BELL, Karlene Passed away peacefully at home on April 27, 2006. She will be
dearly missed by her daughter Kelly and her loving son Michael, and her
step-son Bob. As well as her nine special grandchildren. She will be dearly
missed by her loving and caring husband Gary. A memorial tea will be held in
the Garden Room to celebrate Karlene's life on Sunday May 7 at 1:00pm at

BERGMAN, Kenneth Bliss Carman March 28, 1928 May 4, 2006 Ken who was born in
Halifax passed away in Victoria, BC after a couragours and hard fought
battle with his health. He is survived by his beloved wife, of 52 years,
Shirley; sons Scott at home and Brian in Halifax; sister Chris and brother
Walter both of Montreal. Ken served in the Canadian Army with R.C.E.M.E. and
retired to Victoria. Memorial service will be held at Sands Colwood Chapel,
317 Goldstream Ave., on Wednesday, May 10, 2006 at 1:00 P.M. In lieu of

DeCICCO, Angela Margaret Passed suddenly away in Victoria, April 29, 2006.
She was born in Santa Monica, California, on September 4, 1963. Survived by
her parents Marilyn and Reg Taylor; husband Mario DeCicco; stepdaughter
Alana Whitmore; step son Robin DeCicco; step-grandson Matteo DeCicco and
many extended family throughout Canada, UK and the United States. Angela was
an alto with the St. Andrews Cathedral Parish Choir. She also loved animals
especially her iguanas and cats. A Prayer Service will be held at McCall

FORD, James Nicol It is with great sadness that we announce his peaceful
passing on April 30, 2006 surrounded by his loving family. Jim was born on
December 25, 1913 in Esquimalt, B.C. He was predeceased by his wife Johan
and daughter Sandra Pedersen. He is survived by his daughters Denise Ford
and Donna (Henry) Lok, his grandchildren Debra (Beau) Horvath, Johnny (Tina)
Argau, Michelle (Tim) Kamsteeg, Michael (Eryn) Lok and Nicole Lok. Jim also
left behind his great grandchildren Victoria Riley and Darin and Chelysia
Lok and he was looking forward to greeting his newest in July. We shared
many adventures with him camping and fishing and he always enjoyed playing
crib with family members. We would like to thank David Buffam and family for
their kindness, and the fantastic nurses at the Saanich Peninsula Hospital
who took great care of him during his last 2 weeks. A private service will

HAYHURST, Deborah Ann It is with profound sadness that the family of Deborah
Ann Hayhurst wish to announce her passing on April 28, 2006. She is survived
by her husband, Doug; her sons, Danny and Andrew; parents, Vi and Ellis
Peters, brother Tim; Doug's parents, Gladys and John Hayhurst, many aunts,
uncles and cousins, all of whom will miss her dearly. Deb was born November
25, 1959 in Edmonton, Alta, and lived as a young child in Yellowknife, NWT,
before moving to Victoria. She displayed a quiet strength, reliability, and
dependability all her life. In spite of her quiet demeanor, she was
passionate about family. Schooled mostly in Langford, she graduated from
Belmont High School. Her life was dedicated to Danny and Andrew and, with
them, was very involved in Scouts, soccer and lacrosse and other endeavours.
A graveside service will take place Saturday, May 6, 2006 at 11:00 am at
Hatley Memorial Gardens, 2050 Sooke Road with reception to follow from 1-3PM

HENSON, James Arthur Passed away suddenly in Victoria on April 30, 2006.
Jimmy will be dearly missed by his loving mother Mary, brothers Dan and
Jack, sisters Joan, Linda (George) and Sandy (John), his many nephews,
nieces, other family members and the numerous friends he made during his
time with us. Jimmy was always happy and loved going to his job at Pearkes
Arena, watching the Saanich Braves and cheering for his Canucks. He will be

HOWARTH, Graeme Rusk February 15, 1915 April 28, 2006 Graeme passed away
peacefully at the Newport Harbour Care Centre in Calgary on April 28, 2006.
He is survived by his son, David (Teuny) Howarth, daughters Anne (Garry)
Poffenroth, Heather (Stan) Howarth, Beth Howarth, stepdaughter Sylvia (Al)
Bowman, and by his stepson Rod (Lou) Partin. Graeme will also be missed by
his 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Graeme was predeceased by
his sisters, Jean Howarth and June (Alan) Emmott, his brother, Charlie (Peg
and Polly) Howarth, his first wife, Audrey Howarth, and his second wife,
Polly Howarth. Graeme was born in Kelwood, Manitoba on February 15, 1915,
the eldest child of the Reverend David Howarth and his wife, Leah. They
moved to Calgary in approximately 1928 where he attended Crescent Heights
High School. After high school he graduated from Normal School and then he
later obtained his Education degree from The University of Alberta,
Edmonton. He taught in various locations throughout Alberta, two of which
were Pilot Mound and Dogpound. Graeme married Audrey Dunlop of Coleman,
Alberta in 1940. He signed up for the Air Force before W.W. II and served
for the duration of the war. Following the war he started as an instructor
at SAIT. He taught there for over 30 years and became Head of the Drafting
Department. His family spent many years vacationing at Sylvan Lake, Alberta,
where Graeme built a cottage, a rowboat and a 15-foot boat for cruising.
Also, in 1956 the family moved into the home he built on the outskirts of
the city across from a large field that is now The University of Calgary. He
obtained his private pilot's license in 1964 and owned, reconstructed, and
flew light airplanes for several years. Graeme married Polly Partin in 1968.
They retired on Saturna Island in 1976 and spent twenty-four years commuting
between Saturna Island and Victoria making strong friendships in both places
and enjoying many wonderful years together. In the year 2000 Graeme and
Polly reestablished their home in Calgary. Special thanks is extended to Dr.
John Van Olm and the staff of the Newport Harbour Care Centre for their
loving care. A Memorial Service will be held at St. David's United Church,
3303 Capitol Hill Crescent N. W., Calgary on Monday, May 8, 2006 at 3:00
p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Salvation

KOZMA (O'DELL; PARSONS), Eileen Peacefully at Luther Court on April 24,
2006. Born in Vancouver, April 27, 1921. She is lovingly remembered by her
sister Tory and family; her daughter Joan and family; son John and family; 4
grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; and all those that have known her.
Eileen worked as an R.N. for most of her life. She was a dedicated student

LOVE, John A. March 24, 1914 April 16, 2006 John Alexander Love, lately of
Victoria, died peacefully on Easter Sunday, 2006. He leaves to remember him,
his wife Lilian, daughter Margaret (Arnold) Ranneris, granddaughters Karen
(Neil) Sparks and Donna (Ken) Turner, great-granddaughters Tegan and Hayley,
and many friends, notably Lynn Elves who was a great friend and help in
recent years. John was born in Wigton in southwestern Scotland, the third of
four children his siblings were Elizabeth, Hugh and Jennie. He studied radio
technology in Manchester which led to a career in the airline industry. He
had many adventures in his youth which are legendary in the family, but when
he met Lilian, he found a partner for all of life's adventures. They married
in June, 1938. Their daughter, Margaret, was a joy to him and as Lilian has
said fondly, the love of his life". Mechanically inclined, John was
interested in motorized vehicles and instruments especially motorcycles and
aeroplanes. He became an aeronautical engineer and worked in various places
in the United Kingdom, West and South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and
Seattle before coming to B.C. He worked with Queen Charlotte Airlines,
Pacific Western Airlines and Lucas-Rotax before accepting work with the
Department of Transport of Canada in 1958 as an aircraft accident
investigator based in Vancouver. He retired from this position in 1978.
Always interested in gadgets and new technology, John remained interested in
science and its many applications, amazing his grand daughters by buying a
computer when he was 80. John built two houses for his family, one in
Richmond, B.C. and the second for his and Lilian's retirement on Galiano
Island, B.C. He also built, by himself, a 25 foot boat named "Eriskay ". He
and Lilian lived on Galiano until the mid 1990's, when they moved to Sidney,
followed by a move into Victoria in 2004. His Presbyterian church
connections always meant a lot to him. The family expresses appreciation to
the staffs of Mount St. Mary Hospital and to the Vancouver Island Health
Authority staff who assisted latterly in many ways. Also to the staff at
Saanich Peninsula Hospital. At John's request there was no funeral, the
family had a private memorial service. Donations can be made to the B.C.

ROOZENDAAL, Siemon Jacobus Born May 23, 1933 passed away May 1, 2006 in
Langley. He immigrated to Canada with his family in 1951 where they settled
in Duncan. In 1957 he married Reggie Bonokoski and they moved to Victoria
where they had four children. There he successfully built up several
automotive-related businesses. In 1975 they moved to the Kootenays and
eventually to the Okanagan where Sam managed the Salvage Operations for
ICBC. He retired to Winfield in 1991 where he spent 9 years pursuing his
passion of restoring vintage cars. He relocated to Langley in 2000 and spent
his last years with his companion Willy Weismiller, until he eventually lost
his battle with cancer. Sam is survived by his four children; Pattie
(Bernard Faure) of Canmore AB, Mary-Lou Huculak (Don) of Kelowna, Sam
(Patti) of Calgary, AB and Maureen Drake (Dave) of Vernon as well as
grandchildren Alyssa, Siemon, Richie, Anna, Stephanie and Marc. He is also
survived by his brother Jack and sisters Ann, Dina, Margaret, Mary, Helen
and Johanna as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial
will be celebrated Tuesday, May 9 at 12 o'clock noon from St. Joseph's

SINGH, Dr. Nydia Lee Vencer Tupas Singh Peacefully passed April 27, 2006 in
Victoria, BC, surrounded by family. She was born November 24, 1942, in
Barotac Viojo, Iloilo, Philippines, to the late Felimon Tupas I and Severina
Tupas. Nydia graduated Salutatorian from Ba-Vi-Hi School in Iloilo City. She
completed her B.Sc. from Iloilo School of Arts and Trades (ISAT) in 1960;
and her B.A. from Notre Dame of Marbel College in 1966 with "Cum Laude "
honours. At ISAT, Nydia was Editor-in-Chief of the university paper, and the
only female Student Council President in the history of the school. Nydia
was recently made a Gold Medal recipient for student leadership by Governor
Zulueta of Iloilo City, Philippines. Ever adventurous, Nydia immigrated to
Canada in 1966 to work as a school teacher, working for several years in the
Queen Charlotte Islands, and finally settling in Prince Rupert. In Prince
Rupert, Nydia married Dharam Pal Singh and had four children: Rey, Roland,
Daisy, and Cyrus. In 1994, she relocated to Vancouver Island completing her
M.Ed. from the University of Victoria in 1999, and her Ph.D. in English and
Comparative Literature soon thereafter. Nydia will be remembered for her
dignity, strength, integrity, and loyalty. She was loyal to her faith in
Jesus Christ, and always to her family. Innumerable lives were touched
through her kind words, generous giving, and compassionate spirit. Often
Nydia was described as a "people " person. Throughout the years, she was
active as an adult Sunday school teacher, as a Vice President of "Aglow "
Ministries, and as an administrator of evangelical outreaches. Nydia was an
evangelist, a "soul winner ", a teacher of the Word, and a mentor for many
people. This beloved woman is missed by her children Rey, Roland, Daisy,
Cyrus; their spouses Amy, AnnMarie, Heather; her grandchildren Isaiah,
Eaden, Jonas, Adaiah, Joaleah; her siblings Elmo, Philsey, Manito, Nara; and
by numerous family and friends. Funeral service will be held at North
Douglas Pentecostal Church, 675 Jolly Place, Victoria, BC, on Saturday, May
6, 2006 at 10:00 A.M. with reception and interment to follow. "I have fought
a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: henceforth

SPELLER, Lionel C. Lionel Curtis Speller, MM, age 86, passed away Sunday,
April 30, 2006 at the Lodge at Broadmead. Lionel was born in Victoria on
September 10,1919 to Alexander and Melville Speller. He was the sixth of
eight spirited children and became a keen participant in sports, especially
soccer, boxing and motorcycle riding. During World War II, Lionel was
stationed in Hong Kong as a dispatch rider in the Royal Canadian Corps of
Signals with the Royal Rifles of Canada. He was later awarded the Military
Medal for courage and devotion under fire. Lionel was a POW of the Japanese
for almost four years, an experience that through its atrocities, forged an
everlasting bond with his comrades. In 1952, he married Ida C. Bergstrom,
who was his loving support for the rest of his life. They had two swell
children. Lionel remained dedicated to his family and his community, and to
helping veterans both personally and through his work at the Department of
Veterans Affairs. He held several positions with the Hong Kong Veterans
Association and the Royal Canadian Legion, and received many service awards,
the Legion Meritorious Service Medal and the Palm Leaf being among them.
Lionel is survived by his wife, Ida; son and daughter-in-law, Ross and Wendy
of Kamloops; daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Arlen Goodwine of Medford,
Oregon; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers and one
sister; and 23 nieces and nephews. He was much loved and will be greatly
missed by family and friends. A Legion memorial service with reception to
follow will be held Saturday, May 6 at 1 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion,
411 Gorge Rd. East. Donations may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion
Trafalgar Pro Patria Branch 292 or to the Hong Kong Veterans Commemorative

VANDERMAY, Chantal Ghislaine Our beautiful Chantal passed away on April 28,
2006 after a very brave and courageous battle with cancer. Chantal was born
on December 20, 1970 in Montreal. Her life was a gift to all those who had
the chance to meet her, for even after a moment with Chantal, you could not
help but be drawn to her. She had a special way of bringing people together
with love and laughter and her quest for adventure was contagious. Chantal
lived a lifetime in her 35 years with us, travelling all over the world
discovering many different cultures and immersing herself in their language
with whole hearted determination. She was always willing to take on new
challenges and forever remained positive and true to herself. She formed
life long friendships with ease and cared for those around her with such
tremendous compassion and understanding. Chantal was also passionate about
her career as a Flight Attendant which she started at a young 19 years of
age. She was always a true professional and often expressed to her family
and friends that she could not imagine doing anything else. With her
endearing personality, she inevitably touched the lives of her passengers
and co-workers in a way that will prove to be everlasting. Chantal will be
deeply missed by her mother and father, Sandi and John Vandermay, her papa
Ken Beaumont and Elsie, her grandma Cora Vandermay, her uncle Syd and Nada,
aunts, uncles, cousins and all her wonderful friends. Thank you to those
closest to Chantal for all the love and compassion you gave her always, it
meant the world. Her loving and gentle spirit will forever live in our
hearts and on the wings of the butterfly as it dances through a field of
daisies. A celebration of her life will be held Sunday, May 14, 2006 from
1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Grand Ballroom in the North Tower at the

WATT, Eugenie (Jennie) Marie (nee Perullet) June 13, 1916 May 2, 2006 After
a lengthy struggle, Jennie, our dear mom, grandma, great-grandma and friend,
is now at peace. Jennie will be remembered with much love by her daughter
Marilyn Moody, her son Allan Watt; grandsons Cary (Yvonne) Watt, Wayn
(Jennifer) Moody, Greg (Tina) Watt; granddaughters Wendi (Cam) Murray,
Deanna (Denis) Taylor, Jennifer (Norm) Laurence, great-grandchilden Jessica
Laurence; Caitlin, Steven and Mikayla Watt; Sean, Scott and Sara Catharine
Murray; Julia and Emma Moody; Caleb, Micah and Kesia Watt; Ethan Taylor. She
will also be fondly remembered by Gordon Moody and Sandra Watt. Jennie was
predeceased by her parents Pierre and Marie Perullet and her brother Roger
Perullet. Mom's greatest pleasure was the time she spent with her family and
friends. She loved her garden, shopping with Auntie Florrie and in the
summer she could be found by the nearest blackberry bush. She was spunky,
kind, generous and had a great sense of humour. Mom has always had a very
special place in all of our hearts, and we will miss her terribly. We will
cherish the many memories that we each have. The family would like to
express sincere thanks to Dr. M. Jones, Dr. D. Leishman, Dr. L. van den Berg
and the wonderful nursing staffs at VGH and Royal Jubilee Hospital. A

WEYLER, Constance Mary Passed away very peacefully on May 1, 2006,
surrounded by her loved ones, at the Saanich Penninsula Hospital. Connie is
survived by her loving husband of 66 years Len, her 3 children Chris
(Josie), Richard (Joanne) and Jill (Bill), her grandchildren Michael, David,
Richard, Jordan, Blake and Nick, and her great-grandchildren Dylan and
