LEE _ David Ronald, died peacefully August 16, 2004, in hospital in Ladner, BC,
following a long and hard-fought battle with cancer. He was predeceased by his sister,
Linda, in 1967; and his parents, Dorothy (nee Thirsk), in 1995 and Ron Lee, in 2002. He
is survived by his aunt, Doris Tolmie of Edmonton, Alberta; and cousins Keltie Tolmie
and Dallas Thirsk, also of Edmonton, Cathy (Bill) McTaggart and Gail (Don) Dodwell of
Red Deer, Alberta, and Norah Tolmie of Brandon, Manitoba; as well as many close friends,
including Judy Clarke of Richmond, BC, who helped him so much during the last few months
of his life. David was born in Edmonton June 24, 1946, and lived in Stettler, Alberta,
until 1958 when the Lee family moved to Vancouver to obtain better medical treatment for
his sister Linda. He graduated from Lord Byng High School in 1964 and earned B. Comm.
(1970) and MBA (1972) degrees from the University of British Columbia. During his
university years, he spent six wonderful summers, 1965 through 1970, working at the
Banff Springs Hotel. In those years, the hotel was open mid-May through mid-September
(the first full year operations began 1969/70) and was staffed by several hundred
university students who lived in the hotel or adjacent annexes; staff life was a
summer-long celebration during which David formed many lifelong friendships. His first
post-university employment was with a major oil company; however, most of his career was
spent in the travel industry, starting with Wardair, which transferred him from
Vancouver to Toronto in 1975. A significant high point of his career was being one of
the three founders of GIANTS Travel's Canadian operations in 1984. He remained with
GIANTS until 1997 when he chose to move back to Vancouver to live with his widowed
father who was in declining health. He never regretted that decision, and said, in his
father's eulogy: "I was very fortunate to not only have one of the very best Dads a son
could hope for but also to be able to share these last five years with him, during which
we became more than just father and son ... we became best buddies!" David was a
dedicated and excellent golfer, beginning in high school and continuing until just a few
months before his death. In April, he achieved a longstanding objective when he moved
into a bright and beautiful float home in Ladner, and in June he bought a "zodiac" boat
which he kept moored at his side door and used for excursions on the river and ocean.
Above all, David was a courageous, thoughtful and gracious man with a fine, often
self-deprecating, sense of humour. These qualities endured through his final illness, as
the many friends and family members who contacted him during this period will attest.
David has been cremated and his ashes will be scattered, as he had wished, in places
that were dear to him in British Columbia and Alberta. He did not want a memorial
service, but preferred that "Irish wakes" be held in Vancouver and Toronto. Dates for
these have not yet been finalized. Donations in David's memory can be made to the David
R. Lee Endowment Fund for Prostate Research or the David. R Lee Endowment Fund for ALS
Research, 570 St. Andrews Place, West Vancouver, BC, V7S 1V8, or to a charity of the
donor's choice.

In Loving Memory of James H. Kemp December 20, 1930 - September 1, 2003 Memories don't
fade, they just grow deep For you, whom we loved but could not keep We hold our tears
when we speak your name But the ache in our hearts remains the same. No one knows the
sorrow we share When the family meets and you're not there. We laugh, we smile and we
play our parts, Behind it all lies broken hearts. Unseen, unheard, you're always near So
loved, so missed, so very dear, Just as you were, you will always be Forever treasured
in our memory. _We love and miss you.....Your family

In Memory of Ugo Palmiro Rizzo March 28, 1920 - August 30, 2003 Loving Husband, Father

God with all our hearts for yesterday and you. Dad, You will always be at the head of
our table, our sons always proud to carry your name. _Forever missed by your
family....xox
