BROUGHTON, Ellen Jean It is with great sadness that we report the death of
our dear daughter, Ellen, on May 12th at St. Michael's Hospital, Toronto.
She leaves her parents, Lorne and Lorraine Broughton of Victoria, B.C.; her
sister Kathleen Snetsinger (Douglas) of Oakville, ON and their children
James of Toronto, Katie of Montreal, and Andrea of Oakville; and her sister
Anne Beauchamp (Pierre-Paul) of Ottawa. Ellen was born 7 December 1957 into
a military family in Kingston, ON and subsequently lived in B.C., Sask.,
Man., Ontario, Quebec, Germany and Belgium. After high school she joined
Canada World Youth and spent several months in the Philippines. She
graduated from Queen's University (BA. and B. Ed) and taught English in high
schools in Ontario and Japan. Following receipt of an ESL Diploma from
U.B.C. she was employed by Horizon College and Pacific Gateway International
College, both of Vancouver. She loved to travel, particularly with her two
sisters. A friend of Ellen's of many years has written us; "It seemed to me
that her world, as large as it was with all her international experiences,
her many friends and her considerable knowledge, was fundamentally, and
finally, grounded in you. While she went out into her life to be a worker, a
student, a traveler, a companion or a teacher, always, always she went out
there as if tied by a lifeline to her family. I hope you find respite from
your grief when you think of how exuberant, funloving and uncommon she was
and how brave and honest. When I am finished with this sadness I feel right
now, I know I will remember her with joy. " In the last week of her life
Ellen found her way back to faith in God and bravely accepted that she could
not survive the ravages of cancer. A website to honor Ellen's memory can be
found at: http://www.homestead.com/hstrial-abeauchamp/index.html A private
memorial service will be held soon. Donations in Ellen's memory may be made
to the Canadian Cancer Society or to I.V.C.F. International Student
