BEUTLE _ Joseph, "Joe", peacefully at Mission, B.C. on Sunday, August 20,
2006, aged 67 years. Joe is survived by Phyllis, his loving wife of 44
years; his daughter Kathleen and her husband, Ed Wilson and his son Joseph
and Tammy Beutle; his grandchildren Ed and Richard Wilson and Breanna (Ken)
Chapman, Joey, Brandon and Sarah Beutle. He leaves, also, his parents, Josef
and Maria Beutle; his brother Frank and his wife Sandra; nephews, dear
friends, colleagues and clients. Joe was an Investors Group Rep for 37
years. As an expression of sympathy, donations made in Joe's memory to the
MCC, Cedar Valley Mennonite Church, or your favourite charity would be most
appreciated. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 pm on Saturday, August

Folz, Joyce Kathlyn (Urquhart)
FOLZ _ Joyce Kathlyn (nee Urquhart) Beloved wife, mother, sister and friend
passed away in her sleep on August 18. Born in 1926, Joyce lived her entire
life in South-East Vancouver. The youngest of five children and only girl,
she attended McKenzie Elementary and Fairview Business College. She worked
at the Weldwood Mill and was active with the IWA Union and later with the
Canadian Legion. Family was very important to Joyce and she was well known
for her delicious baking and welcoming kitchen. A softball player, curler,
bowler and lover of sing-a-longs. Joyce was often the life of the party. She
will be greatly missed by her husband Egon, daughter Bonnie, son Jon, her
brothers Bill and Johnnie, seven grandchildren and her great-granddaughter.
The family wishes to thank Little Mountain Place and her caregivers for the
love and support they showed her and in lieu of flowers a contribution can
be made to Little Mountain Residential Care & Housing Society. A celebration
of Joyce's life will take place on Friday, August 25th at First Memorial,
602 Kingsway. The service will take place at 1 pm followed by a reception in
her daughter Bonnie's garden, 465 E. 37th Ave. A viewing will take place
before the service from 12:15 pm to 1 pm for those who wish to pay their
respects.

GALAJ _ Sheila Sophie (Naduriak) passed away peacefully August 21, 2006.
Predeceased by her husband John of 58 years (January 29, 2004) and daughter
Valerie Johnston (August 21, 2002). She leaves to mourn her 4 children, 1
son-in-law and 8 grandchildren; Barbara and children Brooke (Caswell Blair)
and Brodie; Linda Johnson (Rick) and children Kelly (Grant Isaak) and
Jennifer; son-in-law Brad Johnston (Valerie) and children Kari and Wyatt
(Honey); Diane Cerney (Norm) and children Rhett and Kristin; Richard Galaj
(Antonella). She will also be missed by her 8 great-grandchildren Candice,
Quinn, Chase, Brody, Chylo, Zaylan, Cady; Jonathan; her sister Elsie
Thompson and many nieces, nephews and friends. Service to be held at
Burkeview Chapel, Thursday, August 24th at 10:00 a.m., 1340 Dominion Ave,
Port Coquitlam. Graveside service to follow on Saturday, August 26th, 2:00
p.m. at Kelowna Memorial Park Cemetery. For more details contact Burkeview

Gatzke, Frieda
GATZKE _ Frieda (nee Kerber) Mrs. Frieda Gatzke passed away on August 18th,
2006. She lived in Westlock, Alberta for 1 year after marrying Erich Zittlaw
and will be sadly missed. Born August 10, 1923 in Deutsch Troszyn, Poland,
was married to Michael Gatzke in 1951 (who predeceased her in 1996). They
came to Canada in 1952 and settled in Richmond, B.C. Left to mourn are Ellen
(Roger) Hoover; Rita (Gordon) Sommerfeld; grandchildren Angela, Murielle,
Michelle and Karlee; sister Julie in Vernon and Brothers Samuel (Emmy), Otto
(Irene) and Heinrich in Germany, and many friends and relatives. Erich's
family - Marlene (David) Hitesman, Christy, Dean and Mercedes and Rita (Don)
Walker, Candace and Marc, Geoffrey and Pastor Marilyn Stobbs all were so
happily enjoyed. A Funeral Service in will be held at Westlock Trinity
Lutheran Church at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday August 23rd, 2006 with Marilyn

Greene, Margaret


GREENE _ Margaret Mary After a very brief illness, it is with great sadness
and loss that we announce the passing of our loving mother, Mary Margaret
Greene, on August 20, 2006, at the age of 81 with her family by her side.
Mary was predeceased by her devoted husband Walter and her son Peter. Mary's
legacy includes six children, Walter (Maureen), Charlie (Sheila), Garry
(Deborah), Karen (Bill), Elizabeth (Bill), Greg (Shanlea). Grandchildren,
Kimberley and Michael, Mark and Alexandra, Michelle and David, Jonathan and
Kimberly, Cori and Jennifer, Amy and Owen and her adopted grandson Michael,
great-grandchildren, Hailley and Dyllan. Mary's greatest love was her family
and her unconditional love was felt by all of them. Mary is also survived by
four brothers, John (Renemae), Mike (Lil), Max (Pat), Paul (Karen) and three
sisters, Bess, Marj, Carmel (Frank deceased). Mary was born in Lamaline,
Newfoundland on July 19, 1925 the eldest of 14 children. Mary moved to
Ladner with her husband and family from Newfoundland in 1973. Even though
they lived in Ladner their hearts remained in Newfoundland. Their annual
visits back home enabled them to maintain close relationships with their
family and many friends. Mary felt very blessed to have met so many
wonderful people since moving to Ladner. She has been an active member of
her church and volunteered with community. She thoroughly enjoyed attending
weekly fitness classes and Monday afternoon Canasta at McKee Centre. A mass
of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, August 24, 2006 at 11am at
Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, 3900 Arthur Drive, Ladner, B.C.
Cremation to follow. The family will receive friends Wednesday, August 23,
2006 2-7pm at Delta Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made
in Mary's memory to McKee Recreation Centre, 4705 Arthur Drive, Delta, B.C.

Hollis, Bernard (Barney)
HOLLIS _ Bernard (Barney) passed away August 13th, 2006 in Ashcroft, B.C. at
the age of 92. He served in WWII with the RCAF from 1940 to 1945. Barney was
predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Ruth (2000). He is survived by his son
Reid (Judy), grandsons Adam and Garry. His family and many friends,
neighbors and relatives will sadly miss him. The family would like to
express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at the Ashcroft and District
Hospital and Dr. Rawson whose professionalism, compassion and dedication
were exemplary and will not be forgotten. Memorial Service to be held at the

Howe, Frances Albert (Frank)
HOWE _ Frances Albert (Frank) passed away suddenly on Thursday, August 17,
2006 at George Derby Care Centre. He was born in Vancouver in 1920. Frank
was predeceased by his wife Betty in 1991. He is survived and will be dearly
missed by his sons Eric (Lorie), Dan (Pauli), daughter Diane; grandchildren
Jennifer (Jonas) and Kimberley. He is also survived by his two brothers,
Barney and Denis (Elaine), brothers-in-law Pat O'Toole and Bill Higgins and
many nephews and nieces. Frank was a long time resident of Surrey. The
family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at George Derby
for their kindness and support. A private family service will be held

passing of Irene Jenkins, who left us far too soon on August 20, 2006. Irene

KEILBART _ Irvine Rudolph aged 60 years, passed away Friday, August 18, 2006
after a valiant comeback following a cardiac arrest. Irvine is survived by
his wife Sandra; 2 daughters Sherry (Martin) and Corri (Gary); and 2
grandchildren Brian and Michael. Irvine was a loyal friend who brought great
joy to all who knew him. He will be greatly missed by his family and

Knudsen, Peder Roald


KNUDSEN _ Peder Roald. Born November 4, 1925 in Vaeroy, Lofoten, Norway,
passed away August 19, 2006 with his family by his side. Survived by his
wife of 52 years Joan, son Robert (Merrilee), daughters Karin (Dave), Nancy
(Glen) and Greta, his grandchildren Christopher, Robert, Virginia and
Dustin, great-grandchildren Katie and Rylen, brothers Arne, Otto, sisters
Hjordis, Grethe, Elsa and many nephews and nieces and relatives in Norway.
Predeceased by his father Thorvald, mother Johanna, brothers Ole-Johan,
Kaare, Gunnar and sister Kitty. In his lifetime, Peder was a fisherman,
merchant marine seaman and finally a construction worker with the
Construction and Specialized Workers Union Local 1611. As a fisherman, Peder
fished in the far North Atlantic and Pacific oceans; as a seaman, Peder
traveled to the 4 corners of the earth; as a construction worker he was very
proud to have been involved in many significant projects that have shaped
Vancouver's skyline. Peder will be greatly missed by his family and many
friends at Riverbend Co-Op in New Westminster. Flowers gratefully declined.

choice in Peder's memory. The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses
at Royal Columbian Post-Op and ICU for their compassionate and loving care

KRENTZ _ Kurt Gunter, of Surrey, was born February 14, 1934 and passed away
surrounded by family on August 18, 2006. Kurt will be lovingly remembered by
his wife of 46 years, Milda, his sons Richard (Claudette) and Bob (Pat), and
his daughter Angie (Mike). He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren
Stephanie, Douglas, Megan, Nicole, and Melissa. He will be sadly missed by
many other family and friends. Kurt was a talented craftsman and he leaves a
legacy of woodworking treasure for his family and friends to enjoy. A

LEONARD _ Patricia Madeline (nee Richmond). It is with great sadness that we
announce the passing of Patricia Leonard. Pat gave up her battle with
multiple illnesses August 15th, 2006 at the age of 73. She will be terribly
missed by her loving husband Bob, sons Mark (Moise) and Dean (Glenda),
grandsons Cory, Jeremy and Chad, great-granddaughter Taylor and brothers
Alan (Joan) and Bruce (Ann). Pat was predeceased by her son Garth who we are
sure is now by her side. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the
staff at the Royal Columbian Hospital for their heroic efforts on Pat's

LYTLE _ Marlene (nee Summers) March 19, 1936 - August 20, 2006 It is with
great sadness we announce the sudden passing of our cherished and much loved
wife, mother, sister and nana. Marlene will be terribly missed by her loving
husband Bill, children Kim Polson (Ken), Wendy Chilton (John), Jamie Lytle
(Lorraine), Kelly Abrams (James) and Robin McRitchie (Brad). She was devoted
to her grandchildren David, Carling, Ryan, Corey, Shay, Spencer, Madison,
Brady and Bailey. Also mourning her loss, sisters Mae Moir (Gordon), Averil

sister-in-law Marie Brisson (Remi) of Edmonton as well as numerous niece and

Mager, Margaret
MAGER _ Margaret Passed away on August 16th, 2006 in her 87th year. Her
husband, Walter Mager. predeceased her in August 1967. Margaret is survived
by her six children Lesley (Lloyd deceased August 12th), Donna, Walter
(Judy), Michael (Carol), Lynden (Vicki), Tanis (Jack), eleven grandchildren,
six great-grandchildren, and 1 great great-grandchild, her brother Howard
(Anne) McEachern and sister, Verdi Taddeo of Thunder Bay, Ont., and many
nieces and nephews. She was born in Fort William, Ont (now Thunder Bay) on
October 18, 1919. Mom's passion for music, her piano, and an insatiable love
of dancing gave her immense joy and comfort for many years. She was a BC
Seniors croquet champion. She was always accepting of people and
non-judgmental. Despite many years of financial hardship her caring heart
enabled her to take pity on those less fortunate than herself. A memorial
service to celebrate Margaret's life will be held at Brock House, 3875 Point
Grey Rd, Vancouver on Friday, August 25th at 1:30PM. The family requests

Main, Douglas Ross


MAIN _ Douglas Ross born March 4, 1928 in Victoria, BC. After a brief
illness, Doug passed away into the presence of his Lord on August 11, 2006
in North Vancouver. Beloved husband of Marylou, most cherished father of
Jennifer (Archie), Bruce (Pamela) and Mary Ann (Paul), so loved Bapa and
Grandpa of Becca, Joel, Calvin, Erin, Madeline, Marielle, Jessica and Jarod,
and survived also by his sister Joyce (Bob Vaughan), his extended family and
many much-valued friends. He was predeceased by his brother Gerry in 1995.
Doug obtained his BCom from UBC in 1951 and his CA designation in 1956. He
worked in the pulp & paper industry for many years, and ended his working
career on a high note with Chemex Labs. After retirement, he actively
volunteered as Treasurer with UrbanPromise, which serves inner city children
in the Lower Mainland. Doug also loved his church, where he served in many
ways. His family was his pride and joy - many of his happiest times were
spent with his grandchildren: baiting a fish hook, hauling a sail, playing
ping pong and singing silly songs. His other passions were music, badminton,
sailing, golf and his cabin at Keats Island. A celebration of Doug's life
will be held at First Baptist Church, 969 Burrard at Nelson, Vancouver on
Sunday, August 27th at 3:00pm. Flowers are gratefully declined, but if so

Nishi, Patrick
NISHI _ Patrick It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a
wonderful father and friend. Patrick was born on June 25, 1951 in Vancouver
and passed away on Sunday, August 13, 2006 in Anaheim, California. He was
predeceased by his brothers David (Carol) and Gordon (Kanae). He will be
lovingly remembered by his daughters Jaclyn and Kari, his brothers Tom
(Joan), Ken (Nancy), Dick (Peggy) and Arthur; his sisters Frances (Dick) and
Ruby; his Aunt Yoshi Inouye and cousin Cathy (Tom). He is also survived by
many nieces and nephews. He was a caring and loving person who lived life
(and golf) to the fullest. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday,
August 26 at 1:00PM at Greenacres Gold Course, 5040 No.6 Road, Richmond.

Rosenberg, Lillian
ROSENBERG _ Lillian Born in New York City, passed away peacefully in White
Rock, BC on August 21, 2006 at age 93. Predeceased by her husband Joe and
son Jerry, parents Harry and Fanny Schwartz, and her sisters Helen Snider
and Mildred Friendly. She will be sadly missed by her son Larry (Sharon),
grandchildren Braedon, Brianna and Makena and her nieces and nephews.
Lillian was a strong woman who had to deal with many difficult challenges in
her life. Despite this, she lived a life of service to others. After caring
for her family, she volunteered thousands of hours and made bighearted
donations to a multitude of worthy causes. The words kind, patient and
generous are not enough to describe her wonderful way and do not pay
adequate tribute to her. She truly left the world a better place than she
found it. Special thanks to the staff at Peace Arch Hospital Weatherby 1
Pavilion and the White Rock/South Surrey Hospice Society Volunteers.
Memorial Service will take place at 1:00PM, August 23 at the Schara Tzedeck
Cemetery, 2345 Marine Dr., New Westminster, BC. In lieu of flowers,
donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Hadassah Wizo or
the Vancouver/Richmond Association for Mentally Handicapped People.

SIBBALD _ LOIS DOREEN 1931 - 2006 Lois Doreen Scrimshaw Sibbald passed away
on August 18, 2006 in Chilliwack at the age of 74 years. She was born August
21, 1931 Weyburn, Saskatchewan, Canada. Lois is survived by sister Iris
McChesney, brother-in-law Robert McChesney and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by Mr. and Mrs. A.G. Sibbald of Coquitlam, BC, Canada.

Simantiris, Areti


SIMANTIRIS _ On August 19, 2006 after a short stay at St. Paul's Hospital,
Areti Simantiris passed away peacefully with family at her side. Areti was
predeceased by her husband, Konstantine and grandson, Costa. She will be
greatly missed by her daughter - Irene (Leo), son - Theo (Rose) and her
grandchildren - Helen (Eric), Kosta (Katerina), Alex (Cheryl), Arita
(George), great-grandchildren - Gregory, Elias, Alexander, Alexandra, Aliki,
Christopher, Nicholas, Taya. Born in Greece in 1920, Areti was the eldest of
nine children. Prior to moving to Canada in 1973, she was like a mother to
many refugees and provided humanitarian aid to those in need. She enjoyed
helping others and her generosity will always be remembered. Prayer services
will be held at St. Georges Greek Orthodox Church, 4500 Arbutus Street,
Vancouver on Tuesday, August 22 at 7pm. Funeral services to be held on
Wednesday, August 23 at 1pm. Special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff
at St. Paul's Hospital for their kindness, care and support.

Smee, Basil N.
SMEE _ Basil N. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of
Basil N. Smee. Basil passed away on August 18th, 2006 at the age of 76
surrounded by all his family. He is survived by his loving wife Bernice,
sons Hilton (Kathy), Gary (Colleen), David (Melissa), Steven (Bridie) and
one daughter Kimberley (Ted) and 12 grandchildren, which he adored. He also
leaves behind one sister and her family and many friends in Capetown, South
Africa, nieces and nephews in Canada and other relatives in Australia. A
celebration of Basil's life will be held on August 28th at 2 p.m. at the
Salvation Army, Southmount Citadel, 3404 East 49th, Vancouver, 604-438-5328.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Basil's memory to the
Salvation Army Child Sponsorship program for a children's home in South

Spring, Celia Elizabeth
SPRING _ Celia Elizabeth born January 27th, 1922 in Daphne, MB, passed away
peacefully Friday, August 11th, 2006. Predeceased by her husband Jack in
November 2005 and her brother Arthur (Bud) Peers in September 2004. A loving
wife, mother, grandmother and friend, she will be missed by many. Lovingly
remembered by her son Truman (Judith) and his children Andrea and Mark;
daughter Candice Davidson (Bill) and their children Stephen, Alexandra and
Jonathan; sister Freda Lemieux (Henry); sisters-in-law Betty Dixon and Marie
Peers and many nieces and nephews. The support, care and compassion shown by
friends and family over these past few difficult years will be remembered.
Special Thanks to Elsie, Barb and Diana and to the staff at Dufferin Care
Centre for their exceptional compassion. A Memorial Service will be held at
11:00am on Wednesday, August 30th, 2006 at St. Lawrence Anglican Church,

Whitney, Kylie Breanne


WHITNEY _ Kylie Breanne January 13, 1986 - August 16, 2006 It is with great
sadness and sorrow that we announce the sudden tragic passing of Kylie
Breanne Whitney on August 16, 2006. Kylie' s presence is being deeply missed
by her parents Terry and Ann, her brothers Derek and Tyson, her grandmother
Marguerite Howard, her great-aunt Dorothy Thornton, and her many uncles,
aunts and cousins. Also missing her are her many friends at Douglas College,
London Drugs, and friends up and down Vancouver Island. Kylie was born in
Port Hardy, B.C in 1986 and attended Eagleview Elementary School and Port
Hardy Secondary School where she graduated with honours in 2004. She moved
to Vancouver in the same year to attend Douglas College and hoped to get a
degree in Criminology from Simon Fraser University. Eventually, she planned
to attend law school and become a lawyer. During her time in Port Hardy,
Kylie was active in tap dancing, figure skating, hockey, Brownies, Job's
Daughters, drama, music and peer counseling at Port Hardy Secondary School.
She was the editor of yearbook at Port Hardy Secondary School as well as the
editor of the Ocean Watch Pacific Website for the Vancouver Aquarium. Kylie
was a wonderful daughter and sister, and a fantastic friend who cared deeply
for those around her. She will never be forgotten. A celebration of Kylie's
life will be held on Friday, August 25 at 4:00PM in the Chapel of Victory
Memorial Park Funeral Centre, 14831 - 28th Avenue, Surrey, B.C. There will
also be a memorial service held in Port Hardy on the same date. In lieu of

ZURBRUGG _ Brigitte Katharina "Kathy", (nee Fuhrmann) passed away suddenly
in her sleep August 17, 2006. There are no words to express the pain of the
loss we feel. Kathrin leaves behind, her loving husband, John, three
beautiful children, Julian, Kyle and Kelsea and a myriad of heart broken
family and friends in Switzerland, Canada and around the World. We love you
