ABBOTT, V.W. Bro. Arthur 1921 2006 Arthur Passed away peacefully on August
17th 2006 at the Royal Jubilee Hospital, Victoria, BC. after a short
illness. He was predeceased by his wife Daisy in 1994 and is survived by
his, sister Mary, nieces and nephews in England, son Ian, grandchildren,
Sally, Emma and Mark, their spouses Sue, Mike, Heath and Amy and four great
grandchildren Mickenzie, Ainsley, Finlay and Jadin. As well as the Masons,
Arthur was also a member of the Shriner's, Scottish Rite, Royal Arch and the
Canadian Legion. Memorial services will be held at the All Saints Anglican
Church, Salt Spring Island, BC on Tuesday, August 29th 2006 at 2:00. In lieu
of flowers, donations to local food banks would be appreciated. 285265

BEST, Kathleen Edith (Kay) Kay passed away peacefully at the Priory on
August 18th, 2006. She joins her beloved daughter, Pam Parkes, who
predeceased her in September, 2004. Kay is survived by her husband, Clarence
(King) Best, her sons Michael and Robin Tarr, their families, and King's
daughter, Margaret Berry and her family. She also leaves her grandson, Jeff
Parkes. Kay was a musician, and she possessed a lovely singing voice. She
was a talented pianist, being trained on this instrument at the London
School of Music. Kay taught elementary school in Victoria at South Park and
George Jay. She was a member of the Order of the Royal Purple, and several
local choral groups. Born in England on October 3, 1913, Kay moved to Canada
in her early twenties, beginning a lifelong love of travel. She and King
cruised to Hawaii, Australia, and through the Mediterranean. She made trips
to England to visit her family and also travelled throughout the United
States, and to Bermuda. Kay's family would like to thank the Priory staff
for allowing Kay to end her life with dignity. No service by Kay's request,
donations may be made in Kay's memory to the Priory Hospital, 567 Goldstream

BROWNE, Ronan Charles Peacefully, in the presence of his family, on August
13, 2006 in Langley, B.C. Born on January 16, 1917 in Rimbey, Alberta he was
predeceased by Estelle, his loving wife of 58 years and his son-in-law,
David Lomax. He is survived by his two daughters, Patricia Lomax and Judith
(Dee) Bereska; six grandchildren, Deena (Jorge), Ryan, Sarah, Erin, Margo
and Kirk; two great-grandchildren, Julia and Brendan; nieces, nephews and
their families. Dad had owned and operated a very successful clothing store
in Peace River, Alberta. where he had been very active in the community. He
was a member of the Uplands Golf Club for many years and had been involved
with many social organizations in Victoria. Funeral Service will be
conducted from MCCALL BROS. FLORAL CHAPEL, Johnson and Vancouver Streets, on
Thursday, August 24th at 3:00 p.m., followed by a reception in the Graham
and Torrey McCall Family Centre. Flowers are gratefully declined; tributes,

CRAWFORD, Helen Marcelle (nee Gingras) August 8th, 1919 August 23rd, 2004
Two years have passed, and every day you are missed! You loved life, family,
countless friends and your profession you enjoyed people so completely. A
very highly regarded nurse for 50 years, you nursed thousands with a
phenomenal level of care that was appreciated by so many for life! Your
faith in the Almighty was ever present. Though saddened that a few in acute
care failed you, you loved and were loved by so many friends and excellent
caregivers at Mount Saint Mary, Glengarry and Gorge Hospitals. Our tribute
is given to a wonderful mother, grandmother and friend who is no doubt
having a wonderful afterlife with Dad (Melvin) the love of her life, her
brothers and sisters, her parents, Jack, in-laws and so many others. Our
love for you is perpetual. Till we meet again. Your loving son and daughter,

HEAL, Stanley James January 5, 1931 August 19, 2006 Stan passed away
suddenly at the age of 75 at his home in Royston. He is survived by his wife
Catherine of 52 years, his son Stuart (Amy), daughter Janis (Joe), 5
grandchildren, Matt, Steven, Nick, Lauren and Parker, brother Gerry and
sister Dayle. Stan grew up in Victoria and moved to the Comox Valley in the
early 1950s. He worked as the principal of Lake Trail, Tsolum Courtenay Sr.
and Courtenay Jr. As the first principal of Highland Secondary, Stan was
proud to have a lead role in creating and developing the innovative new
school. He worked tirelessly mentoring thousands of children over his career
until his retirement in 1986. Stan's vast community service included
President of the Comox Rotary Club in which he remained an active member,
and Paul Harris Fellow, Results Manager at the BC Winter Games held in
Courtenay and Treasurer of the Bingo Palace. Stan enjoyed skiing, fishing,
golfing, gardening, curling and spending time with his grandchildren. He
will be forever missed by his loving family and many friends. Stan will be
honoured on Friday, August 25th at 1:00 pm at the Comox Funeral Home &
Crematorium, 1101 Ryan Road, Courtenay with fellowship and refreshments in
"The Garden Room " and Outdoor Patio of the funeral home. For those wishing,
donations in Stan's memory to a charity of choice would be gratefully

MACDONALD, James (Bev) It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to a
Husband, a Dad, a Grandpa, a Brother and a great friend to many. Bev passed
away August 19th, 2006 after a short illness. He is survived by his wife
Marge, son Jim (Sarah), daughter Sharon (Andy), grandsons Sam, Ryan and
Denton, sister Liz, brothers Ian (Olive), Glen, Bob (Zorea), sisters-in-law,
Kay (Dalton), Diane (John), numerous nieces and nephews, and a special lady
Isabel Williamson. There will be no service by request, but a celebration of
Bev's life will be held Tuesday August 29th from 1 to 3 pm at McMorran's
Beach House, 5109 Cordova Bay Road. In lieu of flowers, donations can be
made to the Cancer Society or the Heart Fund. Many thanks to the paramedics
and emergency room staff at Jubilee Hospital. Bev did not go quietly to the
grave, but with a golf club in one hand and a scotch in the other, saying it

MARTIN, Audrey Kathleen February 16, 1911 August 19, 2006 Passed away
peacefully at Saanich Peninsula Hospital. Predeceased by her husband John in
2003. Survived by sons Ian (Margaret), Peter (Lesley) and David (Lorrie), 8
grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Mom will be greatly missed by us
all and by her many friends here and in the Chilcotin. Special thanks to the
staff at Saanich Peninsula Hospital Palliative Care Unit, Brentwood House
and Beacon Community Service. Funeral Mass at Our Lady of The Assumption
Catholic Church, 7742 West Saanich Road on Friday, August 25 at 3:00pm.

PIERCY, Anne Meline (Googs) (nee Sugg) It is with deep sadness that we
announce the passing of our beloved Mom. Born in Sydney, NS on March 3, 1925
Anne married Bob Piercy and together had six children. Predeceased by her
husband Bob in 1979 and her son John in 1995. Left to mourn are her
daughters Anne (Terry) Bragg of Sydney, NS, Marie (Don) McDonald of Moose
Jaw, SK, Helen (Jim) Gilbert of Victoria, BC, Diane (Barry) Green of
Quesnel, BC and one son Bob Piercy of Duncan, BC. Anne is survived by 11
grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; one sister Betty Murphy of Sydney,
NS. Mom was an avid reader, loved camping and cooking in her younger years
and her treasure was her family. Special thanks to all the staff at Sunset
Lodge for their wonderful care of Mom. As per Mom's wishes there will be no
funeral service and anyone wishing to make donations may make them to the
Salvation Army, Suite 300 777 Fort Street, Victoria, BC, V8W 1G9. A Special

RAMSAY, Peter Ferguson Born in Regina, Saskatchewan October 8, 1916, passed
away peacefully on August 18, 2006. Predeceased by his darling wife of 57
years, Cecily, his brothers William and David and survived by his loving
children, Graham (Sally) of Nanaimo, BC, James (Jennifer) of Atlanta, GA.
and Isabel (John) Ostrom of Calgary, Alberta; eight grandchildren,
Christopher (Jennifer) and Stephen (Catherine McCandless), Allison, Paul and
George, Peter, Derek and Aidan and two great grandchildren, Laine and James.
The family would like to thank both the staff at the Lodge at Broadmead for
their kind and attentive care during the last years of his life and Doug
Popejoy, his close friend and companion during his residence at Broadmead.
Peter was a distinguished soldier, dedicated public servant and loving
father. His career in the public service of British Columbia spanned 44
years of which 6 years were spent on active duty with the Canadian Scottish
Regiment during World War II. He began his career in the Public Service as a
clerk in the Port Alberni Government Agency in 1934 and retired as the
Director of Agencies and Personnel for the Ministry of Finance in 1978. He
was commissioned in 1938 and in World War II saw action with the second
Battalion of the Coldstream Guards in North Africa and landed on D Day with
the Canadian Scottish Regiment. Post war he served in many capacities
including commanding officer of the Canadian Scottish Regiment, commander of
25 Militia Group and Aide de Camp to Canada's Governors General. Following
his retirement from military service he achieved the rank of Brigadier
General and served two terms as the Honorary Lieutenant Colonel of the
Canadian Scottish Regiment. At the family's request, in lieu of flowers,
bequeaths may be made to the Canadian Scottish Regiment Endowment Fund, 715
Bay St., Victoria, V8T 1R1; the Lodge at Broadmead Foundation, 4579
Chatterton Way, Victoria, V8X 4Y7 or the YM-YWCA of Greater Victoria, 851
Broughton St., Victoria, V8W 2E5. There will be a Memorial Service at First
Memorial Funeral Chapel, 1155 Fort St. at 12:00 noon on Friday, September 8
and a reception at the Officer's Mess of the Canadian Scottish Regiment at

SORENSON, Victor Born in China December, 1919, Vic passed away peacefully on
Sunday, August 13, 2006 at the Royal Jubilee Hospital. Vic will be greatly
missed by his loving partner Florence Drummond and by his friends at the
Trafalgar Legion who enjoyed many hours of his piano playing. Vic donated
much of his time to the CNIB and helped at the craft classes alongside his
beloved Flo. Many thanks go to the caring and devoted staff at the Jubilee
Hospital. In lieu of flowers donations to the Veterans Affairs would be much
appreciated. A memorial service will be held on August 25, at 1:30 pm, at
the Pro Patria Trafalgar Legion on Gorge Rd. East. 284060

TOGNELA, Renso G. Febuary 20, 1929 August 20, 2006 Died Peacefully at the
Lodge at Broadmead, surrounded by family. He is survived by his sister Jean
Hackwood (Robert) and his brother Silvio (Josephine), as well as many
nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. We would like to thank Dr. Ian
Bridger for his care and to all the nurses and staff at the Lodge for the
loving care and understanding that they gave to Renso. No service by Renso's
