BLAIR, Gilbert Robert Survived by: his wife of 34 years, Lynne Blair; mother
Ida Blair; mother and father in-law Herb and Jean Kopperud; Godchildren Todd
(Kim) and Chris (Julie), Alora & Troy, Chelsea, Andrea & Elliot, Roger,
Libby, Chris & Cameron, Danielle, Lisa, Nicole, Scott & Sandra, David,
Danielle, Dianna, Dugan Zenija; sisters-in-law Margaret (John), Diane
(Herb), Joyce (Kim), Florence (Wayne); brothers Dale (Janet) Blair, Ron
(Connie) Blair; sisters Betty (Jack) Shields, Heather Blair; nieces and
nephews Scott (Calla), Darren (Deb), Craig (Chera), Lisa (Mike), Kevin
(Noreen), Trevor (Jeannie), Lana (Jason), Jackie, Jill (Darren), Jennifer
(John), Jeff, Chris (Michelle), David (Jewel), Bob (Amber), Coci, Craig,
Blake, Boyd, Stuart, Victoria, Justin. Born in Lanigan, Saskachewan and
subsequently resided in Saskatoon, Victoria BC and Comox BC, he was, a
graduate of the University of Saskatchewan in Commerce and subsequently
practiced as a member of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants.
Gil was a natural mentor to family and friends alike, to young and old and
sometimes to unwitting strangers, whether while sipping a favoured wine in a
bistro or astride his bike on a street corner. He placed a high value on
family and friends, often giving more of himself than he should have for his
own well-being. He was at once a business mind, a teacher, a community
activist, a techno geek, a computer wiz and a take-charge kind of guy. He
had strong opinions and he argued them forcefully but behind it all he had a
heart of gold with a strong commitment to support family and friends through
thick and thin. During his tenure with senior governments Gil made a
substantial and enduring contribution to economic development in BC through
the Employee Share Ownership Program, Forest Renewal, the Canada-BC Tourism
Development Agreement, the Agriculture and Rural Development Agreement and
other federal and provincial programs. In his four years in the Comox Valley
he served on the Comox Valley Airport Commission and the Comox Valley
Economic Development Society. He was also membership chair and web site
coordinator for the Pacific Northwest Economic Development Council. After
cycling across most provinces and many states with friends, relatives and
total strangers he would adopt along the way, Gil and his wife Lynne
embarked on one of life's greatest adventures ~ pedalling from Alaska to the
southernmost tip of South America over 11 months in 1999 and 2000. This
self-contained, 18,000 kilometre camping trip in his 50th year was a
celebration of life. His incidental role as an international ambassador for
cycling earned him many life-long friends in Europe and the Americas. His
bicycletheamericas.com website evolved from this trip as a forum and
resource for like-minded cycling enthusiasts. Gil was also an adventurous
skier and kayaker, as many discovered to their chagrin as he challenged
their limits. Indeed he thrived on the challenge of chaos. He will leave a
large void in many people's lives. Arrangements entrusted to Comox Valley
Funeral Home & Cremation. Services in Gil's memory in Victoria and Courtenay
will be held at a later date. 221425

CAMERON, Janet Margaret Malcolm (nee Hope) (April 18, 1920 March 20, 2006)
Born in Montreal, raised in Ontario, Janet married Ashley Cameron, a dashing
cadet from RMC on October 23, 1941. As an Army wife she lived in various
parts of Canada and in this way made friends across the country,
particularly in Ottawa and Edmonton. Following Ash's retirement from the
army they lived in Winnipeg, both working for the university of Manitoba,
followed by retirement 20 years ago to Victoria. Janet was a pioneering
artist, developing new techniques for preserving the images of the
petroglyphs in Canada, even as they were threatened by time, erosion and
vandalism. Together with Ashley, she spent summers camping in the woods of
northern Ontario, Manitoba and Vancouver Island, meticulously recording and
documenting this historic rock art. Her work can be found in the Cameron Wax
Rubbing Collection of the Manitoba museum in Winnipeg, at the University of
Manitoba and at Native counselling Services of Alberta, in Edmonton. Jan
found beauty in everything; driftwood, rocks and seaweed became sculpture;
she made jewellery and pottery. Her tool kit included her rock hammer, saw
and polisher, and her home was full of interesting rocks and fossils. She
had a keen and deep appreciation for oriental and native art. She also
developed letter writing as an art, and her many correspondents treasured
her funny and informative letters. In Alberta, Janet spent days in the
Badlands studying dinosaur bones and fossils. Everywhere she went she took
photos scientific ones to augment her petroglyph research, and wonderful
ones of nature. Janet never wanted to be ordinary, or like everyone else,
and she never was. Jan's husband, Major Herrold Ashley Cameron (Ash), their
daughter, Janet Ian Cameron, and their son, Herrold Malcolm Cameron, all
predeceased this valiant woman. Ian is remembered through the Janet Ian
Cameron Memorial Bursary fund for art students at the University of
Manitoba. Jan's friends and her rich sense of humour helped her through the
difficult times, but the loss of Malcolm on August 31, 2005 was too hard.
Her legacy will be found in the Scholarship Fund she has established at the
University of Alberta which will enable students to study the Canadian
North. Contributions can be made in her memory to the Janet Cameron
Scholarship Fund, Canadian Circumpolar Institute, 308 Campus Tower,
University of Alberta, 8625 112 Street, Edmonton AB T8G OH1. A Celebration
of Jan's life will be held at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church 680 Courtney
St. March 27, 2006 @ 11:00. 221247

FARLEY, Dorothy Ellen Marie "Bunny" 1943 2006 I have led a wonderful life
thanks to my precious family and world of special friends. I was fortunate
to travel, work and volunteer around the globe, having lived in Victoria,
Vancouver, Ottawa, Tel Aviv, New York, Vienna, Oxford, Inuvik, Banff, Queen
Charlotte and Calgary. Calgary and area has been particularly good to me."
Bunny passed away peacefully on March 23rd at the age of 62, after nineteen
months of battling cancer with an extremely positive attitude. Bunny is
survived by her father Patrick in Victoria, her sisters; Barb (Mike Tighe)
in Vancouver and Pat in Victoria. She is also survived by her brothers; Dan
in Plainfield, New Jersey, Jerry (Laurie, Ryan and Michael) in Victoria, Tom
(Debbie, Kris and Adam) in Calgary, Ken (Ingrid, Alan and Darren) in Calgary
and Larry (Casey) in London, England. Bunny was predeceased by her mother
Barbara in 1988 and brother Robbie in 1963. Bunny enjoyed the outdoors,
especially the mountains, camping, hiking and skiing. She was a wonderful
aunt and enjoyed her six nephews immensely. She spent much of her spare time
volunteering for various charities and especially enjoyed the Alberta
Children's Hospital where she volunteered for thirty years. It was at the
ACH that she directed the hospital's Shared Christmas Project, which assists
over one hundred families every year. After retiring from Parks Canada in
1995, she took a year and traveled the world one last time. During this
excursion, she volunteered in Calcutta with Mother Teresa. Never one to
chase financial dreams, Bunny likely achieved more in her sixtytwo years
than many of us would in two to three lifetimes. Through her travels, Bunny
touched many lives throughout the world. She was an inspiration to her many
friends and family. Her sense of humour and caring nature will be sadly
missed. A celebration of Bunny's life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S

Edmonton YMCA. After moving to Victoria in 1964, he became involved with the
Vancouver School of Theology, the Victoria Kiwanis Club, and the Inter-faith

SEALE, John William Our dear father, grandfather and friend John Seale, left
us, reluctantly, but with a parting wave, on Monday March 13. John will
remain in the hearts of his loving family and friends: children Judi Prewett
(Rod), Edris Seale (Val Nathan) and John Seale (Suzanne); and grandchildren;
Brendan, Rayne, Spencer and Jacqueline, as well as his children's mother
Marjorie Seale, his cousin Brian Gill (Susan), lifelong friends Bart and
Miriam Krause, and his most special friend, Dr. Jocelyne Lapointe. Born
December 2, 1918 in Winnipeg, where he attended Gordon Bell High School,
John was a WWII Royal Canadian Navy veteran, an awardwinning CBC
cinematographer for 25 years, and a champion athlete having been a Manitoba
Speed Skating Champion, an Olympic qualifier in bike racing and speed
skating, as well as a BC Seniors Tennis Champion. Over the years, John
traveled the world as a cinematographer where he met many luminaries. As a
young man, John worked lighting the street lanterns of Winnipeg, on the CPR,
and as a medical photographer at Winnipeg General Hospital. But it was
John's love and skill with photography, tennis and carpentry that gave his
life such meaning and has given us so many wonderful memories and mementos.
John was also an accomplished scotch drinker and a scary driver though,
thankfully, not at the same time. John lived most of his life in Winnipeg,
North and West Vancouver, and more recently, Victoria. Thank you to Dr's Ted
Rosenberg and Greg Culp for their gentle care and compassion, allowing Dad
to leave this world with dignity; Irena Vlasenko of Veteran Affairs; the
Parkwood Court staff who were so caring and allowed us to spend Dad's last
days together as a family; the Carlton House staff and residents who helped
ease his move to the Island; and the VIHA Home Care nurses. A Celebration of
John's life will be held at 2:00pm Sunday April 2nd at Carlton House, 2080
Oak Bay Ave, Victoria. In lieu of flowers please donate to your favorite
charity. 220787
