Bell, Frances
BELL, Frances Sonja October 21, 1936 ~ September 27, 2005 It is with great
sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and
friend, Frances Sonja Bell. Frances had a brief battle with cancer and was
taken by the Lord our Saviour on Tuesday, September 27th. She is at peace
now and will be sadly missed. She is survived by her children Doane
(Joanne), Karl (Trish), Shannon (Spencer) and her grandchildren Pauline,
Sean, Crystal, Jade and Abaigael, and many other relatives in Saskatchewan.
The family would like to extend its thanks to the staff at Victoria Hospice
for their care and to all who helped in her final days. There will be no
funeral as per Frances' wishes. A private family burial will take place at a
later date. Flowers are gratefully declined and in lieu of flowers Frances
wished any donations be made to Victoria Hospice or the BC Cancer Agency.

DOUGLAS, Stephanie (nee Seagram) Peacefully on September 28, 2005 in
Victoria, after a full and eventful life. Predeceased by her husband Fenner.
Mourned by her daughter, Diana and son-in-law Gordon Green, her grandson
Douglas Green and his wife Chryseis, and her granddaughter Andy Blair. The
family wishes to thank the staff and caregivers at Sunrise for their warmth
and understanding. In keeping with Steph's wishes, a private funeral will be

EDMONDSON, Louise A. September 1921 September 2005. Louise passed away
peacefully on Sunday, September 25, 2005 at Glengarry Hospital. Predeceased
by her parents, 2 brothers and 3 sisters; survived by 1 brother and 1
sister. Louise is lovingly remembered by her husband of 65 years, John; her
daughter Dianne (David) and sons, John R. (Valerie) and Douglas (Anita).
Louise was a loving mother who cherished and nurtured her family. She had a
love of life, sense of adventure and traveled extensively around the world.
She will always remain in the hearts of her family. A graveside service will
be held at Royal Oak Burial Park, Falaise Drive on Friday, September 30 at
10:30 A.M. A tea in Louise's memory will follow at the Camelot (12:30 to
3:30). Our family extends thanks to all at the Glengarry Hospital who cared

GILBERTSON, Alexander Anderson Born on May 1, 1922 in Edinburgh, Scotland
and died on September 27, 2005 in Victoria, BC. He is survived by his
sisters; Agnes Hart, Fay Higgins, Delia Schillinger, and May Ellerfritz; and
his brother Tom, and Alex's brothers -in-law, and sister-in-law as well as
his many nieces and nephews. A service will be held on Wednesday October 5,
2005 at 2:00pm at the Saanich Peninsula Presbyterian Church, 9296 East
Saanich Road, Sidney, BC, with a reception to follow. Flowers are gratefully
declined, but donations can be made in Alex's memory to the Canadian Cancer

Tuesday, September 20, 2005 at the age of 82 years. Predeceased by his wife,

NEUKIRCH, Arlene In loving memory of Arlene Neukirch (nee Kennett), who
passed away peacefully in her sleep September 20, 2005, after a short but
courageous battle with cancer. She will be dearly missed by her 4 children,
Steve (Sylvi) Christie, Jay, Sandra (David) Kozina and Michael Christie. She
will also be missed by her loving grandchildren Brian, Shaun, Jennifer,
Rachel, Alison, Nathan, Mark, Issac, and greatgrandchildren Dakota, Nyah and
Layla. Thanks to her many dear friends from the congregation who gave her
spiritual support, cooking many nourishing meals, showing genuine love for
her. Arlene's passion was helping others in need. She was a dedicated member
of Island Community Home Support where she helped others needing care as
well as lovingly caring for many terminally ill patients. She will be
greatly missed by the community that she loved dearly. The list of family
and dear friends of Arlene is too long to list, but if all the people whose
lives were touched by this special lady held hands, they would stretch clear
around the globe and them some. Special thanks to the doctors and nurses at
the V.I. Cancer Clinic, nurse Margot Swinburnson and associates at the
V.I.H.A., and especially the Victoria Island Hospice who provided a safe and
loving environment for Arlene during the last stages of her illness. We all
look forward to seeing you again dear Arlene and the day when no one will be

NEVILLE, Anne Kathleen Kay" (nee McKenzie) 1923 2005 Anne Kathleen Kay"
Neville, of Sidney, BC, passed away peacefully in her sleep at Calgary on
September 26, 2005 at the age of 82. Kay is survived by her loving husband
of 51 years, Fred; her two daughters, Joan (John Cattle) King and Janice
(Sid) Burnett; seven grandchildren, Craig, Michael (Sheila), Marnie
(George), Kevin, Mike (Jasmine), Kathy (Sean) and Jenny (John); seven
great-grandchildren, the lights of her life; best friend Bessie; and a host
of other friends. Our angel has done her work on this earth of ours, and now
has left us to carry forward with memories of the love and wisdom she
shared. She will be missed always and forever, but never forgotten in our
hearts. A Private Funeral Service will be held in Calgary, with interment at
Eden Brook Memorial Gardens. Public Memorial Services for both Calgary and

Park, Norman
PARK, Norman T. September 2, 1913 September 26, 2005 It is with sadness
that we announce the death of Norman Park. He is survived by his loving wife
Patricia, son Colin (Karen), stepson Anthony (Anne Louise), two
grandchildren, and many friends. Norman served with the Canadian Scottish
Regiment during WWII, achieving the rank of lieutenant. He saw action in
Normandy and Belgium before being wounded in Holland on October 29, 1944.
Norman and Patricia were married in 1969 and retired to Galiano Island where
Norm became interested in carving and woodwork, creating fine furniture for
their home. After many happy years there, they moved to Parksville in 2002.
There will be no service at Norman's request. Farewell Norm and Godspeed!

Powell, Jonathan
POWELL, Jonathan Gwyn Gwyn passed away peacefully on Friday 23rd, September,
2005 at the age of 86. He is survived by his two sons, Michael and Raymond
and grandchildren Gary, Owen and Derek. Born in Rhayader, Wales in 1919, he
served in the British Army from 1940 to 1946 and was commissioned in the
Royal Artillery. He served in Europe and was a Captain (Royal Artillery) in
the 43rd Wessex Division. He spent much of his life in Zimbabwe and Zambia
before joining his children on Vancouver Island. Interment of the ashes will
take place at Shawnigan Lake Cemetary at a later date. 155899

RIVERS, Raymond Cecil Passed away peacefully on September 25, 2005 at the
age of 94. Raymond was born on June 24, 1911 in Nanaimo, BC. He will be
lovingly remembered by his wife Margaret of 75 years and son Bryan (Pam).
Predeceased by his brother Ernie and sister Florence. Raymond spent most of
his time on James Island where he was employed as chief electrician. Loved
hunting, working in his garden, avid sportsman such as soccer, bowling and
fishing. Raymond also belonged to the Saanich Kiwanis Club. A special thanks
to Denise and Jinny and all the staff of the 3rd floor Douglas House at
Mount St. Marys for all their extraordinary compassion and loving care. No
service by Raymond's request. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to

Schaufele, Dr. Ronald
SCHAUFELE, Dr. Ronald Alfred (Ph.D) Ron passed away suddenly on September
24, 2005 at Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria, B.C. Born in Calgary on
October 5, 1930, Ron taught with the Calgary School Board for a number of
years before completing a Ph. D (Probability & Statistics) at the University
of Washington, Seattle in 1963. Subsequently he taught at Stanford
University and Columbia University. In 1966 Ron joined the Faculty of Arts
at York University, Toronto where he taught for 30 years before retiring to
Victoria, B.C. Ron is survived by his wife Mary (Houston) and his sisters
Joy Message of Victoria, and Carol Hunt of Red Deer, Alberta,
brothers-in-law Wallace Houston, Richmond B.C. and Ed Hunt, Red Deer,
Alberta and several nieces and nephews. No service by request. If desired,
donations may be made to The Heart and Stroke Foundation or The Canadian

SINCLAIR, George Brinkman August 08, 1924 September 24, 2005 Passed away
peacefully, surrounded by his family, into the presence of our Lord on
September 24, 2005 in the Richmond Pavillion. Born August 08, 1924 in
Vancouver, BC, eldest son of George and Anne Sinclair. Predeceased by his
father, mother and sister, Diane Craig. George will be sorely missed by his
loving wife of nearly 49 years Shirley, sons Garth (Nancy), Gordon and
daughter Elaine (Colin) Schofield, and beloved grandchildren Alexander
Schofield, Feylyn Sinclair, Emily Schofield and Stephanie Sinclair, his
brother Jim Sinclair, and nieces and nephews. George had a busy and varied
life, serving his country in the RCAF during the war in England, assisted
his father in the candy and bakery shop on View Street, was employed in
electronics (his love in life) at the Dockyard and then became a teacher of
Industrial Education, teaching in Kelowna, Kamloops, Kitimat and latterly
for 20 years in Victoria. George was a member and Past Master of St.
Andrew's #49, AF&AM, Scottish Rite, Lodge of Perfection, Rose Croix and Past
Patron of Ruth Chapter #22, Order of the Eastern Star. We wish to thank Dr.
David MacNaughton and all the nurses of the Richmond Pavillion for their
marvelous care of George. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the
Vancouver Island Cancer Clinic. A memorial service will be held at 1:30pm on
Saturday, October 1st at the Garden City United Church, 4054 Carey Rd., with
Rev. Albert Fowler officiating. A tea will follow at the church. 154718

Wednesday, September 21, 2005. Born in Cereal, Alberta on August 3, 1926.
Predeceased by her mother Mattie (Holman) Opheim, her father Ingvald P.
Opheim, sisters Ellen and Emmeline. Survived by her devoted husband (of 56
years) Raymond. Lovingly remembered by: daughter Beverly Ellen van
Druten-Blais (Guy Blais), son R. John van Druten (Tania Hartman),
grandaughter Hayley Ellen Mepham, siblings: Phil Martin, Inga Webster and
Vernon Opheim, and a myriad of relatives and friends around the world.

WATSON, Elsie Mabel (nee Price) Passed away peacefully on September 20,2005
in Victoria, B.C. at the age of 93. Predeceased by her husband of 52 years,
William; brother Aubrey and sister Dorothy. Survived by her son David
(Barbara); grandsons Andrew and Greg (Jody); granddaughters Patricia and
Alana. Elsie was a very determined and independent woman who always
maintained a positive outlook on life. She will be sadly missed by her
family and all of her friends and acquaintances. A Celebration of Life will

WATSON, John W.B. Passed away on September 26, 2005 at the Oak Bay Kiwanis
Pavilion. Born in Nottingham, England on May 23, 1909. He immigrated to
Canada at the age of 17, sponsored by the Boys Brigade. Jack worked as a
farm hand in Nova Scotia and Manitoba until he joined the RCMP in 1932. He
was predeceased by his wife Nellie after 65 years of marriage, also his
sister Min Cox and brother Albert. He is survived by daughter Lynn,
son-in-law Reid Hannan; grandchildren Iain (Lisa), Fiona, Darrell and
great-granddaughter Lauren. Jack retired from the RCMP in 1952, he and
Nellie started a nursery on The Pat Bay Highway which kept them busy until
1962. They were actively involved with the Multiple Sclerosis Society, Jack
teaching painting to a class of 12, helping them control the brush and paint
on canvas was a rewarding experience. The family would like to thank the
Staff of the Oak Bay Kiwanis Pavilion for their unconditional love and care.

Yule, Alice
YULE, Alice Olive April 23, 1911 September 25, 2005 Devoted wife for 68
years of Kenneth L. Yule, Q.C. who survives her. Beloved also by sons
Kenneth and Donald, daughters-in-law Jennifer and Susan, and grandchildren
David (wife Heather), Carolyn, Alison and Joanna. Alice was born in Manitou,
Manitoba to Orville and Annie Wagner, and predeceased in 1985 by her brother
Leslie Wagner. A graduate of Kitsilano High School in 1927, she lived her
adult life in Vancouver, a gracious and gentle lady making a loving home.
She and Ken enjoyed retirement at Qualicum Beach for over 25 years, and
latterly the caring comfort of Little Mountain Manor, Parksville. She was a
faithful member of St. Phillips Church in Vancouver and St. Marks in
Qualicum. A woman of sharp mind and many talents and interests, she enjoyed
the challenge of crossword puzzles, read avidly and was always up to date
with current events. Her needlepoint and handwork will be treasured. Her
interest in and loving support for her family will always be remembered. A
celebration of Alice's life will be held at St. Marks Anglican Church, 138
Hoylake Road West (at Memorial Ave.) Qualicum Beach on Saturday, October 15,
2005 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke
Foundation of B.C. & Yukon or the St. Marks Church would be appreciated.
