CRINGAN, Wyn Scott Wyn died early on Wednesday, August 30, 2006 in the Lodge
at Broadmead in Victoria. He was 87. The son of Robert and Isabelle Cringan,
Wyn was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on August 6, 1919 but grew up in the town
of La Riviere. After joining the Royal Canadian Air Force in October 1940 as
a radio and radar technician, he shipped overseas to England where in 1942
he met and married Eleanor Joan Smith of the RAF. Transferred to India, Wyn
served three years on radar sites around the north of that country and in
Burma. April 1945 saw him return to Canada with his war bride. In 1946 the
couple moved to Vancouver where Wyn worked for the electrical firm of Taylor
& Pearson, then started a 26 year history with B.C.Tel until his retirement
in 1984. As VE7WC, Wyn was active in amateur radio from the age of eighteen
until forced off the air by the infirmities of age. Barbershop music was
another of his passions; in the 1970's he sang in the Victoria Village
Squires chorus and put his mechanical skills to good use building their
stage props. Like his father before him, Wyn took pride in being able to fix
almost anything friends and family could break; he saved his children a
small fortune in auto repairs! Predeceased by his beloved Eleanor in August
1983, he is survived by his eldest son Ken and daughter-in-law Olga,
grandson Eric and granddaughter Arianna, son Barry and daughter Joan. The
family wishes to thank Dr. Philip Kelly, the nurses and staff of The Lodge
at Broadmead and Jean Muir for their devoted care and attention. No funeral
or memorial service will take place by Wyn's request. In lieu of flowers,
please make a donation to the Lodge at Broadmead Foundation, 4579 Chatterton
Way, V8X 4Y7. 289675
