister Tokie
Nakanishi, survived by sisters Hisa Sugiyama, Sueko Kamiya and Kanae Kamiya all in
Japan. Survived by her devoted and caring husband Jiro, sons Frank (Naomi), Archie

MANDER _ Gilbert George born February 10, 1938 in Toronto, Ontario passed away
peacefully on May 16, 2004 after a brave and valiant battle with cancer. Lovingly
remembered by his wife, Margaret of 30 years, daughter Heather (Jamie), sister
Lynn-Marie (Ab) and many other friends and family across Canada. Predeceased by his
parents Lillian and Norman, siblings Doug and Joan of Ontario. Gil began working in his
early teens in Toronto, Ont. After a stint working at the family Japanning business,
HMander & Co., Gil worked for the United Cigar Company which brought him to the Banff
Springs Hotel in Alberta. A natural entrepreneur, Gil owned various businesses and found
himself moving on to greater things eventually settling in BC. Gil had many friends in
the Kootnays, the Okanagan and the Lower Mainland. We will miss his warmth, sense of
humour and gentleness. He leaves behind a great legacy of friendship, love and
admiration. A true kind soul. Special thanks to SMH Palliative Care Unit and Dr. M.
Riesling who made his last days so comfortable and to the numerous hospital staff (VGH,
St. Paul's, & SMH) over the years that helped Gil in his fight with cancer and heart
disease. No service by request. A celebration in Gil's honour will be held on Saturday,
May 22, 3:00 pm at 9371 Granville Ave., Rmd. A donation to the Canadian Cancer Society

"A person is really never gone until there is no one left to remember them" MANNING _
Doris May (nee Hull) passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on
Wednesday, May 12th, 2004 in her 90th year. Beloved wife of the late H. Edward Manning,
she will be fondly remembered by their son Paul, his younger twin sister Elizabeth
(Walter Bethell), Catherine (James Fletcher) and Mary, and by their nine grandchildren,
Zack, Kathryn and Henry Manning, Michael and Jennifer Bethell, Brady, Andrea and Carly
Fletcher, and Sydney Simpson. Doris was an active and talented member of her church and
her community. Her many friends will remember the generous hospitality of her gracious
home and contributions such as her founding role in the Christmas Family Ball and the
Dr. Sun Yat Sen Gardens as well as her love of bridge, Les Girls' Investment Club, all
gardens and flowers. The family is especially grateful for the loving attention given
Doris by Lina and Ana, the compassion of Dr. Rod Andrew and the support and dignity
provided by the Palliative Care Team at St. Paul's Hospital (especially nurses Carol and

MILLER _ Alex It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Alex Miller
of Chilliwack B.C. on May 14, 2004. Alex was born December 6, 1920 in Spy Hill, Sask.
The family moved to Chilliwack in 1930. He married Dorothy Bible in 1942 and together
they raised six children. Alex was predeceased by Dorothy in 1981 and by his brother
David in 2004. Alex spent many years working on the family farm. He also worked on road
construction, moving furniture and selling farm equipment, acquiring many valued
friendships. On August 27, 1988 Alex married Gladys Heinz. He will be greatly missed and
lovingly remembered by his wife Gladys; half brothers Linn (Gerry) Somerville and Bill
Stephen; sons Bob (Sheri) Miller and Rick Miller; daughters Donna (Bob) Wilson, Barb
(Glen) Fetterly, Dale (Mike) Leonard, Shelley (Bruce) Honeyman; stepson Barry (Cheryl)
Heinz; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A celebration of Alex's life will
be held on Friday, May 21, 2004 from 2pm - 5pm at Atchelitz Hall, Lickman Road, Sardis

MOTT _ Kathleen Anne (Two Shawl Woman) December 27, 1954 - May 16, 2004. Predeceased by
her twin brother James (December 30, 1954); mother Marion (1997) and father Gordon
(1982). Survived by her very loving and supportive partner Douglas Nichol (Hus-Tu-ees);
brother Jack Morris (Kyoko); Gwyn Hill (Walter), and many nieces and nephews. Kathy's
life was her Sundance. A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, May 22nd, 10
am at the Boal Chapel of First Memorial, 1505 Lillooet Road, North Vancouver.

SABY _ Kevin passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, May 15, 2004 in Surrey BC at the age
of 42 years. Kevin will be greatly missed by his mother and father Annie and Gus Dion;
siblings Marvin (Leila), Kenny (Shirley), Maxine (Jerry), Darrel (Wendy); nieces,
nephews, many other family and friends including his coworkers at Brighter Mechanical.

SEIFRED _ Edward John, B.A., C.A. Surrounded by his loving family, Edward, aged 87,
passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 16, 2004 at the Victoria General Hospital,
following complications from a stroke three days earlier. Edward's vigour, charm and
spirit touched many lives. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 61 years,
Dorothy; son John of Vancouver; daughter Anne Kirkaldy, husband Ron and grandchildren
Ewan and Allison of Victoria; son Bruce, wife Sandra Sobko and grandson Stefan of
Calgary; and son Grant, wife Marilyn and grandchildren Alexander and Natasha of
Burlington, Ont. He is predeceased by his eldest son Ted (1988). He leaves siblings,
Hank (Gloria) and Esther Lockhart (Laurie), as well as many friends and extended family
across Canada. We'll miss his kindness and encouragement, buoyant optimism, beaming
smile and corona of white hair. In his words, we were "absolutely delighted" by his
wonderful "subdued and humble" presence in our lives. A service in remembrance of
Edward's life will be held on Friday, May 21 at 2 p.m. at First Memorial Funeral
Services, 4725 Falais Drive, Victoria, followed by a reception.In lieu of flowers,

TOADER _ Our beloved mother and grandmother ILEANA TOADER passed away on May 15th, 2004.
Her funeral will be held at Ocean View Funeral Home in Burnaby on May 21st, 2004 at 3:00
p.m. She will always be missed by daughter Michelle and her husband Jack, granddaughter
Raluca and grandsons Ali and Mark, as well as the many friends and relatives she had,

WATSON _ Matthew Robert Bob died May 16th, 2004 at the MSA Hospital, Abbotsford, B.C.
five days after the death of his wife of 61 years, his beloved Nellie. Both will be
interred at the Masonic Cemetery, 4305 Halifax St., Burnaby, B.C. on Saturday, May 22nd
at 2:00 p.m. Bobby was born in the Whitehorse General Hospital September 12, 1915, the
eldest child of Hazel and Matthew Watson, Yukon Pioneers. Bob was raised in Carcross,
with siblings Bill, Jean (Scotty) and Douglas joining the family in turn while their
parents operated a General Store, Fox and Mink Fur Farm and Rental Cabins. Bob worked
with his father at the Store and Ranch until 1942 when he started towing barges of logs
for the U.S. Army and general contractors during the building of the Alaska Highway.
Bobby met Nellie in 1941 when Nell came north to further her nursing career. They were
married on April 26, 1943 in Carcross. He and Nellie stayed in Whitehorse until 1959,
when they moved to Carcross and bought Matthew Watson General Store from Bob's Dad. Bob
joined the Masons in 1948 and maintained an interest in the work all these years. Bob
and Nell retired to Abbotsford, B.C. in 1990 where they enjoyed their retirement years
in a friendly and comfortable environment. There and in the North, Nellie and Bob were
visited many times by family, friends and acquaintances. Bob is mourned by his brother
Douglas and wife Janet, special niece Janie Brown and her husband Larry, and many nieces
and nephews and their families.

WATSON _ Nellie Oke. Nellie died peacefully in the MSA Hospital, Abbotsford, BC on
Tuesday, May 11th, 2004. Born Nellie Rideau Oke on February 28th, 1916, in Oka, Quebec.
Her parents, Peter Oke and Mary Simon, died when she was an infant. Nellie was raised by
an aunt and uncle until she was eight. She then lived in the Anglican Church School near
Cornwall, ON, joining her three older sisters. Nellie was very proud to be a graduate
nurse from the Victoria Hospital, London, ON, class of 1940. Nellie met Bob while
nursing at the Chooutla School in Carcross, Yukon. They were married in Carcross on
April 26, 1943. For the next 16 years Nellie nursed at the Whitehorse General Hospital.
She was a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Whitehorse Chapter. From 1959 to
1982 Nellie was Bob's partner, running their store in Carcross. She nursed part-time
with Public Health for this village. In 1990 Nellie and Bob retired to Abbotsford, BC,
enjoying living in their condo community. Nellie was predeceased by her seven siblings.
She leaves to mourn Douglas, her brother-in-law with wife Janet, Janie and Larry Brown,
and many nieces and nephews and their families. There will be a graveside service at the
Masonic Cemetery, 4305 Halifax St., Burnaby, BC, Saturday, May 22nd at 2:00pm.

WHITE _ Elizabeth "Betty" (nee Poznachuk) passed away peacefully at Rosewood Center in
Langley on May 13, 2004, at the age of 81. She was predeceased by her loving husband of
over 40 years, Cornelius (Neil). Her compassion for children and sense of humor will be
sadly missed by all. Services to be held on Thursday May 20, 1:00 PM at First Memorial
Chapel, 602 Kingsway, Van BC.
WILKINSON _ Phyllis Annie (nee Pellett), born in Victoria on July 26, 1912, passed away
peacefully at home on May 16, 2004. Phyllis is survived by her loving husband, Noel; her
daughter, Iris (Rudi Seifert); grandchildren, Jacqueline (Brian Kaye), Suzanne (David
Logan), Julie (Kevin O'Shea) and great-grandchildren, Joel, Brendin, Sarah, Andrew,
Kayla, Emily and Samantha, as well as her large extended family. Mom will be sadly
missed by all whose lives she touched throughout her 91 years. A service to celebrate
her life will be held at First Memorial Funeral Chapel, 1155 Fort Street on Friday, May

13, 2004, at the age of 61. Predeceased by his father Frank. Lovingly remembered and

(Melinda), and two grandchildren, Piper and Felix; his loving mother Rona; siblings,
Ruth, John (Jeanne), Peter (Tina), and nephews and nieces in New Zealand. Frank was the
President of CitiWest consulting in Surrey, a company he formed in 1987. Funeral service
