RAOUL LEIF ANDERSON November 9, 1928 - October 16, 2006 Born November 9,
1928, passed October 16, 2006, predeceased in April by his endearing wife of
55 years, Marie Anderson, leaving a LEGACY OF LOVE, daughters Judy
(Richard), Sandy; sons Rick (Darlene), Dan (Maureen); and thirteen loving
grandchildren Caleb, Carl, Emily, Lindsey, Jessica, Caileigh, Sara, Karly,
Corey, Lee, Elise, Mike and Kellie (Nick). Always a forward thinker, Raoul's
first business venture was in the field of Dental Mechanics. He was
successful in establishing Dental Mechanics as a recognized and certified
trade and became the founding member of the profession of denturists. His
out of the box creative thinking and his commitment to customer satisfaction
made him the top producer of dentures and an expert at his craft. He was
highly regarded by others in his field. Raoul was an ambitious and
determined visionary who had the good fortune to find a life partner with
whom to make and pursue dreams. Both were extremely hardworking and while
accomplished in the business community, their proudest achievement was
undeniably that of their family. Together, in 1961, they purchased Newlands
Golf & Country Club and under Raoul's direction, the Club's evolution began.
While Raoul championed the dreams and redevelopment, Marie was influential
in the operations. Her years of experience in nurturing her family carried
over into the business where she garnered trusted working relationships. It
was this trust upon which Newlands was established. Together they were
successful in building a business that was based upon family and which
revolved around life experiences. Other notable business ventures included
the purchase and redevelopment of Guildford Golf Course, Surrey, B.C.;
apartment and rental properties; a road building and construction enterprise
and a soil reclamation business. In recent years he acquired neighbouring
farmland and at 75 years of age was successful in designing and constructing
an executive length golf course. Ever the eternal optimist, Dad enjoyed
life's journey. Each and every one of his days was filled with opportunity
and he lived in anticipation of new challenges. In Dad's world, the sun was
always shining. He was generous in sharing his life experience and his
advice and encouragement were freely forthcoming. He enjoyed being a mentor
to many. He was spirited and fun loving and his final years were enjoyed at
Newlands, working with family and friends to see his vision complete. While
their own personal lifestyle was simple, they were sophisticated in the
creation of SOMETHING SPECIAL. Their inspiration was to create a place for
recreation and entertainment that would benefit the community until the end
of time. Congratulations, Raoul & Marie Anderson, for a job well done. In
their final years, Mom & Dad could often be found riding on the golf course
or dining in the Clubhouse, greeting the public. They were humbled by
compliments and flattered by kindness and at the end of the day, their
message would be one of appreciation. Thank you, Mom & Dad, for a lifetime
of dedication and love. Your values and principles will continue to guide us
and serve as an inspiration always. Your love will remain ... FOREVER IN OUR
HEARTS. Friends, please join us for a "sharing of memories" to honor and
celebrate the lifetime achievements of Raoul Anderson, Thursday, November 9,
2006, 11:00 am in the Conservatory Ballroom at Newlands Golf & Country Club,
21025 48th Avenue, Langley, B.C.

DUKE _ Daryl James After a courageous struggle with pulmonary fibrosis,
Daryl passed away peacefully at his West Vancouver home on October 21, 2006.
Born March 8, 1929 in Vancouver, Daryl's love of British Columbia never
waned even while he wandered the world. The smell of the ocean, the changing
of the tide, but most importantly watching the setting of the sun on British
Columbia's Pacific coast were very much part of his persona, especially when
he was on his Savary Island - a place he came to think of as "home." From
selling jokes to a local radio station at the age of 15, he earnestly set
out to capture his "love with shadows, phantoms, lovely ghosts, and haunting
the by-ways of our hearts" after he obtained a degree in English and
Philosophy from the University of British Columbia. He has worked for the
National Film Board, the CBC, ABC, NBC and CBS, and most of the major
studios in Hollywood. He has also been the recipient of many accolades and
awards - Emmy Award for his direction of "The Day the Lion Died" starring
Hal Holbrook, the National Society of Film Critics Special Award for his
feature film "Payday" starring Rip Torn, a Christopher Award for "I Heard
the Owl Call My Name" starring British actor Tom Courtenay, the Canadian
Film Awards (now called the Genies) for "The Silent Partner" starring
Christopher Plummer, Elliott Gould and Susannah York. Daryl's feature film
"Payday" was also an official entry at the Cannes Film Festival in the
Directors Fortnight Category. He received Emmy and Directors Guild of
America nominations for his work on the mini-series "The Thorn Birds." He
co-founded and launched the independent station CKVU-TV in Vancouver and was
its first President and CEO. He was inducted into the Starwalk and the B.C.
Entertainment Hall of Fame at Vancouver's Orpheum Theatre. He was also the
first recipient of the Outstanding Achievement Award for an Individual given
at the British Columbia Film Industry's annual Leo Awards ceremony. Daryl
was inducted into the Canadian Association of Broadcast Hall of Fame. Simon
Fraser University granted him a Honourary Doctorate of Fine Arts, and he
also received ACTRA's John Drainie Award for distinguished contribution to
broadcasting. "Though the lamps should be lit and fires started I stay
watching the darkness come slowly forward. I think of how few nights of
peace there are. True peace. When the flood tide slides north as it should.
When the eagle sits in his tree. When the heron puts away the torn cloth of
his cries. When night falls and the heart is not heavy." Daryl has lived his
life with enthusiasm, spirit and an intensely enquiring mind. He is survived
by his wife Anne-Marie Dekker, sons Bryan (Margy) and David (Melanie),
stepson Michael Favelle (Carrie) and grandchildren Leah, Nathan, Samantha,
Dakota, Ansel, Owen, Elijah, Noah, and Jakob. A public service will be held
on Tuesday, November 7 at 2pm at Christ Church Cathedral, 690 Burrard
Street, Vancouver, BC. Condolences or well wishes may be posted at
www.darylduke.com . In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Daryl
Duke Screenwriters Award c/o BC Film, 2225 West Broadway, Vancouver, BC V6K

JOHN SINNEMA April 7, 1934 - October 17, 2006 "TO HAVE LIVED WELL" To have
lived well, laughed often and loved much; to have gained the respect of
intelligent men and the love of children; to have filled a niche and
accomplished a task; to have left the world better - whether by an improved
poppy, a perfect poem or a rescued soul; to have appreciated earth's beauty
and not failed to express it; to have looked for the best in others, and to
have given the best of yourself. That is Achievement! from Robert Louis
Stevenson's "Achievement" John leaves an indelible mark on all who knew him
and now lives on in our hearts and memories which gives us the strength to
continue life's journey. Survived by his loving wife, life partner, teacher
and best friend Grace whom he adored, godson Patrick Britton, loving sisters
Fay and Shirley and families, stepmother Jacoba Sinnema, step sister
Margaret and family, cousins and their families in the Netherlands,
brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and their families, a wide network of
friends, co-workers and caring neighbours. He was predeceased by his parents
Klazina and Albert Sinnema. A manager, an inspiration to his co-workers and
colleagues in the creative and challenging construction industry, a mentor
to the new generation of skilled workers, Johns career culminated in
establishing and ownership of Innovative Enterprises Ltd., a General
Contracting Company. His life was marked with high achievement, success
through his radiant energy and joy of work, always giving the best of
himself, respectful of others and dominated by his unique sense of humour. A
'Service of Memories' will be held on Thursday, November 2 at 11:00 am at
