Devonshire, Mark William
"Forever Young"
July 13, 1983-October 22, 2006
It is with great pain and sorrow in our hearts that we announce the tragic
passing of our devoted son, brother, and uncle — Mark Devonshire.
Mark was predeceased by his biological father Keith John Devonshire (May
1985), and Grandparents Hans Christian Olsen (December 1994) and Pearl May
Olsen (August 2001).
Mark is survived by his loving parents, Betty Devonshire and Karl Lundquist;
special sister Heather; sister Kimberlee, sister Kari (Larry) Hunt; nephews
Adam and Ethan; Grandmother Rose Lundquist of North Vancouver, his three
older half brothers, Stephen, Kevin, David and their families in the Comox
Valley. He is also survived by his uncles; Keith Olsen (Barb) of Westbank,
Frank Olsen (Jean) of Salmon Arm, Dick Olsen (Yvonne) of Vernon, Jack Olsen
(Dolores) of Calgary, Don Olsen (Diana) of Vibank, Ted Olsen of Fort St.
John, and his aunts; Karen Ellison (Jim) of Kamloops, Bernice Olsen (Jim) of
Stettler and Irene Boivin-Olsen (Rod) of Calgary. Also sharing our loss are
numerous cousins, extended family and close friends.
Mark was born and raised in Port Hardy. He spent most of his youth
perfecting his skills in soccer, and hockey. However, he loved outdoor
activities such as camping, fishing and hiking. Mark treasured the Okanagan
Valley, and the peaceful Shuswap River. He spent many summer vacations with
his family camping throughout British Columbia, hiking to Cape Scott, and
made countless trips to the family cabin on Victoria Lake.
Mark attended Robert Scott Elementary School, graduated from Port Hardy
Secondary School in 2001, and soon after he was employed at Alpha
Processing, then Western Forest Products. He was currently working at Neucel
Specialty Cellulose while still occasionally working for WFP on his days off
and studying for an apprenticeship at Neucel. Mark was interested in other
careers as well, including wildlife conservation.
Some of his favourite things included his puppy Ammo, his new Ford truck,
annual moose hunting trips with his Dad, uncles & cousins, his Mom’s family
dinners, shopping trips down island, fishing at Victoria Lake and spending
time with his family, including his two nephews Adam & Ethan, whom he adored
and loved. Mark also enjoyed spending time with many of his close friends,
many of them lifelong.
Mark was well known and loved throughout the community and made friends very
easily. He was a hard worker, very giving, compassionate, loyal, kind and
had a great unforgettable smile. Although we miss him everyday, he will
remain forever in our hearts and in our many cherished memories.
A Celebration of Life for Mark will be held Friday, November 10th, 2006 in
the Port Hardy Civic Centre at 2pm. Everyone welcome.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the British Columbia
Wildlife Federation.

Logan, Shirley
It is with great sadness and sorow that we announce the unexpected passing
of our beloved mom, wife, aunt, sister and nana.
Shirley Louise Logan left our lives on October 2, 2006.
Shirly (mom) will be remembered by her husband, soul mate and the love of
her life for 44 years, James: her daughter, her greatest follower, Boni
(Chris) Sharpe, her son and next favorite man in her life, Stephen.
Shirley also leaves behind the six luckiest grandchildren in the world. Her
first grandson, Tyler, brother Trevor, and little brother Jacob.
Nana’s punkin Kendra, her hunny bun, Kerrigan (sissy), and her youngest
grandson Koen. Shirley is also survived by her sister Myrna, sister Lavona
(Betty), sister Irene, and brother George, along with many more family
members and friends who will deeply miss her.
Shirley first devoted her life to her family and to the many friends that
meant so much to her. She loved to help where help was needed! If you were
to sum up in one word what Shirley, my mom was, it would have to be
compassionate. Ask around and everyone knew who she was. Nana Spice, Nana
Logan, Nana Shirley, she was everyone’s Nana. My mom loved camping with my
dad, she loved hunting, and she loved life. She truly leaves a big whole in
many hearts.
“When we have done all the work we were sent to earth to do, we are allowed
to shed our body, which imprisons our soul like a cocoon encloses the future
butterfly and when the time is right, we can let go of it and we will be
free of pain, free of fears and worries, free as a very beautiful butterfly
returning home to God.”
quoted by Elisabeth Kubler-Ross.
We miss you already…and we truly were blessed by having you in our lives.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the COPS for Cancer 2007 at
Sunset School Office or the RCMP office in Port McNeill.

Halliday, Alan R.
Alan R. Halliday
January 31, 1927-October 2, 2006
With great sadness we announce that on Oct. 2, 2006, Alan R. Halliday passed
away peacefully in his sleep, at home.
Predeceased by his parents Reg & Lily, sisters Bea & Elizabeth, brother Jim
and daughter Ann Louise.
Alan is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Caroline (McLeod), his
children Randy (Julia), Judy, Frances Gorsline (Barry), Michael (Wendi),
Mary Young (Paul), Jennifer (Wayne) & Lisa (Richard). Also grandchildren
Lucia, Adrian, Amberli, Yaro, Shane, Angus, Richard, Julian & Arlen. Also
his brother Gordon and sister Mary (Ken) as well as many nieces, nephews &
cousins too numerous to mention.
Alan was born January 31, 1927 in Alert Bay, BC, one of the 3rd generation
of Hallidays to be raised in Kingcome Inlet. A resourceful and skilled man,
he turned his hand to many successful endeavors, including beef cattle
farming, hand logging, raising 8 children, contracting gravel trucks to the
local logging camp, transporting freight by boat, as well as being the local
postmaster and fire warden. Creating perfect pastry and prized pea soup were
a couple of his lesser known talents.
Alan reluctantly left the Kingcome Valley he loved so much and retired to
Storries Beach, Campbell River, BC in 1986. Always with a sparkle in his
eye, a story to tell, a keen sense of humor and a loyal optimistic fan of
the Canucks, he left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Cremation has taken place, at his request. A memorial celebration of Alan’s
life will be held Oct. 21, 2006 at 2:00pm at the Merville Hall, 1/2
kilometer north of Merville Store, on Old Island Highway (19A). Please bring
any remembrances and favorite stories to share. Refreshments will be
available. Arrangements entrusted to Island Funeral Service, Campbell River,
BC. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to charity of your choice.
God saw you getting tired
When your canes could no longer help thee.
So He put his arms around you and whispered, “Come to me.”
You didn’t deserve what you went through, so he took you home to rest.
Oh, God’s garden must be beautiful,
for He takes only the best.
