the 18th century, and helped open British Columbia's Interior. Her mother's family -
Lambly - and her father's - Crichton - were part of the life of the Okanagan Valley from
the first days of white settlement. Beginning in the 1870's they carved out a place for
themselves as ranchers, fruit farmers and entrepreneurs. By the 1900's, many other
families had set up near the Crichtons in the booming Okanagan. Among them was the
Renfrew family of Quebec, Whose son Clifford would later become Kathleen's great love.
Kathleen's life bridged the twentieth century with the twenty-first, and she witnessed
the development of modern Canada from the quiet place she shared with Cliff at the side
of lake Okanagan. Her family and friends cherish the memory of her loving company and
generous hospitality in that house amid the pines at Okanagan Mission. An artist,
Kathleen felt a deep attachment to the landscape of her native province. She was
happiest while sketching a mountain lake with her husband fishing nearby. Kathleen
brought to life her feelings for the beauty of our country in watercolour paintings of
great sensitivity. Kathleen's family wishes to thank the staff of Eden House and Dr.
Maharaj, for the skillful and compassionate care that made Mrs. Renfrew's final years so

ROGER FERNAND BLANCHETTE _ - December 29, 1930 - August 31, 2004, died after heroically
battling asbestosis for more than 4 years. Roger never complained and lived his life to
his fullest ability, always with a smile and a sense of humor. Born in Quebec City,
Roger was the baby in a family of 4 children. As a young man he struck out with a friend
and headed West. After a brief time in Ontario working in logging and construction,
Roger headed for Vancouver. He did not speak much English but he knew how to work hard
and his search for work landed him in the Yukon. Roger spent from 1953 to 1965 in
Cassiar and Whitehorse where he made many good friends and met Barbara. Roger worked for
the mine in Cassiar driving the man-haul and ore trucks and then later for White Pass &
Yukon Route (Transport Division) out of Whitehorse. Shortly after having their son
Steven in Whitehorse, they moved to Lantzville on Vancouver Island where they had their
daughter Diane. Roger worked for Imperial Oil Limited out of Departure Bay, Nanaimo from
1965 until he retired in 1986. Roger enjoyed square dancing, fishing, camping and
traveling with Barbara. In retirement he was able to pursue his longtime passion as a
Morse code and Ham radio operator with the local Amateur Radio club in nearby
Parksville. Roger enjoyed simple pleasures, family and friends, fixing anything and
everything, good food (especially maple sugar products) and his role as Grampa to his
little Pootsie. Roger was the proud husband to Barbara, father to Steven (Catherine
Scoffield) and Diane (Steve Page), Grampa to Ella, brother-in-law to David Gillespie
(Astrid), brother to Therese Allard, Pauline Gagne, predeceased by Paul Blanchette.
Roger was a loving Uncle to many wonderful nieces and nephews and a good friend and
gentle soul to all that knew him well. No funeral service by request. There will be a
gathering on Sunday, October 3rd at Schooner Cove in the Anchor Room from 2-4pm where
family, friends and colleagues are invited to share their warm and numerous memories of
Roger. Donations to the BC Lung Association would be appreciated if desired

SCARABELLI _ Robert (Bob) Daniel Mario July 13, 1955 - September 8, 2004 With profound
and deep sadness we announce the tragic and sudden passing of Bob Scarabelli, at the
too-soon age of 49. A titanic pioneer for over twenty-five years in the BC Film
industry, Bob was President and CEO of Rainmaker Productions, his 'baby', which he
nurtured to become one of the largest and most highly respected post-production
companies in North America. Mere words cannot describe the immense and overwhelming loss
to his cherished wife and best friend, Luci, and their adored children, Taylore and
Keaton. Bob also leaves his beloved family, parents Andy and Anne; sisters Joan, Karen
(Don Ferguson), their children, Kendra and Gina, Linda (Gary Vollhoffer), their
children, Marina Douglas and Drew, Andrea (Ross Saito), their children, Joshua and
Colton, his mother-in-law Margaret Bos, brother-in-law, Mitchel (Michelle), their
children, Linzi, Joel and Lewis, and brother-in-law Nick. Beyond these treasured figures
in Bob's life, countless friends, colleagues and associates in his community, the film
industry and his life, acutely mourn his loss. A consummate professional, Bob put his
entire heart into the film industry, and in particular to growing and enriching the BC
Film community. Debuting at BCTV after receiving his education at Capilano College, his
developing career took him to Vancouver Island, Washington State, Singapore, South East
Asia and Amsterdam, touching people's hearts in the four corners of the world, before
settling back in Vancouver to create Rainmaker in 1994; his colleagues and employees
were his other 'family', all of whom hold him dear. He credited a large amount of his
success to the years he spent learning and working his craft at Gastown Productions in
the 1980's. Bob's devotion to his wife, children, family, friends and his community was
extraordinary and unconditional. An avid yachtsman and longtime coach of Dunbar Little
League, Dunbar Soccer and West Side Girls Softball, Bob will be fondly remembered by his
boating pals and the team members and their families that he coached. "Big Bad Bob"
lived life large and with gusto, his favourite places were with his family, manning the
barbeque, entertaining he and Luci's many friends; an ordinary guy, an extraordinary
man, fond of saying: "Here's to trouble, and gettin' out of it." A celebration of Bob's
life will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, September 15, 2004, St. Andrew's Wesley
Church, 1012 Nelson Street (at Burrard), Vancouver. Reception to follow at the Sheraton
Wall Centre, 1088 Burrard St. Flowers gratefully declined, donations in Bob's name can
