JENKINS, Dorothy Myfanwy 1914 2006 Loved and admired for her lively mind,
Dorothy died at peace with her Maker on June 13. Born in Llandaff, South
Wales, just before WWI, her life changed abruptly in WWII when her husband,
John, was posted to North Africa. She became a teacher, easing her two sons
into boarding-school some miles away and, through her inner resourcefulness,
endowing them with qualities that would affect the rest of their lives, and
hers! Settling back into post-war suburbia was not easy, especially when her
own aspirations clashed with the duties of companywife. Tradition usually
won until, in her fifties, she and John emigrated to Victoria. Canada freed
her from class proprieties. She learned to drive, upped her secretarial
skills, took a job with Social Services at Sevenoaks where she became
"everybody's mother. " After retirement she beetled around dispensing advice
and concern as a Senior Citizen Counsellor. For the past decade, she lived
at the Orchard, Cadboro Bay, surrounded by extraordinary friends and a
community that gave her strength to combat cancer, in her 80's, and its
return this winter. Ever curious and active, she enjoyed book clubs, a
Bible-study circle, a walking-group, and writing a Memoir whose publication
intrigued all who knew her: especially sons, Anthony (Marion) and Peter
(Joyce); grandchildren, Tim (Sarah), Bronwyn (Edwin), Emily (Joe), and Megan
(Joel) and their families, plus a network of relatives in the U.K. Doctor
Lisa Veres and staff, plus each caring professional and volunteer at
Victoria's Hospice created a meaningful finale to a life well lived.
Dorothy's Memorial Service takes place at St. George's, Cadboro Bay, on
Wednesday, June 21 at 2:00 p.m. Donations to Victoria Hospice in Dorothy's
name would be much appreciated. 257530

life possible, Norah traveled extensively with Frank, which enabled her to
photograph widely. She was a perennial optimist no matter what the
challenges. The glass was always half-full for Norah as wife, mother,
grandmother, sister, aunt, great-aunt, great great-aunt, mother-in-law and
great grand-mother. Her wide and many interests from opera, rug-hooking,
