Jim had a varied career as a banker, fish farmer, business consultant, and international trade commissioner with the Canadian Embassy in Beijing, China. Throughout his life, he enjoyed many opportunities for exotic travel and wonderful friendships. Jim enjoyed few things more than sharing a bottle of good wine an!
d conversation. His friends around the world will remember his sense of humour, his gregariousness and his generosity. Jim remained at home during his lengthy struggle with this devastating disease, where he had a view of the Vancouver harbour he loved. He was a symbol of grace under pressure and courageously faced his illness. He is free and at peace at last. The family would like to thank all of those who have been so wonderfully supportive. A special thanks is extended to his personal care givers for their dedication and love. As one friend said, Jim faced his fate with the same determination and good nature that he always brought to life. A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 8 at 10:30am in the Boal Chapel at First Memorial Funeral Services, 1505 Lillooet Rd., North Vancouver. Gunn, Elizabeth Burns "Beth"
GUNN, Elizabeth Burns "Beth " (nee McNair) Mrs. D.B. Gunn passed away in the early morning hours of Saturday, March 26, 2005 at the age of 83. Beth was born in the Royal Jubilee Hospital on March 19, 1922, the daughter of James and Jessie McNair. The family lived on Kings Road and Scott Street before moving to Clive Drive in 1939. Beth attended Oaklands School and Victoria High. During the war years, she worked for the provincial government in the Department of Vital Statistics. Beth valued the many close friendships that she developed in her school and working years and maintained these connections throughout her life. In the spring of 1945, she met a young RCAF officer who was stationed at Patricia Bay. She married, Donald Begley Gunn after a whirlwind wartime romance. Don remained in the service and while they lived in Vancouver, Moncton, Medicine Hat, Winnipeg, Port Arthur, Calgary and Ottawa, she always regarded Victoria as her home. When Don retired from his position a!
s a manger with the Civil Service Credit Union in Ottawa, they returned to Victoria to live in Beth's family home in Oak Bay. After Don's passing in 1987, Beth moved around the corner to York House where she enjoyed the companionship of the other residents. Beth was a lively, sharp, independent woman, who enjoyed travel, shopping, playing bridge and exploring new restaurants around Victoria. She took a great deal of pride in helping to manage her co-op apartment and in being involved in local issues. Beth loved going out with her friends, excursions with the Monterey Seniors and dinners with her family. She led by example, teaching those around her about the finer things in life, and showing them that in your 80s you aren't too old to carry a cell phone or learn how to use a computer. Sons, Donald (Jennifer) and Malcolm, and grandchildren, Alison (Michael Sheehan), Andrew, Matthew, Michael, Gregory, and Christianne will all sorely miss their Mom and Grandma. The family woul!
d like to express a special thank you to all the staff of 6B (South) a

WESCOTT, Alfred James December 20,1911 March 24, 2005 Alfie passed away Thursday March 24, 2005. Predeceased by wife Mickey, brother Buzz, sisters Thelma and Hazel. Survived by son Victor (Donna) daughters Diane (Ted) and Sharron, numerous grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. Born in Victoria and lived in Victoria all of his life, Alfie was well known in the construction industry as a Lathing and Acoustical ceiling tile contractor. Alfie was always his own man, had his own way of doing things, was a snappy dresser and loved trading in cars. Both Alfie and Mickey took up golf at middle age and golf and the many good friends that came with it formed a large and joyful part of their lives. Alfie and Mickey never ceased to regale the family, especially the grandchildren, with their colourful stories of the "good old days"! Their wonderful ability to memorize a lot of history never ceased to amaze the youngsters and that resource will be sadly missed. Alfie goes to join his belo!
ved Mickey, Mother Ethel and Father Russell at the family resting place. A celebration of Alfie and Mickey's lives will be held Saturday April 23, 2005 at Colwood Golf Club at 3:00 p.m. Flowers are gratefully declined, hold the tears, bring the smiles and remember the good times. That was our Mum and Dad! We miss them and will never forget them. 59821
