DESCOTEAU, Robert Maurice Albert After a brief but difficult battle with
cancer, beloved husband, dad and grandpa Bob passed away at Victoria
Hospice, August 8, 2006. Born December 27, 1935 in Val Marie, Saskatchewan,
dad spent his childhood and youth in Calgary, from which he embarked upon a
26-year naval career in 1953. He spent most of those years stationed in
Victoria, where, in 1959, he married June. He always enjoyed music and sang
in the early 60's with several navy buddies in a band known as The Bugs, who
brought early Beatles music to Victoria before it was popular here. They
even appeared on Ida Clarkson's Noon Show on CHEK-TV. After leaving the navy
he continued his storesman's work at BC Ferries, retiring for good in 1997.
Dad also had a love for sports. He bowled, curled, golfed and for a time,
played hockey, as well as coaching his sons and many other boys in baseball
at National Little League and Saanich Babe Ruth at Reynolds Park. In
retirement, he became an avid golfer and active member of the men's club at
Ardmore Golf Course. No matter what was going on in his life, dad was always
willing to drop everything to give his kids and grandkids help when needed,
and for that we will always be grateful. Dad was predeceased by his father
Ralph and mother Helene, brothers Pete, Paul and Jules and sisters Jean and
Lil. He is survived by June, his wife for 47 years, sons Bob (Deb) and Don
and daughter Donna (Rob), grandchildren Michelle, Helena and Cole, and
Felicia, Christina, Michael and Julia. He also leaves sister Bonnie
Hendrickson (Harold), in-laws Alice Descoteau (Jim), and the Benns, Phil,
Ron (Audrey), Bill (Dianne) and Dave (Louise) plus many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 14 at 2p.m., at First
Memorial Funeral Services, 4725 Falaise Dr., Victoria. In lieu of flowers,
donations can be made in dad's memory to the charity of your choice. 281211

FAULKNER, Ethel Evelyn October 18, 1940 August 8, 2006 It is with great
sadness the family announces the sudden death of Ethel Faulkner in her home
on August 8 in Victoria, BC. She was a remarkable woman who was admired and
respected by all who had the privilege to know her. Her passing is a
tremendous loss to her family. Her spirit will continue on and her legacy of
character will inspire us all. Ethel's many friends will miss her dearly.
Strongly independent and private, Ethel enjoyed a diverse circle of friends
and brought wit and fun to each. Her bridge, golf, investment, and social
clubs will acutely feel the loss of her presence. Her curiosity and love of
travel took her on amazing solo adventures to Europe and on long road trips
through the US, BC and Alberta, always accompanied by her great choices of
driving songs. She loved sports, especially golf, baseball and basketball
and didn't hesitate to 'pop down' to professional training camps and games.
Ethel was a constant learner and skillful researcher, always developing her
computer skills, researching places to visit, practicing piano, yet she
brought her own particular humorous perspective to everything. She loved her
big 'Wally' golf club that apparently really improved her game. Always
waiting for "Oh that's a gimme, Ethel" when she managed a close putt, she
will be remembered for the fun she brought to her golf partners. Ethel was
also very good bridge player, thoughtful and meticulous. Even when placing
the 'dummy', every card had to be in place. We all feel privileged to have
been a part of her life. Ethel is survived by sister-in-law Antoinette
Faulkner of Edmonton, AB; her nephews Tom (Tony) of Quesnel, B.C; Don
(Heather) of Calmar, AB; David Jr. of Stony Plain, AB; Terry of Edmonton,
AB; and their families. She was predeceased by her parents Herbert Faulkner
(1969), Bertha Faulkner (1989) and her brother David Faulkner Sr. (2005).
Private cremation. Friends will be notified of the date and time for a
gathering to celebrate Ethel's life. 281754

FERGUSSON, Mabel Kathleen (Cassie) March 5, 1909 August 7, 2006 Cassie died

behind her daughter Geraldine Robertson (Doug), grandchildren Greg Robertson
and Denise Clifford (David), sister Mary Crodie, sister-in-law Joyce
Campbell (Bob) and many generations of nieces and nephews. Cassie moved to
Vancouver from Nova Scotia as an infant and remembered canoe trips on a
pristine Fraser River and hiking adventures on the undeveloped North Shore
mountains. Her pleasures in later life embraced travel, games and puzzles
with family and friends of all ages who will miss her deeply. A special
thanks to the Quick Response Team and her care workers. No service will be
held at Cassie's request, but donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would
be appreciated. 280374
