COOKE, Rita Gaylor in her 85th year, passed away peacefully at the Homer Pavilion on December 4, 2004, following a three-month illness. She was predeceased by her husband and best friend, Ernest Arthur on June 22, 1979. Mom, a lady of uncommon grace, generosity and compassion will be sorely missed by her son Terry (Ann), grandchildren Timm (Erin) and Sandal (Kevin), and great grandchildren Catriona and Cayden, all of Gold River, BC. Our family would like to thank the caring and dedicated nursing staff on Homer 2 and Dr's G. McLean and Argouarch. ESTLIN, Charles Eustace (Charlie) August 13, 1918 December 4, 2004 Peacefully after a lengthy illness. Loved dearly by wife Esmee of 63 years, daughters Sally (Bill) Jennejohn, Judy (Hank) Yates, grandchildren Lesley (Tom) Ruby, Leila (Greg) Hamilton, Ross McEachern, great grandchildren Hannah and Gage Ruby, many nephews, nieces, family and friends. Predeceased by grandson Mike Jennejohn. Charlie was Chief Conservation Officer for the B.C. Dept. of Recreation and Conservation from 1962 until 1978. He earlier served with the BC Provincial Police as traffic patrol and as police photographer. His loves of flying, boating, and skiing will always be remembered as integral parts of his life. He cared deeply for others. The family wishes to thank Charlie's caregivers both at home and at Victoria General for their kindness and able support during the latter part of his illness. GAULEY, Steven Robert Passed away after a lengthy Illness at home in Victoria on December 3, 2004. Predeceased by his brother Jeffery; he is survived and will be missed by his companion of 22 years Charmaine and her family, parents John and Marion; siblings Mark and Anita; along with other relatives and friends. A hard worker, Steve leaves many fond memories of his quiet, kind and loving nature. A service will take place in the spring. 18569

McWILLIAMS, Warren Finley Warren, born in Summerland, B.C. on June 5, 1916, passed away at the Capilano Care Centre in West Vancouver on December 5, 2004 at the age of 88. He was the eldest son of Lloyd and Mamie McWilliams and was a student at Lord Byng High School. He first went to sea as a crewman on the Canadian National coastal steamer, Prince Rupert. He later worked for the Canadian Pacific Railway and joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1940. He met his future wife, Ingrid Grafstrom, at St. Helen's Anglican Church AYPA group and they were married there in 1941. He served on the convoy escort vessel, HMCS Sault Ste Marie on the North Atlantic from 1942 to 1944. After the war, he went back to the CPR, initially in Moose Jaw, but he returned to Vancouver in 1946. He entered the insurance business with the Robert S. Day & Sons Company and later joined the Guardian Assurance Company, with whom he moved to Victoria. The family expanded to include five children, so their home !
became a neighbourhood source of warmth and lively activity. Warren travelled the length and breadth of Vancouver Island on business and made friends wherever he went. He and Ingrid moved to Comox in 1980 where Warren operated the Guardian branch office, he then joined Comox Valley Insurance and opened their Comox office. He was active in the Kiwanis Club and served the Courtenay Kiwanis Club as President and then as Lieutenant-Governor of Division 15. He was active in Meals on Wheels, Comox Valley Hospice and Emergency Preparedness, and was involved on the board of the Comox Valley Family Life Association which he served as Chairman. He was an active and loyal member of the Anglican church at both the Victoria and Courtenay churches of St. John the Divine. Warren was a modest and kind man of integrity, decency, honour and great good humour. He was always interested in everyone he met so that seniors on his Meals on Wheels rounds, hospital patients, loggers or fishermen he !
met in pubs, fellow passengers on the ferries anyone would come away f
eeling that they had made a friend. As well as enjoying good music Warren read voraciously and was always interested in current events and in finding people with whom he could discuss his current interest. He was a wonderful husband and brother, father and grandfather. Warren was truly "an inspiration to us all" as he was often told. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the wonderful staff of the 3rd floor of the Capilano Care Centre for the loving care and attention they always gave to Dad. Warren is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Ingrid, at the Capilano Care Centre in West Vancouver. REID, Diane It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our Mom and Grammy, Mrs. Diane Marie Campbell Reid of Victoria, after a long brave battle with cancer, she passed away with her family by her side. Born in Victoria in 1929, to her parents Judge Gordon and Grace Campbell, Diane spent her childhood years growing up in Port Alberni, BC. Obtaining her teaching certificate, she taught in Vernon then later in Victoria for many years. While in Victoria she met and married the love of her life, Stuart Ellis Reid. They were married in 1953 and raised three children. Diane was a devoted swim club mom and boy scout leader. Diane retired from teaching at Doncaster Elementary School in 1993. In later years she found in gardening much joy. Diane will be sadly missed by all who knew her, including her family of Salsbury Way. Predeceased by her husband Stuart in 1981 she is survived by sons, Matthew Reid of Victoria, Greg Reid and his wife Susan and their daughter Dayna and so!

ROBBINS, Claudia Elfreda Born to Edith and Robert Jesse in 1917, Victoria, B.C. Passed away peacefully in her daughters' arms at Victoria Hospice on her 87th birthday, December 4th, 2004. Predeceased by her husband, Jack Robbins in 1989, her sister, Phyllis Boak in 1994 and her son-in-law, Barrie Pearce in 2001. Claudia leaves her devoted and loving family: daughters, Shaaron Pearce of Nelson and Susan Crow (Albert) of Victoria; 4 grandchildren, Charmaine Sabo (Dave), Darren Pearce (Nikkole), Michelle Crow and Heather Crow; 5 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, friends and her companion, Clifford Brown. Born into a pioneer family, Claudia was the great-granddaughter of Capt. William Henry McNeill (SS Beaver, Hudson's Bay Company). Educated at Girls Central School, Victoria High School and Victoria College, she was a popular, athletic student who went on to become a legal secretary at Marchant and Tait. She met and married her husband in Victoria in 1944, whereupon !
they soon began their successful business ventures and family life. They owned and operated Hertz Rent A Car, Esso Service Stations and Robbins Parking Service until their retirement in the 80's. They enjoyed cottage life at Shawnigan Lake, boating in local waters and wintering in Hemet, California. She was a member of Capital City Yacht Club, Union Club of Victoria, Uplands Golf Club and Probus. Sincere thanks to her caregivers, especially Cora Constantino, Rosalie Tarlit and Shoney Cabellon for their skillful, compassionate care. SCOTT, Avis Louise On 3rd December 2004, Avis Louise Scott, of Heffley Creek, B.C. passed away at the age of 86. She was born in Leney, Saskatchewan on May 27, 1918. Avis lived in Victoria for over 54 years before coming to live with her daughter Claudia (Jake) Ellis. She was predeceased by son, Clayton in 1957; first husband Ira Earl Boucher in 1958 and second husband Dacre Scott in 2003. She is survived by daughter Claudia (Jake) Ellis; sisters Gladys Vale, in Port Alberni; Maude Stanley, in Saskatoon; grandchildren, Tammy Flegg, Earl (Colleen) Flegg, Mike (Calia) Ellis, 7 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. STEFANEK, Chester Chester died peacefully Dec 2, 2004 in Victoria and is survived by son, Don (Phyllis), grandsons Adrian and Kyle, step-daughter Loretta Deutscher, granddaughter Noreena, sisters Olga Wallach, Anne Stefanek and Helen Ewasiuk as well as extended family. Chester was born in Poland June 5, 1919, immigrated to Canada aged 10 and served with honour in the Royal Canadian Air Force during WWII. After the war, Chester retained as an aero engine mechanic, re-enlisted in the Air Force to serve as a Leading Aircraftman from 1952-55. Chester returned to Victoria, became a carpenter and built several sturdy homes in Victoria. A devout Catholic, faithful member of Sacred Heart Parish, to his earthly end Chester passionately pursued an understanding of life's mysteries through the teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ. TEDLIE, Margaret Mary After a long illness, passed away at the Saanich Peninsula Hospital at 3:00 am, December 6th in her 88th year. Margaret was the dearly beloved wife and 65 year companion of Jim, the devoted mother of Jane (Ian Struthers), Judi (Richard Stursberg), and Jennifer (Bill Pike), and a loving grandmother to Joel, Alexander, Jessamy, and Annie, all of whom brought joy to her life. Margaret, a veteran of World War II, where she served in the WRNS, was for 33 years a member of the Royal Canadian Legion where she was chairperson of the Poppy Campaign on two occasions. Active in municipal, provincial and federal politics, Margaret served as the volunteer office manager of the Saanich Gulf Islands Progressive Conservative Association for six years. She was presented with the MacDonaldCartier Achievement Award by the Prime Minster in 1991. She had a long-term commitment to the Peninsula Community Association, now Peninsula Community Services, serving in various capac!
ities since that organizations inception. In 2002, Margaret was presented with the Golden Jubilee Medal for service to her community. One time part-owner of "The Holly Tree", a womens dress shop, she was a great booster of Sidney encouraging people to support local merchants and associations. Margaret was a one-time spousal member of the Canadian Institute of International Affairs, and a continuing spousal member of the Federal Superannuates Association. She a great interest in the world around her and had a wide knowledge of Canadian life. At Margarets request there will be no memorial service but her family will be at home at 2289 Adela Place in Sidney on Thursday, December 9, from 2-5 pm ,and would be grateful if you could drop in and share their remembrances of a beloved wife, mother and grandmother. The family wishes to thank Dr. E. Cadger and the staff of the Saanich Penninsula Hospital who treated Margaret with much care and kindness during her final days. Heartfelt !
