GAUTHIER, Violet Mae It is with profound sadness I mark the passing of my
mother, Violet Gauthier in the very early hours of Sunday, April 9th. Her
illness, unknown to all, took her quickly with no suffering or pain. She
died peacefully and in anticipation of the meeting to come with the voices
from the light. She listened the last few days to those who have passed
before. One can only celebrate the joyous meeting she will have had with my
father Paul, her beloved mother Anne, her wonderful stepfather Bill and the
myriad cast of amazing characters she knew and loved so well. Born in Dummer
Saskatchewan in 1921, on what could only have been a Prairie's frigid winter
night, she would remain throughout her life a lover of the vast sky and
wheat fields of her childhood. She was thrilled to take my father and me to
see the remains of the town and her smile that day will remain with me
forever. She worked very hard all her life and took great pride in finishing
her labour having become personnel manager at Jantzens of Canada in
Vancouver. Her happiest days though, were spent on the race tracks of
western Canada where my father trained and owned a collection of good, and
sometimes not so good race horses. One of our last mornings together was
spent looking at a book on the history of thoroughbred racing in Richmond.
Her dreams the rest of the day were filled with names from those very joyful
days. She lived in Richmond for forty-nine years. She leaves behind David,
daughter-in-law Clare and her beloved granddaughter Jocelyn (Munchkin). Her
funeral service will be Monday, April 24th at 1:00 P.M. at Forest Lawn
Chapel, 3789 Royal Oak Avenue, Burnaby. This will be followed by a short
graveside service and then tea. Reverend Kevin Fletcher from SMUS will
officiate. 231485

LEATHER, Mary Passed away peacefully at the Lodge at Broadmead on April 14,
2006. Predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Jack, on January 7, 2006. Mary
is survived by and will be greatly missed by her sons, John and Ronnie,
daughter Nancy, son-in-law Jim, daughter-in-law Nadine, grandsons, Johnny,
Jamie, Jason and Jonathan (Lori), cousins and sisters-in law, Josephine and
Alice, nieces and nephews in Toronto as well as friends in both the east and
the west. Born in Toronto on June 16, 1917 Mary lived and worked in Toronto
until her retirement at the end of '70s. Mary also served in the WACS during
WW2, hoping to meet up with "her" Jack who was already serving overseas.
After retirement Mary and Jack moved first to Campbellford, Ontario and in
1981 Mary and Jack headed west to the Sidney and Victoria areas to be closer
to the 'kids'. For those fortunate enough to have known Mary before the
sands of time took their toll, Mary will be remembered for her love of art,
music, her quick wit and honesty; always a willing shoulder to lean on and a
ready ear at the end of the line. Mary took people as she found them and
understood at an early age the true meaning of the word equality long before
the politically correct joined the cause. While Mary celebrated our
similarities, Mary understood and appreciated that our differences only made
the world a more interesting place in which to live. The road in Mary's life
was not always easy, however, Mary faced life's many challenges head on and
although Jack was the driver, Mary provided direction and while Jack could
be a boat at sea, Mary was the anchor. Mary was often heard to say 'we are
only passing through'. God Bless dear sweet Mary, mother and friend, on the
next part of your journey. May the road rise to meet you, May the wind be
always at your back, May the sun shine warm upon your face, And until we
meet again, May God hold you in the hollow of His hand. Thank you to all the
caring staff at the LAB particularly the nursing staff on B3 Lodge. There
will be no service by request. Donations can be made to the Lodge at
Broadmead Foundation if so desired. 231461

WOOLFENDEN, Brian F.R.A.I.C. 23 May, 1930 8 April, 2006 It is with great
