Forster, Werner
Photo

WERNER FORSTER June 10, 1930 - October 16, 2005 Werner was born in
Heidelberg, Germany. He studied Architecture at the University of Heidelberg
and then at UBC, graduating in 1959. He was talented and respected architect
who never lost enthusiasm for his work. He has left an extraordinary legacy
in the form of many beautiful homes, numerous restaurants and several office
and residential developments. Most impressive was the network of friends
that Werner cultivated over his years. His free spirit, keen sense of humour
and kind heart endeared him to many. Werner and his eclectic mix of friends
gathered regularly and delighted in a lively exchange of strong opinions and
a few jokes, usually over a martini or two. He lived life to the fullest and
shared his good times with everyone. In his day, Werner was an accomplished
athlete and won numerous competitions and awards, particularly in racquet
sports. Perhaps if he took up the game earlier in his life, the same could
be said of his golf game. He pursued it anyway, with the same passion as
everything else he did, in the company of good friends who will hopefully
remember the wonderful afternoons spent and not his scores. It is difficult
to say farewell to such a man, or even to imagine life without him. Good
memories of Werner will readily come to mind, bringing comfort to those who
grieve his loss. His influence is firmly lodged in each of us who knew him
and we are all so much the better for it. The family extends its heartfelt
thanks to the medical staff at the Intensive Care Unit at V.G.H. The
cremation service will be private.

MacKAY-DUNN _ Margaret Jane September 14th, 1917 - October 15th, 2005
Margaret Jane passed away peacefully in the presence of her children and
grandchildren at Lions Gate Hospital on Saturday, October 15th. Jane was the
daughter of the late Hector Quagliotti-Romano (Victoria) and Ella Dolan
(Seattle), both long time residents of Vancouver and pioneers in the Pacific
Northwest. Jane is survived by her children: Douglas Jr. (Doreen); Eltie
Boyer (David): Kate Salazar (Guillermo); Hector (Timmy); Michael (Debbie);
Suzanne Sande; and Tricia Kienzle (Ken). 'Gamma' will be lovingly missed by
her grandchildren; Megan Walker (Sean) and Maggie MacKay-Dunn; Nicole and
David Boyer; Guillermo (Allison), Katie, Carlos and Sandra Salazar; Rob,
Reid and Marion MacKay-Dunn; Matthew and Connor MacKay-Dunn; Jennie and
Peder Sande; and Suzy, Kenneth and Jane Kienzle. In addition, 'Gamma' loved
her great grandchildren: Guillermo Salazar (G3), Di'Angelous Sande and
Bailey Walker. She is predeceased by her husband and best friend, Douglas
MacKay-Dunn, (Victoria) eldest daughter Margaret Jane, sister Therese
Ahnstedt, and grandson Enmanuel Salazar. Born in Vancouver on September
14th, 1917, Jane grew up in Vancouver but felt like a citizen of the
Northwest, maintaining her American connections to all her relatives south
of the border. She loved sports, especially when her grandchildren were
involved, but during her younger years she particularly loved horseback
riding and art, which she would major in at University. Jane attended the
Convent of the Sacred Heart here in Vancouver and later in Seattle, at
Forest Ridge, where she graduated in 1936. Jane continued to live in Seattle
where she attended the University of Washington, graduating in 1942 with a
Bachelor of Arts, with a major in Anatomical Drawing. With plans to further
her education in Medicine; her plans quickly changed upon meeting Douglas, a
Canadian Lieutenant. They married in the Spring of 1943 and became partners
for life, both at home and in business. Together they operated the family
business, the Colonial Theatre, started in 1915 by her father, Hector, a
long time pioneer legend. With help from Dad, Mom was able to maintain some
peace between the sons and daughters, and at the same time, raise a family.
In addition to her family, Jane was involved with the Associated Alumnae of
the Sacred Heart, Sts. Peter and Paul's CWL, University Women's Club and a
long time associate member of the Royal Van Yacht Club. At the University of
Washington, Jane was active with the Kappa Delta sorority. But most of all,
she loved her bridge and until just recently played four times a week with
the Parkgate Seniors' Bridge Club. She never missed a beat. Jane will be
fondly remembered for her wit and direct approach. She passes on her
determination, resolve and will remain an inspiration to all who knew her;
especially, all her younger friends who thought she was hip. Our family
extends it's gratitude to the nurses and staff at Lions Gate Hospital for
their wonderful care of Mom during her illness and especially her physician,
Dr. Andrew Lee and long time family friend, Doctor Thomas Gibson. Prayers
will be held on Friday, October 21st. at 7:30 pm with a Mass of Resurrection

Strecker, Beverly
STRECKER _ Beverly Margaret (Peg). With great sadness we announce Peg's
passing at the age of 89, peacefully on October 13, 2005 with her family at
her side. Peg is survived by Gorton, her loving husband of 63 years, her
daughters Catherine (Hugh), Susan (Baron) and her three adored grandchildren
Caitlin, Liam and Aidan. Peg also leaves behind her faithful companion and
much loved friend Joyce Salinas. Peg was born and raised in Winnipeg and she
and Gort moved to Vancouver in 1987 to be closer to their family. Peg was
blessed with a wonderful and full life that included family, great friends
and travel. As the pitfalls of age caught up to her, she refused to give in
and chose instead to fight back and teach Aidan as much as she could about
life and being strong. The entire family would like to thank the many
members of the medical community for all of their kind help over the past
years and particularly Dr. Stan Lubin. Peg wanted everyone to consider how
they might contribute to eradicating cancer and then act on that
consideration. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, donations to the BC Cancer
Foundation would be greatly appreciated. By Mom's request there will be no
funeral, instead a private family memorial will take place.
