DODD (KAY) Catherine- Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland on August 22, 1918, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2005, in the Palliative Care Unit of Nanaimo Regional General Hospital. Kay is predeceased by her husband Doug and her sisters Maureen, Elizabeth and Josie. She is survived by daughter Linda Vickie (Bob) Gurr, son Gary (Suzanne) and grandchildren: Trevor (Brenda) Gurr, Catherine (Stephen) Gurr, Kevin Gurr, Kiara Siobhan Dodd, Garrett Dodd and step-grandsons Cam and Logan. She is also survived by her brother Brendan (Chris) of Belfast and her dear sister-in-law Hazel of Osoyoos, as well as her devoted friend Mary Smith of Nanaimo. She is also fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews in British Columbiaand Ireland. Kay had a very active life. She served as a nurse in WWII in London during the Blitz, where she met and married Doug who was serving there with the Canadian Army. In 1944 she came to Canada as a war bride and raised her family in Burnaby and continued !
her career as a paediatric nurse at Royal Columbian Hospital, New Westminster. Kay and Doug retired to Nanaimo in 1974. Kay continued her caring ways as an active member of Nanaimo's Heart Fitness Group where she and Dr. Chambers comprised the medical team for over twenty years. 0002000003EA000005023E4,Kay enjoyed a very active retirement, participating in the War Brides Association and Saint Peter's Roman Catholic Church (Catholic Women's League). She was active with the Nanaimo Seniors, participating in Tai Chi, line and folk dancing, yoga and other activities. She was always special to her grandchildren and took great delight in the travels and adventures of Trevor, Catherine and Kevin. In the past few years she was devoted to Kiara and Garrett, and they will all miss her love and interest she took in their lives. To Drs. Colbourne and McLeod, and the Palliative Care Nurses at NRGH, our thanks for your kind and compassionate care.Prayers for Kay will be observed at 7pm, !

BLAKESTON, GRACE Townsend: Born in Vancouver June 15, 1911, passed away April 11, 2005 to be with her Lord and Saviour. She is predeceased by her wonderful parents Jack and Sarah Smedley. Grace's devoted husband, Howard, is left to mourn her passing. Howard never missed a day at her side in their whole married life. Many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews loved their Auntie Grace for her shared love. Grace was a past member of Trinity Chapter. She was grand organist many times at Grand Chapter sessions for the Order of the Eastern Star and was organist and life member of Crescent Chapter No. 10 in Nanaimo at the time of her passing. She was an outstanding member for 77 years. Thank you to Dr. Kemp, the staff at Nanaimo Regional Hospital and Dufferin Place. Your excellent care was so appreciated. SUNDBERG, F. Jean born July 04, 1922 in Casper Wyoming, passed away April 04, 2005 in Nanaimo Hospital. Surviving are her 2 Daughters; Diana (John) English, and Barbara (Alec) McPherson, 5 Grandchildren and 2 great Grandchildren. After 20 years with B.C. Ferries, Jean retired as Second Steward with an Industrial First Aid Ticket in 1987 where she then devoted all her time to her passions for sewing, knitting, crocheting and gardening on her farm in Cedar where she lived for 62years. A graveside service will be held Saturday, April 23 at 10:00 A.M. at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens followed by a gathering of Remembrance at 1:30 P.M. in Mount Benson Funeral Home, 125-Wallace Street, Nanaimo. SINGBEIL, CLARA Camellia (nee Munro) passed away peacefully April 12, 2005 in Nanaimo, BC. Clara was born in Coronation Alta. on December 17, 1923. She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, William (Bill). She leaves two sons, Frank (Anne) and Don (Charlene), also seven grandchildren Jenna, Lindsay, Kristin, Carly, Jeff, Kyle and Caitlin. Clara was a well-known and respected member of our community. She volunteered for many organizations including more than 59 years with the Canadian Red Cross. She received countless awards for her community service: Volunteer of the Year 1996, the Vancouver Island Human Rights Medal and was named Outstanding Canadian Citizen in 1992 to name a few. She was known to many as 'Mrs. Claus', Santa's favorite helper, as she and her husband 'Santa' Bill entertained hundreds of children over the years. Due to her failing health, Clara spent her last years in Nanaimo Traveller's Lodge and the family would like to thank all the staff for thei!

MACDOUGALL: IVAN DUNCAN Born June 6th, 1927 ~ passed away April 9th, 2005. Survived by the mother of his children Beverley Neil. Children: Heathir Rhyasen; Dawn (Bill) Dryden; Bruce MacDougall; Laure (Jaret) Clay, niece Anne Marie Michie and great niece Michelle (John) Capobianco, grandchildren: Skye, She, Rhiannon, Tegan, Sara, Tyler, Aislinn, Gabrielle, Katia, Armin John, and great grandchildren Daymian, Isobel and Sophia. Throughout the many trials dealt him in life, he never lost his incredible wit and great sense of humor. He will be dearly missed. REYNOLDS, GEORGE Murray, born in Nanaimo, BC on June 21, 1945, passed away at home on April 8, 2005, quietly, peacefully and held lovingly by his wife Tuija. Following a seven month battle with cancer fought with courage and his typical tenacity and strength he overcame all, but his final challenge. George is predeceased in death by his parents, C. Murray Reynolds and Ann McLean Reynolds. He is survived by his loving family: wife Tuija, sister Ann Marie Hewer (Ken), nephews Kenneth (Rie) and Robert (Ayako) Hewer, niece Cheryl Hewer. Dearly missed and lovingly remembered by father and mother-in-law Oke and Sirkka Laitinen, sisters-in-law Monica Fransen, Nina Nordal (Roy), nieces; Christina Balcom (Aaron), Karrie Ann Parker (Tim), Teresa Fransen, Pauline Nordal and nephew Roy Nordal Jr. (Misty). George enjoyed a successful career in sporting goods sales on Vancouver Island by car and to remote areas along BC's coast up to the Queen Charlotte Islands by his own float plane. He !
truly enjoyed his time as a flying salesman and had many interesting adventures he loved to share with family and friends, often taking us along for the ride. Especially remembered and appreciated was his great sense of humour and quick wit. George lived in a wonderful neighborhood for the past thirty-two years, enjoying the love and comfort of his good neighbours during the past difficult seven months. Honoring George's wishes there will be no service. Anyone so wishing may make donations in his memory to the Burn Unit of Royal Jubilee Hospital, Victoria, BC or to the Canadian Red Cross. Thank you to family and friends who helped during this very hard time and special thanks to Dr. M. Pereira, Rosemary, community nurse Angela Robertson, neighbours Joan Loudoun, Beryl Hamilton, friends; Rhondda and Chris Sellars, Sandy and Tom La Pointe who came from Edmonton, Alberta to help and be with George during his final days. SUNNUS, ARTHUR Edward David Born March 6, 1922, passed away April 8, 2005 in NRGH. Art is survived by Mary, his wife of 61 years, sons Ron (Pat), Dave (Betty-Ann), Jim (Lanoa) and daughters Margaret (Mike), Diane (Larry). He also leaves 8 grandchildren Pam, Heather (Keith), Chris, Ray, Scott, Megan, Brent and Vanessa and 5 great grandchildren Cheyenne, Kaitlin, Mikhaila, Jordon and Caylyn. Predeceased by son Kenneth Arthur and brothers Cyril and Louie. Survived by sisters Anne, Kay,Joan and Jackie. Art was a long time member of Eagles, NDP and was an original member of Nanaimo Credit Union and Co-op. He worked as a machinist & retired from Harmac in 1987 after 12 years. Born & raised in Nanaimo, Art married and spent hislife with his family on the Sunnus family farm in Yellow Point.
