BROWN, William Peacefully at his home in Saanichton, B.C. on Monday, April
24, 2006. Billy, beloved son of the late Audrey Henderson, dear father of
Debbie Elizabeth, and sadly missed husband of Donna. My father had a big
life that started in Edinburgh and went port to port around the world till
he found his new home in Victoria. My father met his soul mate Donna some 24
years ago, and we are grateful to Donna the Chef" for finally bringing
routine and the ring of tire to his belly. A hermit, avid reader, gardener,
and joker, my father was the life of the party (when he went out) and a soul
that was truly content. Donna and your harem of woman will celebrate your
blue eyes always. This is not goodbye but a sweet good night to a great dad,
loving husband, and faithful friend. Forever dancing my darling. 236549

BUTTERS, Jacqueline Teresa At 6:05 pm on Tuesday, April 25, 2006 passed a
fine and dignified spirit. Jacqueline Teresa Butters died surrounded by
family at Lion's Gate hospital in her 88th year. Our mother lived her death
as she lived her life; with strength, with pride and with self-possession.
She was predeceased by husband Tommy and survived by five children; Nan,
Lowell, Brian, Ian and Tamara; spouses Giuseppe, Lise, Pamela and Douglas;
grandchildren Jake, Sara, Cameron, Valerie, Lindsay, Lauren, Katja, Liam,
Tessa and Luke and great-grandchildren Christopher and Ethan. Jacquie
Butters was a born and raised resident of British Columbia. Born in
Vancouver in 1918, she spent her childhood living on Dunbar Street before
graduating from UBC in 1942. In her youth, she was a professional singer and
a committed member of Vancouver's artistic community. Married in 1942, she
and Tommy were West Vancouver pioneers in the immediate post-war period,
building a showcase home on Bellevue Avenue before venturing into the
Interior in 1960. They spent several years in Kamloops before Jacquie took
the radical step (for the time and place) of returning to UBC to take a
Master's degree in Education in 1964. This led to a long and rewarding
career as a counsellor at Camosun College before retiring to West Vancouver
in 1988. After her husband's death in 1990, Jacquie devoted a great deal of
energy to her grandchildren, the University Women's Club, the CNIB and the
Catholic Church. She became fully computer literate in her mid-80's and took
great pleasure in staying up to date with the world via the C.B.C. The
family would like to recognize and applaud caregiver Bonnie Munn for all of
her very valuable and much appreciated support of Jacquie over the years. As
well, Jennifer and the other professional and compassionate staff at Lion's
Gate Hospital's Palliative Care Unit made Mother's passing graceful and
comfortable. For this and for all, we are very grateful. Funeral mass will
be held at 11:00am on Monday, May 1 at St. Anthony's Church, 2337 Inglewood
Avenue, West Vancouver. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian
National Institute for the Blind will be greatly appreciated. 236595

HARRIS, Mary (Deanne) September 22, 1940 April 26, 2006 Deanne was a joy to
behold and an absolute delight to be with! Her charming smile brought
sunshine into your life! She always had that bright sparkle in her lovely
blue eyes giving forth the true happiness of her nature to share with her
many, many friends. She openly glowed with the radiant flow of joyous
delight and love for others and she was a true inspiration for us all. Her
ever-present sense of humour and quick wit forever produced priceless
laughter. A spontaneous hug was always forthcoming. During our down times,
she was a true, bright candle alit with the glow of awaiting comfort and
care. She filled us with the spirit of hope in her charming embrace. She
cherished the pleasure of your company and expressed her openhearted
feelings in the enjoyment of the time with you, to have fun, and to treasure
the precious moments together. From her early days as a special little
princess, Deanne was gifted to exhibit a caring thought for the welfare of
others. She was, indeed, a social butterfly arising from her primary
childhood stage of the shy, withdrawn caterpillar to soon flutter her
bright, colourful wings to bring joy to her immediate surroundings. We
viewed her as a true hummingbird of life, forever the busy, scurrying
messenger of love, care, and many words of notice to spread amidst her large
covey of friends. To Deanne, the priceless value of friendship was utmost.
She eagerly sought your acquaintance, savoured the relationship, and
nourished upon the close union with the many, many friends she gathered
throughout her life. In continuous contact with her childhood classmates
(Norfolk House, St. Margaret's), with her active play as a tennis, squash,
golf, and curling player, and on to her devoted working career with the very
supportive S.D. # 61 Special Education associates, and from the different
countries in which she lived, she enjoyed a lifetime of very special
friendships. Deanne was deeply loved by her adoring husband, Bill. They were
true friends, soul mates and partners in their active, joyous lifestyle.
Deanne was a very loving and proud Mom to Christine (Phil) Greenhalgh, Lisa
(Errol) McLellan, and Blair (Nicci) Hedley, a truly caring and thoughtful
step-mother to Cathi (Ken) Senger, Jill (Kevin) Hawe, and John (Lisa)
Harris. Deanne was a totally delighted "World's Best Gramma " with her 11
grandchildren Kimberley, Derrick & Rebecca, Laine, Curtis & Shayla, Max
(Megan), Alexa & Jake, & Callie & Garrett. Deanne was also truly blessed to
become a valued member of the Carruthers family. "Father " Alex (deceased),
sisters Karen and Lorraine, brother Laird, and many aunts, uncles and
cousins openly embraced their new arrival. To Deanne, such a welcomed
acceptance was a special gift of love. Deanne's family would like to
sincerely acknowledge the extraordinary care and service provided by the
wonderful medical staffs at VGH (3N), St. Paul's Hemodialysis Unit, The
Jubilee (ETI), The Victoria Cancer Clinics, The Home and Community Care
Health Services (Saanich East), Beacon Community Services and the very
understanding Hospice Society. With such received treatment, comfort, and
support, we feel very fortunate to have been given the wonderful
professional counsel. In memory of Deanne's lifetime journey, a special
commemorative service will be held on Tuesday, May 2, at 2:00 p.m. at
Gateway Baptist Church, 898 Royal Oak Avenue. Our family truly appreciates
the expressions of kind thoughts, special prayers, many memorable treats
given to us by our wonderful friends. At this time of loss, please consider

SMITH, Margaret Taylor (nee Robertson) 27/July/34 20/April/06 It is with
deep sadness that Maggie's family announces her passing on April 20, 2006.
As she wished, Maggie passed away at home surrounded by family. Maggie
passed with the dignity and grace that she possessed in life. As hard as it
is to see Maggie leave us, we all know that Stan is waiting to greet her. No
doubt he will be waiting for her with their bikes and they can ride together
again. Maggie is survived by her sisters Jane (Bob) and Isabel (Bob), her
two sons Tom (Tammy) and Tim (Julie) as well as her three beloved
grandchildren Jordan, Brendan & Leah, whom she loved more than anything else
in her life. All her grandchildren were fortunate enough to have Maggie
caring for them in the first five years of their lives and provided them
lessons and memories they will cherish forever. Nana Maggie" will be sadly
missed by them. Born at home in Vancouver in 1934, Maggie grew up in
Vancouver, attending General Wolfe School and Fairview High School where she
excelled in the secretarial field. She worked for a variety of companies
during her career including BC Telephone, The Ritz Hotel, Neon Products, and
Cameron Pietrobon & Wong CA. Throughout her working days Maggie made strong
friendships which she treasured. Maggie loved athletics and everything
competitive. She met the single biggest love of her life, Stanley Allen
Smith, while skating at the old Forum in Vancouver. Together they skated
through 42 years in a true partnership blessed with love and respect. As her
two sons grew up, hockey became the focus for the family with Stan
refereeing and Maggie shuttling the boys between ice rinks, practises and
tournaments. To see her sons excel in hockey, go on to University and
successful careers made Maggie very proud. Their home on Dent Ave in Burnaby
became a home not only for family, but for many friends as well. Maggie had
such a gentle, caring way, always putting the needs and desires of others
ahead of her own. It was these qualities that made Maggie become like a
second mother to many of her sons' friends. Maggie treated her extended
family, as well as their children, as her own. She was considered Nana
Maggie" to many children. Upon the passing of her beloved Stan, Maggie moved
to Victoria to be closer to some of her grandchildren. It wasn't long before
she made strong new friendships and became an integral part of the Wallace
family. Maggie was one of the most giving people to ever walk this earth.
She was a special lady who was loved by everyone fortunate enough to meet
her. Her close-knit family, grandchildren and endless number of friends are
her legacy. She gave us so many wonderful memories that we will hold dearly
for a lifetime. Our most sincere thanks go to the caring service of our
Community Care Nurse Michele and to Debra our Palliative Care Nurse from
Hospice. In lieu of flowers, donations in Maggie's memory may be made to the
Parkinson Society of BC, Leukaemia Society of BC or a charity of your
choice. As Maggie requested, a Celebration of her Life" will be held at the
Laurel Pointe Inn on Sunday, June 4th at 2:30pm. Please join us to celebrate
the life of an incredible lady. As Maggie would have liked children welcome.

TOWNSON, Douglas Edmund Townson, Douglas Edmund Born November 14, 1921 in
Edmonton, Alberta, lived in Victoria most of his adult life and died
unexpectedly, at the age of 85, after a brief illness on Easter Sunday,
April 16, 2006 while in Dunster, BC. He was predeceased by his wife of 50
years Roberta in 1996, who he met while billeted at her parent's home while
stationed in Belfast immediately after WW2. He leaves 4 sons, John Edmund in
Vancouver, Martin in Victoria, Danny (Vicki) in Grande Prairie and Brian
(Shelley) in Edmonton, 3 adult grandsons (Gordon, Sean, and Nicholas), as
well as his companion of the last several years, Audrey Fraser in Dunster.
Douglas served in the Royal Canadian Navy during the 2nd World War and
received several decorations for bravery and other actions, about which he
was very modest, rarely speaking about the events concerned. He continued
his career in the Navy, working in recruitment and communications, etc.
until mandatory retirement, followed by 10 years as an inside worker for
Canada Post and finally as a supervisor at Tillicum Lodge for the BC
Provincial Government, before permanently retiring in 1986. He led an active
life in retirement, keeping in touch with many of the men he had served with
in the war and after, actively gardening and improving his home by
constantly working on it. He read a great deal, both fiction and histories,
and was always working in his home workshop, pursuing his love of
woodworking and handicrafts, creating things simply for the joy of doing so.
He will be remembered by his children as a generous father who always loved
and supported his family. Though he leaves behind a diminished number of
contemporaries, his generous, friendly nature and never-failing willingness
to help attracted many younger friends. He will be sorely missed by both
family and friends. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations appreciated to
the BC Lung Association, British Columbia Lung Association, 2675 Oak Street,
Vancouver, B.C. V6H 2K2 or www.bc.lung.ca . A short commemoration of
Douglas' life was held in Dunster on Saturday, April 22. A Memorial Service
and celebration of his life will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, June 24,
2006 at the Royal Oak First Memorial Funeral Services of BC, 4725 Falaise
Drive, Victoria BC. In the world of existence there is no more powerful
magnet than the magnet of love. 236773
