BLACK, Hugh James It is with great sadness that the family of Hughie
announces that he passed away peacefully, with his daughter at his side, at
Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria, BC on Sunday, March 12, 2006, in his
89th year. Much loved Dad of Anne and her husband Bob Stoner of
Peterborough, ON and Bill Black of Kingston, ON. Dear Grandpa of Jeremy
Stoner of Welland, ON and Adam Stoner of Peterborough. He will be sorely
missed by his caregiver and special friend Mirjana Russon. Predeceased by
his wife Velma, and by his parents Thomas Black and Maria Wilson, his
brother Bill and his sisters Violet, Hilda, Vera and Inis. Hughie was born
October 31, 1917 in Foresters Falls, ON. He attended Normal School in Ottawa
after completing high school. He had many fond memories of teaching in a one
room schoolhouse at Thunder Bay, ON, before serving with the Air Force in
WWII. He graduated from Ontario Agriculture College in 1949, going on to
teach the Sciences at the high school level in Simcoe, ON and then Norwood,
ON. After retiring, the moderate climate of Victoria, BC beckoned and he
moved there to live, thoroughly enjoying the ease of retirement. He made
many dear friends as the superintendent for an apartment building there.
Hughie was a 50 year member of the Norfolk Masonic Lodge. He was also a
member of the Rameses Shriners, the Royal Canadian Legion and the Delhi
Revolver Club. Our sincere thanks and appreciation go to Dr. Mark Sherman
and his staff, as well as the many caring and professional doctors and
nurses at Royal Jubilee Hospital for their expertise and compassion. As was
his wish, Hughie was cremated and an informal celebration of his life was
held along the shores of the Juan de Fuca Strait, where he loved to sit and
enjoy the peace of the open water and spectacular sunsets. "May his spirit
soar with the winged and be at peace forever. " In Hughie's memory,
donations to the Pemberton Chapel Garden Fund at the Royal Jubilee Hospital
in Victoria, BC would be appreciated. Address: Nootka Court H304, 633

TAYLOR, Margaret (Madge) Elizabeth (nee Foster) Died suddenly Saturday March
11, 2006, two days before her 85th birthday in a way she preferred: quickly,
at home, with no fuss. Predeceased by her husband and best friend, Fred
(1987), she is survived by her children: Mike in Ottawa, Tim in Seattle,
Heather in Whitehorse, Jenny in Shawnigan Lake and Brenda in Sidney. She
will be dearly missed by her grandchildren Sarah, Nick, Ariana, Justin, Tim,
Andrea, Piper and Finn. Madge Foster was born March 13, 1921 in Golden, BC
and raised in Vancouver and New Westminster. Summers spent on Buccaneer Bay
with boats, rustic cabins, friends and family had a lasting influence on
what she valued throughout her life. She served with the "Wrens" in World
War II before wedding childhood friend Fred Taylor on August 31, 1945. A
resident of Nanaimo for more than 50 years, she cultivated lasting
friendships with people of all ages and from all walks of life. Her care for
everything and everyone led to her involvement in a myriad of community
organizations: St. Paul's, Meals on Wheels, Stephenson Point Neighborhood
Association, and the Pony Club to name a few. She was determinedly
independent, yet graciously accepting of her own limitations and the help of
others. Guiding her tremendous capacity and willingness to help those in
need were two principles: love your neighbor as yourself, and put your heart
and soul into whatever you do. A memorial service will be held at St. Paul's
Anglican Church at 11am on Monday March 20, 2006, with tea to follow in the
church hall. Friends are invited to her home afterwards. In lieu of flowers,
